I will be interested to see what it does, as I have seen normal bridgesii get melty from stress like a small pot but not a full blown TBM looking top. I think it may have terminated so the top will probably pup from the lone aerole. I will keep y'all updated on progress but it'll be slow since it is probably dormant now

Myrtillocactus geometrizans monstrosa variations
djmattz0r replied to sagiXsagi's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I haven't, Myelo. We just got a flat worth maybe a month or two ago so they've been rooting and just starting to grow well. I completely forgot about the spineless Myrtillo as well, have heard that one is a cut it and pray that it pups since the aeroles are non-existant/hidden. -
Myrtillocactus geometrizans monstrosa variations
djmattz0r replied to sagiXsagi's topic in Cacti & Succulents
That's all I know, it's pretty rare and I haven't really seen it anywhere besides an Italian eBay source. -
I can assure you it's not a graft, looks like a normal bridgesii column then turns into a TBM like growth. Pretty sure it was just purchased as a 'semi-monstrose' bridgesii. These are the only other pics I had of it.

Myrtillocactus geometrizans monstrosa variations
djmattz0r replied to sagiXsagi's topic in Cacti & Succulents
There is also another crested form, the strictum crest. I think it is a variation of 'Elite' based on its growth habit and size. It almost looks like a TBMC as it is more smooth and wavy than ribbed, but has the Myrtillo color and spines. These were imported from Italy originally. Here's a few next to some Elite for a side by side comparison: Elite that gets cut on a bunch some Elite crests a few regular Myrtillo crests, I think the long spined one is different as well? -
Realized I never delivered, so here ya go. Some juicy aeroles... These first 3 are from the cactus in question: And these other 2 pics are of some spines from other known T. santiaguensis monstrose in the greenhouse:

My boss found this cactus from a local dude, he was told that it tends to grow prostrate once it gets larger. I was a bit confused by the geometric nature of the growth but now believe I know what it is. Would like to hear y'alls opinions.

Sorry I have been very busy with cold weather approaching and 4 greenhouses + prop stock to protect. All snug and hopefully warm as the temps dip tonight. I will try to remember and get a close up picture of the aeroles tomorrow. I was leaning towards L. schotii monstrose from the angular growth but thought it was more T. santiaguensis monstrose looking overall. I was told by another person that it is a T. santiaguensis monstrose just a different clone or a rare growth pattern perhaps. I will have to look more into it and bring some aerole pictures soon!

Put a bunch of the cacti in pots between my in ground ones to save space and get ready for the cold. I forgot to take a picture after I put the plastic down on the hoop. Had to get the 3 other greenhouses at work ready as well. Pulled a back muscle lifting cinder blocks :/ Tried to get some other things together in this corner.

There should be two types of crested myrtillo in the US. The normal large form and the 'Elite' form which is smaller and more dense growing when it crests. There is also a crested form that is just making its way from Europe that looks kinda like an elite crest but less spines. I think they call it strictum crest, reminds me of a TBMC and a myrtillo crest.

Good luck on the imports! I feel like Eileen is already pretty available in the US through Sacred Succulents. Psycho0 is always a good one as I have only seen a handful of people with it domestically. I have succesfully imported Psycho0, Yowie, Sausage Plant, Kai, Super Pedro, and a few others from a few very friendly SAB'ers over the years.... Make sure you spend the extra for air shipping Only real piece of advice I can give as I have done both sea and air, sea just takes too long and you risk having melted cactus at the end.

Stimulant use for ADHD sufferers.
djmattz0r replied to Distracted's topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
I too have this paradoxical reaction with stims as someone diagnosed with ADHD. I have taken 30mg Adderall XRs and fallen asleep for hours. I tend to get very sleepy on the come-up for amphetamines and after that I tend to be slightly stimulated, probably because of such a large dose. -
does someone in The Entire World have a full sacred succulent catalogue?
djmattz0r replied to DiscoStu's topic in Wanted
I may have the tricho list for this year, PM me if you still need. -
That's basically it, since growth occurs at the apical meristem, the more aeroles at the top the more chance in theory for the cactus to pup from those aeroles since they'll have all the auxins etc. I feel like it has a lot to do with how developed the root system is and what part of the season the cut is taken. I never really understood why people make cuts at a 45 degree other than to prevent water buildup on top since it limits the amount of aeroles closest to the top.
-
That is what we usually do at work, it's supposed to increase the number of pups after cutting but I don't know exactly how true this is. I sometimes feel removing a pup from the part where it makes contact with the original cactus makes for a smaller wound on the cutting which in turns heals and roots faster. I need to do more experimentation, but I haven't really noticed a huge benefit and I don't think it looks very good.

Anyone else vaping or using ecigs/ejuice? Lets talk :)
djmattz0r replied to AndyAmine.'s topic in Chill Space
My home rig is a Sigelei 150w box with a Mutation X V4 drip top running a 0.2 ohm build of dual fused clapton coils. Puts out massive clouds and flavor. For work and driving I use a IPV mini 2 with an Atlantis 2 tank since I can fill the tank and be good most of the day instead of dripping every 4-5 hits, also much smaller than the Sigelei set up since it only runs a single 18650 batt. Favorite juice right now is Medusa from Fog Works Vapor Supply, it's a max VG juice that tastes like fruity pebbles. Unfortunately not in Aus but they just opened their web store and may ship? -

I would say it's definitely not a Juul's Giant but looks like a nice cut either way!

Flowering is so strange because it can be signs that your cactus is doing fantastic or that it's on its way out and flowering is a last ditch effort to reproduce before dying as in the case of a mature column cutting that flowers without setting roots. I don't have personal experience with tricho flowers... yet. I have a peruXSS02 that is about flowering size (hopefully) so we will see what happens this winter. But this is what I have observed through my internet excursions and I would believe Zelly since he is the seed king

I tried to cut the vascular core length wise to do 2 slab grafts to get a bunch of pups and it was a little crooked. That side in particular is not attached well to the scion but the part with the core is well connected. I will try to get some better pictures when I go check em out at work. (moved em to the greenhouse at work for better growth)
