    Cactus Grower Tips and Tricks

If you have a hoop house you can sink a couple of 2x4's into the ground on each end and use it as an anchor point for wind. It's what my boss does at his house and it seems to work so far with all the nasty storms we've gotten recently.

What did you do to your cacti today?

Checked cuttings again for roots and this time about half had rootlets so I put them into soil to root over the weekend while I'm away before I put them in the ground. This made extra room so I added my Kimnach and Colossus to the turface to root I also went back to the ethnobotanical garden and snapped a picture of the Terscheckii I got my pup from, it has seen better days but still a beauty. Found a walking stick hanging out among the spines

    Flower photo heavy 2014 season

Saw a Terscheckii blooming at work, it is pretty small (I want to say 3 ft) and the only one flowering so I was quite surprised. I'm hoping something else will flower and I can get a cross out of it. If anyone has any pollen (US) they'd want to try and pollinate with I'd give you most of the seed produced but I think it's going to be open in the next few days.. I also noticed this oddity and was wondering if anyone has witnessed something similar before? Both the scion and the stock are flowering simultaneously, I have seen stocks pup before but never flower. Lobivia Pampana crest grafted to a Harrisia Jusbertii

    Cactus Grower Tips and Tricks

As long as you anchor that sucker down really well I think it'd work as a nice shade cloth and barrier. Just remember it's a giant sail even though its semi-permeable to wind. I have been trying to figure out what my options are for such things on the coast where the possibility of strong winds/hurricanes is possible. Need a solid greenhouse

What did you do to your cacti today?

Thanks for the suggestion. I was originally trying to graft onto the inner flesh of the vascular core and make horizontal grafts but some pieces were definitely more along the lines of aerole grafts. I would bring them inside except I worry that my cat will mess with them like she always does. I also think they would dry more rapidly inside possibly causing more to fail? I don't have high hopes already because of the state of decomposition the cutting was in when I started making grafts but <fingers crossed> I will bring a couple inside and see if they do any better

My Echinopsis subdenudata flowered again, it had put out 3 flowers at once but I missed them so I made sure to catch this last one. I don't see any more buds so I guess it's done. Also came across this tree frog on my porch while getting the pictures.

What did you do to your cacti today?

hostilis those kosmic kaktus are the most terrible thing, I think I posted earlier in this thread with a few pictures when I first saw them nice scores btw, it's always nice to rescue some plants from the big box stores. Put some of my large cuttings outside in turface to root, here's a picture of the group. I still have a few indoors waiting for room outside I also chopped up my Rosei because it wasn't getting better after starting to rot in the package during 2+ months of shipping so in a desperate attempt to salvage the genetics I made a bunch of large aerole grafts. I hope I didn't wait too long, I usually have poor success grafting things that have already begun to rot There's 6 grafts so hopefully luck and statistics pull through and I end up with at least one success I was also checking on my Echinopsis subdenudata last night trying to get some flower pictures and I spotted this little guy, I wanted to catch him but decided to let him do his own thing. Hopefully he survives once it gets warmer, already 90+ days.

Are the white/yellow seedlings variegated? I don't believe there's anything special for germinating A. myriostigma, maybe a bunk batch or just need more waiting

Got my hands on some gorgeous cuts of some very nice genetics, these are some fatties <3 T. Colossus T. Pachanoi cv Kimnach Also managed to get a bunch of free small pots from work, 2" - 4" perfect for my purposes at the moment. Free is always nice and better than throwing them out

What did you do to your cacti today?

I had an SS02 previously, but got one of each from my sacred succulents order a few weeks back. For anyone who doesn't know the sacred succulent named clones: SS01 = peruvianoid SS02 = bridgesioid with 2 main spines per aerole SS03 = T. Knuthians SS04 = T. Chalaensis Which reminds me, was checking for roots and the first one I pulled had some awesome ones starting so I potted it. Checked the rest of them and sure enough... nothing T. Torres and Torres

What did you do to your cacti today?

Past couple of days have been like Christmas, both of these orders were placed quite a while ago and between letting cuttings dry and shipping time I had forgotten about/given up on these. Got half my cacti I had been waiting on from Australia from a fellow SAB member, I believe the other half may be caught up in customs. I had almost given up on them after 2+ months of waiting Sexy spineless Scopulicola T. bridgesii Psycho0 - after over 2 months in transit to me a few cuttings started to rot so I cut off anything that looked really bad and sulfured the wounds and just letting everything dry the best I can get it before attempting to plant anything in soil. A few of these have roots already and this cutting pupped in transit leaving weird white pickles, unfortunately they were smashed against spines so didn't survive. I think this is a Rosei, if someone knows otherwise please correct me. I am using my best educated guess with these and checking against what I had ordered T. bridgesii Kai I also had forgotten about this package, was a nice surprise. And with that I have finally completed my SS clone collection, I now own SS01-SS04 Now to root all these....
  20. That's funny you mention that hostilis, I had actually asked about the TBMs when he had up some clone a looking ones and got the same response and just thought they obviously didn't know anything so didn't bother.
  21. Is it just me, or do most cactus websites look awful and have terrible functionality

    Looking for Pereskiopsis (US)

I don't apply pressure to seedlings on pereskiopsis and I usually impale graft larger scions. If I need to apply pressure on larger graft stock I use rubber bands and cotton kite twine.
  23. Hello everyone, I have recently been trying to graft more and more seedlings and have been running low on pereskiopsis. They just won't root and grow fast enough for me, so I am trying to increase the number of mothers so I can have proper numbers for grafting. If anyone has any to spare or is overrun by them currently I am willing to pay or trade for them. I would prefer US members since fresh cuttings are best for peres.. Just shoot me a PM Thanks <3
