I'm a long way from blooms but I've got some fuzz starting on a monstrose nonPC pachanoi. If you have blooms still going by then I'll shoot you some pollen.

I feed my peppers every week. One week some bone meal and the next a foliar feed with Epsom salt 2 tbs per gallon. The extra calcium and magnesium really does em good.

Hookahhead this is the 'KK242' from zircon6 clearly not a Cuzco. Gets very glaucus in the shade, I really like the spine color on this one. Got this off a private collector, as I don't really care for the BlanketMan.
-
@ hookahhead- that looks similar to what zircon6 sells as "kk242" on ebay. I received a cutting from a private collector last year and if looks very similar to this. Also as AZS said it does slightly resemble SS01 tho my SS01 is far more glaucus. I don't believe it to be cuzcoensis. I'll post some pics once I can get a spare bit of time and daylight

Damn Michael hope I get as much variation outta mine as these pics show. Just curious what size pot are those planted in? Bet it's heavy as fuck to lug around....

Trichocereus youguesswhatitisensis.....
EthnoGuy85 replied to EthnoGuy85's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Nailed it Michael. T. Glaucus from SS I was expecting the peruvianoid type. I've grown vey find of it. It was a very ugly center cut when I received it and I was not impressed. On a side note I'd be more than happy to share a cut with you towards the end of the season. If you'd be interested that is . -
Trichocereus youguesswhatitisensis.....
EthnoGuy85 posted a question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Ordered this some 2yrs ago from a reputable source as a _______. When I got it, it was not at all what I expected. Have a guess eh? I'll reveal who and what it is after I've heard what it may be. -
Philo- these show a rib shifting/semi monstrose nature around every 12-18ins/30-45cm at least in my experience. Doublebenno-these are from Altman Plants in California,USA and are clones off one plant likely grown years ago from KK seed stock. Been told it looks like KK339 Nice score magical9 this is one of my favorites. First pic shows the tip getting its jelly bean on. It gets really weird looking when it starts goin monstery.

Cuttings turning white at the tip and more
EthnoGuy85 replied to magical9's topic in Cacti & Succulents
My cuts usually sit on a shelf upright on my porch. Which gets bright filtered light all day and full sun in the early morning. Never had a problem with them there even when we have at or below freezing temps -

Problems with Seedlings Falling Over
EthnoGuy85 replied to doxneed2c-me's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I usually let em fall until I repot then I bury a bit deeper and add some grit/gravel as a topdress. I sometimes get addition roots up the seedlings as a bonus -
Color is not really gonna have any effect. The landscape fabric is gonna be more like a 70-75% since the fabric is so tight knit compared to the shade cloth's more open weave Lighter color shade fabric tends to last longer as it reflects some of the uv while the black tends to degrade the fastest

Awesome I have about 10 viridis leaves that I'm propagating. I only left three intact the others I made 8-12 snaps along the main leaf vein. How warm is too warm they've been inside at around 27C over a heat mat but it's much warmer outside. I am tempted to move them but i don't want to fry them either. So far they've all got some roots going but no sprouts. It's been around 4-6 weeks since they went in the propagation box

I add a small amount of dolomitic lime to my mix before potting and then early in the growing season every year I add about a one third/half cup per 8 inches of pot size. I also cannot plant in ground but I use pea gravel as a mulch and use terracotta pots and it seems to help keep the roots a bit cool.

Fine pine bark or other conifer bark isn't the problem, as these contain oils/sap that prevent them from breaking down quickly. Tho they do tend to lower the soil ph a bit. But this can be remedied by adding a bit of lime when mixing the soil and through annual applications. The problem is larger bark pieces and wood. The would breaks down rapidly and robs nitrogen from the soil to decompose. Also it heats the soil up as it decomposing which in areas with high heat is a problem as Tricho's prefer a cool rootzone. The larger bark is just a problem as it is just too big in size.

"Some work has been done recently with foliar feeding of cacti, in particular Trichocereus. Their CAM mode of respiration and photosynthesis means that the stomata of the cacti are open at night and closed during the day. Low dilutions of peters 20:20:20 (1/4 tsp per gal) may be sprayed onto the cacti around midnight or so. The plants do well being foliar fed twice weekly when stomata are open, remember to rinse them if they have had no overhead water. The result is a cactus that almost glows, the glaucous coating becomes more prominent and the trace elements of the fertilizer (peters) help the cacti produce its defensive alkaloids. A hormone rich seaweed extract may be of use in foliar feeding as well. Indoors or in the greenhouse Co2 enrichment would also be done at night. An ideal Trichocereus indoor grow would have hot day temperatures in the 90s or so and cool nights in the 50-60s, the cool nights would have Co2 enrichment and an overhead spray system for foliar feeding being cautious to avoid an excess of moisture that may promote rot. EthnoGuy85 replied to theuserformallyknownasd00d's topic in Ethnobotany
Whilst watering some Tricho seedlings I realized that my black caapi vine that I assumed was dead(since the heater in the greenhouse failed and it got down to 28F/-2C). It's now got a sprout a couple of cm's tall! Glad I didn't throw the pot out early -

Does anyone have some tentative figures on monstrose/crested rates of crosses with the monstrose/crest as the pollen donor(father)?
