Acacia ID? Possibly Longifolia / Obtusifolia?
Strontium Dawg replied to squidgygoanna's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
If it's flowering now it's not obtusifolia, more likely to be a.longifolia. Could be something else but longifolia is a good guess, it should be starting to flower right about now, at least they are in my area. -
You can get them from Neil at the hippyseedcompany.

If you've got any tomato plants, crush up some leaves in hot water and spray em with the water, aphids hate it.

Hey mate, I have some unrooted dragon fruit cuttings if you want one, pretty sure they'd survive postage - they are kind of epiphytic anyway. Pm me if you want one.

No probs.

Too late to repot trichs?
Strontium Dawg replied to theuserformallyknownasd00d's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I've been potting ups cuts to get the roots ready for in ground planting come spring. I figure if we get extended bad weather I can keep them under cover. -
The peach habs are pretty rare, and they are sooo hot!
-
Nagabon are one of my favourites, heavy fruiting plants, the most amazing smell when you cut open a pod, and absolutely brain meltingly hot!

Bunnings tricho ID help please?
Strontium Dawg posted a question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Picked up these two little fellows at bunnings - first one labelled as "peruvian torch" - supplier is hamiltons. It doesnt look particularly like a peruvianus to me, and I mistrust their labelling a bit as I bought another one labelled the same which I am pretty sure is a terscheckii... Any guesses? I know it's hard to say based on a juvenile form... Pach? Scop? Peruvianus? Something else? From the top. Second one looks much more like a peruvianus to me, unlabelled, supplier is collectors corner (paradisia). Smurf blue colour and golden spines. Beautiful cactus whatever it is anyway. If anyone else thinks it is very likely a peruvianus, I might pick up another one. There was a bigger one, but it had a few wounds and I suspect had beginnings of rot... Peruvianus? From the top. Thanks for your opinions. -
Bunnings tricho ID help please?
Strontium Dawg replied to Strontium Dawg's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
No problem. I'm getting better at IDing random cacti I see around. I came across what I first thought was a big scopulicola in someone's front yard but only got a closer look and I've now called it for a stenocereus marginata, so I'll not bother knocking and asking for a cutting. -

Worried about a cutting - beginnings of black spot?
Strontium Dawg posted a topic in Cacti & Succulents
Hi, I've been waiting for a cut of Eileen to take root and decided to check it today. It was pretty well calloused and I have tried to keep it dry in it's new pot, but during the last few weeks, we have had a lot of rain and inevitably it managed to get more water than I would have liked. I have taken it out of the soil to air for a while, does this dark spot look nasty to anyone else though? -
I saw a cactus in bunnings today from CC and it was very much looking like it had rot already, but they do water the living daylights out of their cacti there...

Strontium Dawg replied to Strontium Dawg's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
EG, I should have been more specific - here is a photo of the one I bought which was labelled exactly the same "peruvian torch" but I suspect is terscheckii... -

There were some Mrytillocactus Geometrizans and they looked nothing like either of these. -
Good to know, thanks HelloNasty. I now have them covered in white plastic over the seed tray hood and they are under a table in my pergola, so they get light, but not direct exposure. How much and when should I start giving them a bit more sun and air?
-
Hi, have my babies had too much sunlight? They are going red... They arent getting any direct sun exposure, and it's been pretty bleak weather here for the last week anyway, but I'd like your advice please. I think theyre a bit like me, 15 minutes of sun and they go pink!
-
Thanks for the advice. I'll get them somewhere even shadier.
