Whats a dopleganger, will check. ..Apparently it's definite a salvia family, I saw the mother plant in flower, white and purple. Also the person who owns it told me its a salvia but didn't know what type and lady was very knowledgable on all other plants that were growing leading me to believe she was speaking from experience in years of gardening. I just keep checking around and there are a couple of slight variants in salvia Div. all of which are directly related but very small differences in the appearance but all same basic chemistry. One had a whiter vein in the leaf one at rare times being able to bear seed.

From the album: Salvia ID?
Stem is square and hollow, has kind of white spikes but not real spikes just small raised white coloured bits along edge of the stem. -

Anyone have a clue about the type of salvia plant I have in the picture. It has a square stalk and leaves are about 5 inches long and 3-4 wide. Hollow stem. I think it's a rare one but not sure? -

Help ID garden shroom, Cubensis -Variety?

Thanks for all the replies, yes the print confirms it isn't a CR, why I didn't think of doing that first? Sometimes being outdoors with the sun and changes in weather will make you have to look twice at your shroom to check the variety your looking at. Where I come from on the top of the southern island nz there are heaps of Subaeruginosa. I grew up watching them spring up all over the garden and nearly every bark garden the council laid around the community. So cubes are still new to me and a little expert help is sometimes much appreciated. I knew the soil had a couple varieties in it and also a truffle sample so there were only a couple chances of what it was going to be. Also not a very good idea to use soil layden with mycelium for plants they tend to get fungal infection, go figure! Peace -

Ok so here's the print, and looks like its the Golden Teacher, because I think Columbian Rust is a light tan or pinky white spore. Will re-check my memory is correct for colour but this one is definite pinky- purple to black. Has excellent blue bruise around cut so no doubt it's Cubensis. -

Brumansia, Ephedra Viridis legal or not?
enohpi-zeekim replied to enohpi-zeekim's topic in Legal Matters
Yeah that's what I mean, there's so many nurseries out there still selling them and normally when a law goes through they are first to get rid of them. Also apparently there's Bruges in the wild here in oz! As for the others well I'm not totally convinced I should go out and stomp my garden yet but it means I gave to be more careful how open I am with them when the landlords ask! -
Brumansia, Ephedra Viridis legal or not?
enohpi-zeekim replied to enohpi-zeekim's topic in Legal Matters
Ok. I just keep getting asked when I move house,by landlords," oh that's illegal isn't it, (brugmansia) and of coarse in NZ they aren't, so I say no its media hype about proposed legislation I think you'll find. But then I thought I better check as I wasn't real sure. But I only have one little lophora pup, and two small cuttings etc... But I enjoy building my collection doing grafts selective breeding, so on. I just enjoy having plants that have potential for medicine and just exotic plants. So I think it's true what you say that it's only if I was to have a production line garden or was trying to mix up a brew for Alice in wonderland. But if a nasty landlord or whatever wanted I could get in trouble could I? Well sounds that way! That's crap! They were gods gift to man before the government decided they were taking over management! Stupid. I thought it was still legitamate to grow certain species if you were a part if a botanic group such as we are. -

Oh and lophora cacti, I was reading a page online and it said they were made illegal. Does anyone know the details about these species of plants as I have been collecting for years and these are just a few of the ones I have been starting to collect again after leaving my whole collection of plants and cacti in NZ to live in Queensland. I just think there is a lot of different ideas on them and I would like a bit of clarity. -
Can anyone tell me have Brugmansia of all varieties been Banned made illegal to grow as a collector? And the same question again but for Ephedra viridis and Ephedra gerardiana? I

Found this beautiful brugmansia/datura plant and negotiating to be allowed a cutting. I thought it was orange but maybe it's what they call a pink? Not sure. Looks orange to me. -
One of the more vigorous of the oyster mycelium

A separated piece of vigorous growing oyster mycelium ;) -

Trying out the pasteurised straw and horse poo substrate. Started it up with agar to grain, grain to bulk. Golden Oyster that is. There's a flush of white buttons tryin to make a break on the same type of substrate underneath. I broke my thermometer just after I started to pasteurise and I'm pretty sure I went over recommended temp. Not sure there's much to be done now but wait. Can't use hydrogen peroxide in a pasteurised substrate with horse manure and straw. Would defeat the good vibrational bacterial party going on. Oh well try and try some more! -

I inoculated a Chinese dinner with pink oyster and I have a nice covering of mycelium across the surface. There is a faint smell today of, blah, mould. I guess it's contaminated. Hard to tell yet. -
King oyster tissue sample, (clone) from local vege shop.

I found a king oyster mushie for dinner the other night, so I decided while I'm trying to culture my plants I'll try a mushroom or two. I left it in the fridge for a couple days and it must've been a bit old before buying it on special. It had a little slimy feel to it so I hope it's still viable. I placed it in my glove box with the items needed and took a sample, from both the base, and the top. After cutting into the shroom to find a clean sample I took three or four pieces from the centre and into the Petri with agar nutrients. I used agar, dextrose, malt extract & distiller water in the dish. After two days the growth is evident but not really huge. There were signs of decay on the mushroom which given their slimy texture was hard to keep away from the sample. I hope the decay doesn't over run the mycelium, at this stage it is very likely.
