  1. Temperature, gas exchange and moisture are the three most important factors. If they are too cold they take forever to colonise, temperature makes a massive difference to growth rate.

    Side effects

Could you enlighten me to the reason you consumed unidentified mushrooms that made you pass out and fall into a fever? I don't think you should give out such dangerous and stupid advice.

    Psychedelics and Psychosis?

This is still a LARGE dose, so what do they expect....? You should start low and work up as you get comfortable with the feeling. If I took an eighth for my first experience I reckon I would most likely feel as if I lost my mind and it would probably take a while to recover from such en experience.

    Panaeolus subbalteatus discussion & ID

I am pretty sure I found Subbs once in my vegie patch, under some lettuce.... They printed JET black on a white china plate, but alas, I never kept the print nor did I keep the specimens, so we'll never know. I also never took a photo of the print unfortunately.

    Psychedelics and Psychosis?

I personally have never met anyone who has had 'psychedelic psychosis' from one single psychedelic experience, but I have heard many rumours of friends that have had friends who knew a boyfriends best mate's cousin who had gone permanently crazy from 'trippin on shrooms'... I have however seen first hand that psychedelic abuse (like abuse of any psychotropic substance) lead to some issues where people become just a bit too 'far out' in their everyday lives and suffer from what I would consider a form of psychedelic a psychosis. My advice is use not abuse. If you do happen to have a history of mental disorders or substance abuse in your family, then perhaps you should look at that as a potential problem for yourself and blow caution to the wind and steer clear of all substances, both naturally occurring AND made made, altogether.

    Mycelium issue... Help?

Gas exchange is critically important. If your cakes can't breathe a tiny bit (they don't actually need fresh air exchanges, but they definitely need gas exchange), then they will stall, often stopping completely. Failing that, I would agree that it could also be moisture content, but I if the top colonised ok then its probably more likely that they are starving for air. Poke some holes in the foil tops with a syringe (dont worry about contams at this point - your dry verm layer will act as a filter) and turn the cakes upside down, then take all the blankets off them and hope for the best.

    Side effects

Initial side effects can include stomach cramps and generally feeling a bit sick as you try to digest them. This can be helped by drinking ginger and peppermint tea with a tiny bit of honey. Laughing until your mouth hurts from smiling is also common. Long term side effects include understandings of the rich tapestry of the interconnectedness of energies and personal realisations of what are the best ways to direct these energies in your own life and to help those around you. (These are obviously some of the POSITIVE side effects). Seriously though, there are some negative side effects of abuse of this substance (as with the abuse of ANY susbtance), though they are not usually witnessed in a physical sense. The drug itself has a very low toxicity in the body and is generally considered physically safe. The negative side effects are usually in more of an emotional form, where one can start feeling detached from the reality around you. A theory of mine is that this is due to one becoming TOO aware of the 'rich tapestry of interconnectedness' and realising just how much the the structure of the human species is desecrating it, naturally making one to want to remove themselves from that structure altogether (the profit driven corporate environment etc.). The problem here is that there is no other structure! Things are how they are and we simply have to accept it, which can be tough and seem hypocritical. Like all substances, moderation to experimentation is the key! Don't be go overboard and don't dose too often, they are not a toy. Follow the rules for psychedelics and use only in a safe and comfortable setting, with people your are comfortable with, and only when you are feeling emotionally stable and happy. Used sensibly, psilocybin and the sacred mushrooms are a powerfully beneficial and very safe medicine to be treated with the utmost respect. But MOST importantly, they should be enjoyed with a laugh and a smile...

    WA Season

I wouldnt be surprised actually! This weather has been very strange, might be enough to pop a couple up for sure - especially with the rain coming at the end of this week as well... If anyone has the time for a hunt PLEASE post back with the results!

    The mighty West Aussie Outback

PM me Velvet and I'll let you know if you are close... I dont claim to have found this either by the way, just wanted to make everyone drool over the pics - I was told about the spot by someone else who had only stumbled over it 2 days beforehand, and I really wanted to go and get some shots. I have heard rumors of it existing before though, by a member here. I have a strong feeling its the same place he was talking about...

    The mighty West Aussie Outback

It looks like its been there for a while already.... I'm sure it will survive another year. If not, its not meant to be. And anyway, there's a lot of cactus around the traps for when the time is right....

It could be a sign, except I am going to India for a year in November so they wouldn't be too happy at my place. I just dont get too excited about cacti unfortunately, perhaps a nice brew would be the catalyst for my interest... Something to look forward to when I get back!

I am not a cacti enthusiast either, but Im sure they are pedro. They were left to do their thing for future adventurers to 'trip' across..

    WA Season

All over now, has been for a while. Depending on the weather the season can end anytime, basically when the rains stop so do the mushrooms. I've seen them end of August, start of September before.

That sucks. Maybe he should have listened to the store keepers advice...

    Peat as substrate

With those home grow boxes, the peat is in a seperate bag, not mixed in the substrate - and is used as a casing layer. Peat isn't used IN the substrate, though I'm sure a little wouldn't hurt at all, there just wouldn't be a lot of reason to.

Agreed... Brown rice, from Coles, ground to a flour is fine.

    glow in the dark shroom

There are glowing Mycena sp., probably something very similar to what you posted in that other thread MORG. I think they are also found in QLD and other tropical areas, which matches the climate and location savanna's mushrooms were found in.

    Demineralized water

Tap water is fine, but I've heard clean river water or fish tank water is supposed to be pretty effective for substrates...
