What did you do to your cacti today?

I had a log that started to rot last year and cut away the rot which left this funky looking chunk of cactus. I let it callous up and put it in a pot a few months back, I noticed it had rooted recently and I noticed it is pupping! I will have to look through some pictures to figure out what it is as I didn't have it labeled.

    Grafts -Photos & Updates

Myrtillo are great grafting stock. Some people swear by certain stock because it works well for them in their specific climate so I always encourage people to try different ones. I know some people who prefer Stenocereus or Harrisia. I recently started experimenting with using small amounts of super glue to help bind small seedlings to pereskiopsis while they heal. Anyone have experience using this technique and have any tips or any reason why I should avoid using it? I usually just use the juice from a pereskiopsis leaf as glue but have had a few grafts get knocked off before they are fully attached recently so decided to try this. Here is a picture of a T. Peruvianus I grafted last summer, still attached to the same pereskiopsis. It has lost all its leaves and I have to prop this graft up against another pot to keep it upright.
  3. I found this at work, it seems to be different from the PC pachanoi we also carry and seems to go 'limp' when it gets really hot. At least I have found a couple pieces that have done this. I found that it resembles my Trichocereus Torres & Torres from SS but if anyone has any idea I would love some help. I was also thinking maybe a tricho X echinopsis hybrid but not sure and there doesn't seem to be a tag in any of them. Thanks!

What did you do to your cacti today?

I hate bugs that eat cacti I put some marble chunks down to help reflect/disperse sunlight and to prevent weeds, unfortunately I only bought 2 bags thinking it would be enough. Will get some more bags but probably wait till I fill in the rest before putting much more down...

    Your experiences with BAP

a gram would be a whole lot, I have a tiny little tin of the stuff mixed in lanolin and use the smallest amount possible when using it. I find that using too much is detrimental and slows plants down
  6. Figured I would post a picture of my chimera, I was supposed to have gotten the hylocereus/gymno chimera but never received my package so trying to figure that out atm. I've always wanted to start a chimera
  7. I do agree with you zelly, when in the ground there are basically zero problems since nature does its own thang. And they grow so much better to their full potential I want to see a pic of nitrogen's TPC!

    Trichocereus - Altman Nursery Strains

8 RIBS OMG I don't know why people try to sell high rib count cuttings for so much... I once bought a bunch of pachanoi cuttings and 2 of them had 8 ribs, guess I got a good deal [edit] everything being sold by that person is pretty outrageously overpriced

    Cows Tongue

I have ants that are always running over my crested chola cacti, look very similar to the ones you have. They don't seemto mess with my other opuntias though.

What did you do to your cacti today?

So, I finally heard back from who I got the cuttings from and turns out it is indeed not a psycho0 at all but a bridgesii x peruvianus which I can totally see. Ah well, guess I need to start a thread to find a psycho0 stateside. Still a really nice cactus cutting. I also was informed that the piece I lost to rot was indeed a roseii Here's the pup a bit bigger, should be a beauty. Also snagged a Thelocactus Bicolor v. shwarzii, the flower on this one is fantastic so I grabbed one with 3 buds and some red spines

Trichocereus scopulicola cutting in the US???

Might have a few pups to offer once this log I have actually pups... Sourced it from Australia and it's a spineless beauty This is the top cut I received, just looks nicer than the log so posted it instead And as EthnoGuy mentioned SS does have a scop but you have to email and ask and pretty sure there's a wait atm.

    Grafts -Photos & Updates

I have thought the same thing but just rolled with it until it got a bit bigger to tell for sure. It looks like I grafted a seedling I had received rather than one I sowed, can't remember exactly but I looked through my ebay purchase history and found I purchased some bridgesii seedlings, most of which died because they were shipped in a bubble mailer and got smushed right before this picture was taken so I'd say it would have to be from them. Who knows what they are, looks a bit terscheckiiish maybe? The graft has slowed down considerably since all the scions are quite large... 8/17/13 2/10/14

I like the spider home, bet that thing never has pest issues.

Any idea why you'd put cups on top a cactus?

styrofoam works best for this since it is a good insulator, like in the picture

What did you do to your cacti today?

Yeah, it may have actually been earlier in this thread. I thought it just looked funny because of old growth and missing spines from transit but it definitely does look different. If only they had been labeled, oh well. I'll put up some pictures in a month or 2 and see what everyone thinks Now I really want that 2nd box to show up!

    Flower photo heavy 2014 season

This graft has been exploding with new growth recently. New flowers every couple of days and it has been pushing out new pups like crazy. The stock even has 2 basal pups emerging, going to let them get taller and then graft something else to em

What did you do to your cacti today?

I have been calling it psycho0 on purpose for specifically this reason, hoping somebody would go hey that doesn't look right and tell me what it might be haha. It'll end up going in the ground once it roots out either way, I am interested to see what it looks like too. Now I need to get my hands on a real psycho0 cutting and the other clones I have been trying to get

What did you do to your cacti today?

I am not 100% sure if it is a Psycho0, I ordered a few different clones from a member here and they took 2+ months to arrive. I was supposed to get 2 boxes but only 1 arrived, not sure if the other is still stuck in customs or what happened but this was my best guess based off what I had ordered and the sizes of the things I got. I got a scop which was easy to ID and a bridgesii cv Kai which was 15cm but also got a peruvianoid that rotted away I was pretty sure was a Rosei #1 since it didn't look anything like a Yowie. This 'Psycho0' was the only other 30cm cut I had gotten besides the scop. I had ordered a 30 cm Super Pedro but this is definitely not that either. I just thought it was an old growth middle cut since mature bridgesii tend to look like peruv/cuzco. Definitely doesn't look like what you posted zed... Here's a pic of the mother plant of the psycho0 cutting I received, I haven't actually heard back from the member I bought them from which is why I have had to guess

The colored San Pedro Flower Project

Can't wait to sow some seeds, thanks EG! I just got a couple of cacti to help jump-start this project. Ordered a T. tulhuayascensis and a couple of T. tulhuayascensis X T. bridgesii seedlings from SS. High hopes from both as they are already fat and spiny little guys, can't wait to see the flowers on em tulhuayascensis hybrids: All three together

What did you do to your cacti today?

Both of those are fantastic looking! I hope my Psycho0 ends up looking like that. It just started putting out new pups after the ones it put out during shipping got smashed up. Waiting for it to root up a bit in this pot then it'll be going in the ground. I also got another SS delivery, really nice stuff as always. Trichocereus tulhuayacensis KK337 X T. bridgesii, really excited to see what color these flower. slightly shorter spines on this one Trichocereus tulhuayacensis KK337 Group shot And a few other goodies rooting with the rest

Grafted this a couple of weeks ago, T. Pachanoi monstrose X SS02, it started throwing out some interesting growth. Not sure if it's going crested or just funky monstrose growth at the moment... It was the lightest seedling in the bunch so I grafted it in hopes that it was variegated. I can't wait till it gets a bit bigger Getting sexier every day along with it's crested neighbor, these are putting on some really attractive growth
