Sweet, thanks for the update.

Was there any updates on this? I ordered through the site, sent a request but no response yet...

Thanks Worowa!

Did you see this one? http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6252361#6252361
He uses a fogger, a heater and an airstone to get good amounts of humidity, and it keeps the water fresh. I reckon that would be more than sufficient and really easy to build.

Bloody good question, I wandered that myself. I agree that it will most probably still be considered 'old' as well...
-
If you take have a good fruiting clone and then take prints from that, you would still have genetic variation as the spores are a mix of genetics. You would need to either need to use the exact same piece of myc from the isolate on agar, or you would need to clone from the fruit body but once you use spores, it's all a crap shoot as to what kind of genetics you will get.
Exactly...

Love to grab at least 100 as well worowa. Probably prefer T3's but either would be fine.
-
Yup, I'm with ya there!
You will still grow the same species, but you will just need to isolate to get a good fruiting culture.

Interesting! Can't wait to watch this, thanks heaps for posting the info.
Funnily enough they don't report about the environmental problems associated with overharvesting of these precious little fungi.

This one looks ok for the price - http://www.pressurecooker.com.au/go-72/Pressure_Cookers/HAWKINS_Big_Boy_-_22L_aluminium_pressure_cooker

If you can wait 7 or so months they will be fruiting in Oz and and if I find any specimens I could get you a print, but it would be easier, faster and guarunteed clean if you got it from sporewoks.

South Australia has some luminencent mushrooms and I remember seeing their prints being sold as novelty mushrooms.
They grow in the southern states of Australia assumedly, not just SA - Sporeworks stocks a WA strain - http://sporeworks.com/Omphalotus-nidiformis-Ghost-Fungus-Culture-Syringe.html

Hi , does anyone use Poly-propylene 5 containers for grain spawn for edibles? I want to save some money buy using these instead of glass jars , a tyvek filter patch in the lid i read can be glued with hot glue gun , would hot glue melt in the pc? Also what size? The closest to 1000ml i can find is 850ml is that size okay? cheers
I picked up some 'multix screwtop' containers today from the food wrap section of the supermarket, they have screw top lids and come in either 450ml or 750ml sizes - about $4 for a pack of 4.
They should work out ok and are pretty cheap all things considered.
It might be fine and a lot cheaper to use chinese take-away containers, but they don't seal very well.

and most important of all! give cultures away to people so if you lose it your friends can give it back. In the last few years there has been a huge increase in the number of cultures available in Australia, only 5 or so years ago it was hard to get a handful of the common edibles. I would guess there would be 35ish individual species doing the rounds at the moment.
Thats great advice..
I have just found out that possibly my whole spore collection which was stored in a storage unit, in a small wooden box, double bagged may be un-viable. So far 4 different individual prints have been useless.
I have used a perfectly healthy print after 3 years storage in a mook so I wasn't expecting this - it feels like I have I have done them a dis-service...
So I'd like to add, that you should keep your prints in the fridge.

You've successfully given me itchy feet. Nice one, Hyphal.
Great news - book that ticket

Goes to show you can find cacti enthusiasts gardens from sea-level to the Himalaya's. Beautiful set-up and specimens.
What's the thickly ribbed, large diameter, columnar cactus in the same shot with the owner?
Think I saw one very similar in someones front yard in SA and couldn't identify it?
Great pics, must have been a great trip.
Thanks for the kind words! Sorry I can't answer as I don't know much about cacti..

holy batman thats a lot of cacti
are these for sale? Any idea what sort of prices things were bring sold for?
I dont know how she works it, but Im sure you could find out on their website.

Hey all just wanted to share some pics of an amazing cactus garden we visited on our recent trip through Asia.
It's called 'PINEVIEW Nursery' (LINK) and is located in a town called Kalimpong which is in the hills in the north east of India, not far from the famous town of Darjeeling. It has some spectacular views of the Himalayas off in the distance and does some great food, and you can even stay there for peanuts.
I snapped off some pics while we were there thinking of you guys, and there are also heaps more on their site. Enjoy!
Firstly here is the owner - very lovely lady as you can imagine (just unfortunate that it looks like she's having a scratch)
One of about 7 or 8 (from memory?) greenhouses -
She called these 'mother in law's cushion'! -
And the rest of the random shots we took -
Grafting stock?
Lophs!
Flowers -
Some grafted lophs -
More grafting -
Other random cacti -
A friendly staff member -
Her Kitchen!! Some great curries coming out of here....
The view from the greenhouses (too hazy to see the himalayas that day) -
And we found this growing from the road on the walk home -

Nice fruits!

Personally I have got healthy liquid cultures from numerous wild prints... Things have to remain as clean as possible, but sterile is not a necessity - don't be scared to try, nothing to lose but one liquid culture and a jar of grain.
Nice pictures Shruman!

Sick pics!

P. coprophilla grows from kangaroo dung and may be slightly active but is not worth targeting due to tiny yield and rarity, although this grows in the Perth region.
Another species of interest is Gymnopilus purpuratus that also grows in the Perth region.
If you can get any information on the blue stainer from Toodyay or even a picture it would be highly appreciated!

It just helps add bulk easily - the more substrate you have, the more fruits you get. But of course, if you have access to bulk horse poo (which can be used on its own no worries) then go for it. It can just be a pain to collect lots and break it up to the righ consistency, so adding some coir give more substrate easily and hassle free.
PP5 containers for grain spawn?
in Mycology
Posted
Well, they work! Grain spawn PC'd for 1 hour in a PP5 chinese take-away container, with polyfill filter and innoculation hole covered with electrical tape. Innoculated with Oyster mushroom liquid culture 18/10, fully colonised 14 days (cool temps to blame for slow colonisation).
They don't seal completely, so I would wrap some tape (maybe micropore?) around the edge before PCing next time. I think I got lucky this time with no contams, there is mycelium creeping out through the edges where the lid doesn't seal.
