Growing tobacco and mapacho is highly illegal in Australia and is the same as growing cannabis.

    However people do grow it.

Importing tobacco is fine you will just have to pay a tax.

    See https://www.ato.gov.au/businesses-and-organisations/gst-excise-and-indirect-taxes/tobacco-and-excise/excise-duty-rates-for-tobacco

Holy f@#k I thought NZ was draconian but you guys in Aus really do have it rough. Tobacco is considered a weed here in NZ, legal to grow, harvest and consume as much as one desires. But if one were to sell it one must pay tax. I always figured it was same in Aus, but Ishmael Fleishman's link proves otherwise.

  2. I sent some from NZ to Aus, clean San Pedro seeds labelled with botanical name.

Aus customs sent them back with a note saying 'do not send prohibited import'.

Really nice of them to return them rather than destroy, I appreciated that :)

Can not remember which state it was sorry.

I assumed they sent them back for being seeds, rather than entheogens, seems it was more a quarantine issue rather than a drug issue as I doubt they would have returned something they considered drugs.

Many plants have alternative botanical names and I often find it helpful to label plants with their less common botanical names.

Same for common names, do some research on google and have your supplier use a less common name for these type of species.

  3. Nice formula, awful name. As someone who  is allergic to alcohol it is good to see products like this available but FFS the name is just begging for trouble. Its a herbal supplement, not a psychedelic.

Of alcohol alternatives I have so far tried, some work well as a replacement for the first 2 drinks/first 2 hours. After that its hard to stay on an enjoyable level to socialize or feel comfortable with the drunks. So great for an alcohol alternative at a cafe, dinner or short outdoor event but not powerful enough for bars, pubs, nightclubs or big parties. At least after the first couple of  hours.

Still nice to see new products in this field, i dream of the day when venues have equal number of alcohol alternatives as they do alcohol brands and varieties.

  4. "You can do an acetone test to check that your kava is a noble variety not a tudei, mix about 10g of powder with 30ml of acetone. Good noble will make the solution turn yellow, whereas tudei will be a much redder colour. "

Thanks for the tip. Don't suppose you know a test for Piper auritum ? I bought some kava plants that I am suspicious may be P. auritum.

I believe p.  auritum leaves smell of saffrole when crushed however I have no sense of smell.

100g of kava is quite a lot, especially if that's your daily routine!

High stress lifestyle. I love my kava and like to get well soothed once I get got the chores out the way.

But yeah 25g is a god starting point for good Vanuatu kava. For anti-anxiety fx. Have consumed 150g (having prepared some for a friend who did not make it so drank there's too) without nausea or other side effects. Where with lower grade commercial Fiji kava, a mild nausea begins at doses over 50g, especially until a meal is consumed. The last Tongan kava I tried was bad with strong nausea at 50g. Smelt very stale. Have had good Tongan a decade or so back though. Some Fiji can be cut with flour so that could have been a factor there. Be good to have a test for this. I am yet to try Fiji kava that is as clean as the Vanuatu but there kava should in theory be good if you can get it fresh enough / early enough in the supply chain. Good Fiji waka can drink 100g without side effects.

  6. Mulungu (Erythruna mulungu) can turn off anxiety almost instantly. Start low 1-2g to test strength of brew as potency varies exceptionally. Have had batches where up to 25g used for nothing more than an anti-anxiety effect, while have had batch where 10g brew resulted in tunnel vision and weird dissociative effect, so intense the day had to be surrendered to the experiment. Happened to 2 of us so not just me. Felt like a cross between DXM and a migraine headache without the pain.  Very strange and unexpected effect.

Vanuatu kava is my daily relaxer. 100g mix of Palarasul and Bir kar strains @ 4pm on empty stomach. Use a stick blender to thrash it in luke warm water and strain through tea towel and nylon cloth. For those prone to paranoia or anxiety from weed this is the time to blaze it if ya got it. The kava will eliminate that issue for you.

Remember anxiety is anticipating the future while depression is reminiscing the past, so connect with the present can help. Kava is great here. Mix your brew and then drink it in a nice spot as close to nature as you can get and try to stay in the moment and connect with the now.

  7. "In my research I have noted 1.5g dry leaf twice daily for three weeks produced no obvious withdrawal effects upon abstinence. "

That's a fairly low dose, but your still playing with fire using for more than 72 hours without a 7 day break. That is the only way to use long-term without physical dependence developing.

Just because you can use for a period and stop once does not mean it will be like that again. The body memory is now there. This is purely from a dependence point of view.

Besides dependence, the psychological aspect must also be considered. The compulsion to use can become very strong, with depression and lethargy becoming the norm for days when you do not use.

Very difficult to taper due to its 4-5hr effects window.

That being said its a wonderful medicinal herb with many amazing benefits. But be warned it should be treated with the respect you would give any other powerful painkiller or antidepressant.

My advise, take a break now for a month but keep some in the medicine chest for when you really need it.

Save it for when you have Covid, cold or flu, when you need a special boost for a special occasion, an alternative to alcohol perhaps for special events, when you are injured and in pain or when you need that little bit more to complete that special project.

  8. ^Sativa ash as in C. sativa and incense ash as in frankincense resin ash right?

Aside from the action of ash itself inside the snuff, are you choosing the various ash of certain plants with certain properties you want in the blend or is it more a matter of needing to add non-toxic ash and just using whatever ash is on hand? Ie: from the cone you just smoked and the incense you used to cover the smell?

  9. This even happens here in NZ in Summer, to potted ones. Cut them back hard, you can really hack Sinicuichi back to almost nothing. Put them in the shade, make a shade-house or put under trees. You need to water the potted ones daily in Summer if out in the sun. Even then they wilt. It better to get them in the ground so they can spread roots. They do really well on the edge of bush, with a larger canopy over head, they fill in nicely underneath and don't die back so much in Winter, you can trim like a hedge to keep nice.

  10. Microdosing is best with non-toxic entheogens such as mushrooms and cacti. Microdosing with more toxic plants like nutmeg and the tropane bearing species may result in a build up of toxins in your body. This could result in the opposite of microdosings goals of increasing focus, creativity and mindfuelness, where instead the users mind comes somewhat unstuck or psychotic. In theory the only safe way to use these plants is in a micro-dose, however even a micro dose may be dangerous if used regularly. The tribes that use tropane bearing species traditionally claim regular use may result in insanity. I would tread extremely carefully, if at all.

One prospect I find very interesting is the the potential of microdosing all the very mild entheogenic plants. Plants like Blue Lotus,  (Acours calamus), (Targetes lucidia), various galangal, gingers and many others. these plants are legal, very mild, fairly safe and non-toxic. In fact the effect of many of these species is very similar to a threshold psychedelic experience, which is exactly what microdosing is aiming for. Using these species at a slightly less than regular dose every 4th day may offer many similar benefits as microdosing, especially if combined with things like mindfuelness, meditation etc.

  11. Its endangered in its natural habitat... But surely cultivation is a good thing.

I smoked an extract PAH were selling back in the day, worst tasting smoke I have ever had with zero effect. I had wrongly assumed it was the active ingredient in the original Spice, before it was known to be synthetic. The herb itself was more interesting. Foul taste, but 15g as a tea gave a unique effect, a distinct head-change, not unlike (but not the same as) very mild weed or even kava. Fresh herb would be the way to go with this one to go I reckon. Be good to get viable seeds. I have read that much of the dried herb on the market is in fact a related species.

  12. ^Well lets just hope that by the time the parade of the horribles start trying to prohibit obscure plants that the country has moved so far in the opposite direction to prohibition that its not even an issue worth considering anymore. Besides, I heard the shop linked to above^ has sold thousands of those clones over the last 14 years,  you,d be surprised how many hippies now days have one growing in their lounge, I think its safe to say this Sage is well enough established in NZ now that it will always be available to those that seek it.

  13. The more I think about it... my section is full of wild lettuce, I bought seed and planted but now it just covers all spare waste land, where I pull out the other weeds and just let the lettuce go. Anyway, the next most prolific weed is black nightshade. Its prolific among the wild lettuce patch. Almost like the two are companion plants, even with weeding the odd nightshade hides and survives among the wild lettuce. One needs to be careful to pilfer out any nightshade plants from his wild lettuce harvest if pulling the whole plants, they can twist and stick to each other. I would imagine contamination of commercial wild lettuce extracts back in the 18 and early 1900's with nightshade's would certainly have been possible.

  14. Bleed the latex into a sharp edges tsp. Wait until they are just going to flower but not yet seed. On a nice sunny day, mid morning, remove all leaves (to dry elsewhere and cut top off) wait an hour then use tsp to scrape up latex. Some days it flows better than others but its worth collecting, do it a few days in a row, just chop more off until you have collected a nice little ball. Far better materiel than either the tincture or water extraction produce. Far superior to any commercial products I have tried. Can be used like opium once dry, its milder but a very nice effect and nice taste. Very pleasant. The key is to vape it, not burn it. Chase the dragon or heat it over a lamp inside glass bowl with a long bamboo stem attached.

Rätsch suggests a dose of 28g leaves brewed as a tea. I have some there, must try. A water extract on the stems is active smoked but very mild. But the latex is quite exquisite.

The Hyoscyamine - The old (1800's) literature makes the claim, in the roots, but perhaps some nightshades had infiltrated their crop? Are there recent studies confirming it in the leaves or latex? The Hopi used it as a dream enhancer, and datura and Brugmansia certainly do enhance dreams. But the effect of the Lettuce is more of a sedative than a deliriant . I guess like passion flower, siberian motherwort and the waterlilly's / lotuses  a kind of psychic-sedative.

  15. Hirsuta is closest to speciosa, a 25g dose is similar to about 5g - 7g speciosa, certainly active and worth experimenting with but something is missing. Extracts would be the go, more than 25g is hard to drink, even 25g has made me spew once or twice, from drinking it too fast, slow is the go. It tastes like a thick dirty coffee, not too bad at all as far as strong herbal brews go. Very nice synergy with a couple of beers strangely, as speciosa worked well as an alcohol repellent for me. Seems a good synergy with all the usual suspects, smoke etc too. Its a lot less bitter than speciosa, easier to drink but suggesting less alkaloids are present.

Javanica is more stimulating with less warm fuzzies. Hirsutra was the more rewarding for me.

  16. The major problem with the bill is that any product is legal to market if prooven safe at a cost of approx $3,000000.

This prohibitive testing expense means ony products with a lucrative market will be approved, such as potent and addictive research chemicals.

No company is going to invest 3 million into legalizing Calea or Hemia or Cancer bush or Inebriating mint. The market is not there to recoup the investment.

So we loose all these SAFE herbs that have been used safely for thousands of years and in their place get a monoply marketing a line of patentable research chemicals.

This is so shit. Why not just place anything that has always been legal, has been in the food chain for thousands of years and has ever caused harm automatically in the approved catergory. It would be easy enough to remove any individual herb that is causing problems, say like Yohimbe and scedule it as a prescription medicine or something like Datura as a poison. Herbs are not like research chemicals that can be tweaked to get around laws.

To make matters worse the Government are now watching how the legal synthetic cannabinoid market plays out as a model for natural cannabis. So all the health problems caused by these untested research chemicals will be considered to be the same for natural weed and used as reason not to legalize.

Watch out aussies, your herbs are next!

You guys need to do something to protect your herbs. But Im not sure what? Does anyone have any ideas? What about for NZ? Or is it too late for us?

How much would it cost to take it to the high court if one were to import something like Calea seeds to deliberatly be seized, then take it to the high court? 100K?

  17. The new psyhoactive substances bill which legalizes and regulates synthetic cannabinoids in New Zealand, but bans all psychoactive substances unless lisenced has resulted in the first seizure of imported calea zacatechichi seeds as a psychoactive substance under the bill by NZ customs. Note Calea is a basic import with MAF.

How a non-psychoactive seed thats needs to be planted, cultivated, harvested, dried, processed to then possibly have a mild psychoactive effect can be classified as a psychoactive substance makes no sence.

If this is logic correct, then all plants are now illegal as all plants are psychoactive substances. This bill also technically bans yoga and meditation equipment as devices capable of inducing a psychoactive effect.

Herbal remedies are exempt from the bill. Calea is also employed by the Chontal people as a herbal remedy against gastrointestinal disorders, and is used as an appetizer, cathartic, anti-dysentery remedy, and as a fever-reducing agent.

At this stage it appears the difference between herbal remedy and psychoactive substance is decided by the race of the people who traditionally used the remedy. Apparently Mexican medicine is not accepted as part of the recognized pharmocopedia. That is racism and in my opinion a breach of human rights..

  18. I never thought much of dried wild lettuce leaves, but this year I have so much coming up in the garden that I have been experimenting with the fresh herb.

I have been cutting the roots off and boiling up the whole fresh plant, both stem and leaves, to make a strong tea. I add a little grapefruit juice to the boiling water, simmer for 20mins, strain and drink. Tastes similar to poppy tea and has a sedative effect as good as Zopiclone for me. A fantastic sleep and waking up feeling refreshed.

This must be a really high dose, especially compared to what people are generally consuming in tea, smokes and capsules. But its quite drinkable (I enjoy herbal brews) and no negative side effects have been noted, quite the opposite, it feels really healthy. I should really weigh it but been a busy few weeks.

I would be interested to try it in a juicer, hence avoiding heat which could lower potency.

  19. ESR testing of Craze and Detonate in NZ tested positive for amphetamines.

This looks to me like DMAA, where it was claimed to exist in Geranium oil. This bunch of PEAs are claimed to exist in Drenbonium flowers.

But the source is a chinese research chemical supplier. Selling this chemical (or combination of chemicals) as Drenbonium extract.

I believe DMAA has now been shown not to exist in nature. So Drenbonium is the replacement. Go figure.

  20. Very easy to grow people. I sprinkled some seed from the local indian grocer around the garden, then forgot about it. Well my garden filled up with these strange podded plants, I had to do an online search to identify them.

Anyway, one pod has lots of seeds, so a good yeild and nice to know I know have fresh, organic seed for max potency.

For those using seed instead of oil, you need to chew the seed to release the oil. Taste is slightly nauseating but not too bad. A couple of scooped tsp of seeds seems to do the trick, I believe the seed is approx 50% oil.

  21. A large pinch was quidded for 20mins. Half an hr later 3 cones were smoked in a waterpipe. This resulted in an altered headspace. Another 1/2 hr later 2 cones of weed are smoked. The effect of the weed is altered.

A few days later a brew is made using 3 gram. This hits with a strong wave. A little dizzy and nauseas. Some weed kills nausea. Certainly active but hard to explain.

A few days later a brew is made using 5 gram. More water is used to weaken taste and brew is drunk slowly. This works to avoid nausea. Effects feel similar to Kratom for want of a better description. I feel stimulated and motivated, similar to Kratom rather than like say a straight stimulant like caffeine or ephedra. My vision of the sky is enhanced without hallucinations. Some mild euphoria. Body numbness is very noticable but its hard to say if this is due to MU activity or not at this dosage, although some itching on the nose is a positive sign.

    Will keep experimenting.

  22. Thought this one may be of interest to some of you Aussies ;)

I have started experimenting with this tree. I have so far tried a quid, smoked some cones and brewed a tea. It is certainly active but I am yet to find words to explain the effect, Its a stimulant, anti-inflamitory and inebrient.

I will start experimenting with higher dosage and report back.

Here is my suppliers description of Combretum.

Sakae Naa (Combretum quadrangulare) is a small tree of the family Combretaceae which grows up to 10m high. The tree grows along the rivers, or in open and wet places in southeast Asia.

Combretum leaf is smoked or chewed as a Kratom substitute by the people of South Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, since Kratom use is now prohibited there.

It is said that the Combretum quadrangulare contains many precious and rare substances. In some parts of the world it is used as a traditional herbal remedy to help cure sexual diseases or to kill parasitic worms in the human body, and some indigenous people of southeast Asia believe the Combretum tree has the powers of white magic.

You rarely find Combretum leaf at the markets as it is mostly only used locally. There are not many suppliers in the world who are offering Combretum leaf, not even in origin countries, since farmers tend to pick it for themselves.
