  1. My grafting technique normally gets around 99% success rates so I have a hard time switching to that. I've tried pressure grafts and gotten much lower rates of success and more cases of scion rot. This was kind of a freak accident with the bags as I usually do not even touch them after I put the bag on. But maybe one day I'll try it out again.

  2. I grafted 3 of the scopulicola x c. peruvianus seedlings. They were probably under 1mm thick and like 1-2mm tall.  Two failed just by the humidity bag falling onto them and the third one took and is now growing. It has gotten bigger than it was when i did the graft. Was very difficult.  The only smaller grafts I've done have been aztekium seedlings, but I have no pictures.

  3. I used to have one of these threads but can't find it. I started ramping up my cactusing again so I'm going to be throwing pictures in here and updating with stuff I'm doing.

Lots of cool plants on the way. I am waiting for the astrophytum seeds to get here to start those. I have already grafted about half of the ariocarpus seeds. Lots of variegates. Stoked to show them off when they're bigger.

  4. I see. The leaves have that shape to them, but the structure isn't right for an epiphyte.

I really wish I could plant cacti in the ground where I am!!! Well, I can, but only those that can survive freezing temps and snow for months. I have a few opuntia in the ground and they are doing great.

  5. I feel you. This year has been the best for me. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it because I got like 5x more growth than I have in previous years. It's a constant learning process. Probably even after 30 years.

  6. Hello everyone. I've been getting lots of astrophytum flowers recently. Among those flower these things have been popping up. Some of them start to form petals and then usually die, but some of them don't start forming petals and just keep growing like this. They look like a hybrid between a pup, flower bud, and fruit, but don't fit the profile fully for any of those organs.

Have any of you experienced this? Do any of you know what they are?

Here are some photos of the ones without petals. They've been growing for about 2 months.

This one is forming petals, but has been growing for 3 weeks longer than the flower that already completed.

I decided to do an autopsy on one of them. It seems like a normal section on the inside, but it almost looks like there is some pollen forming in the growth point at the top. There is some yellow dust, but there are no petals forming.

I am thinking of grafting one of them to see what it grows into. I'll update here if I do.

If any of you know what this is then please let me know! I'm extremely curious. I've never seen this before in person or online.

  7. This beautiful variegated asterias finally decided to open a flower up for me and it was quite the spectacle! I also had a few other non-variegates flower for me. Here are some photos.

I crossed it with the plat on the left in this photo. It should be an interesting hybrid!! I also crossed those two plants in the photo with each other. Unfortunately those flowers were done before this one opened. Otherwise I would have use pollen from the variegate to pollinate them.

  8. Wow. That doesn't look like scop. My koehres scop seedling graft failed, but the other two took and they're looking promising.

BB Scop x TE Scop from MasterB Looks great!!

    post-12824-0-43221500-1438451572_thumb.j

Ebay Scop. This one is already starting to show the spines sinking into the areoles with those weird ridges, but it looks a bit off.

    post-12824-0-83999300-1438451582_thumb.j

I have a few more scop x scop from random people that I'm going to be sowing soon. I'll keep you all updated.

  9. Here's a big TPQC x TPM. It grows so much different on a big stock. You can see the old growth with tons of spines and growth points, but the new growth on the big stock is just one huge crest. I called this one TPQC x TPM "Broccoli"

    Here is a TPM x N1

Here's a different clone of TPQC x TPM. The entire crest's growth point died and turned black randomly, but it healed and started growing again with the tiny pieces of the crest that weren't dead and new pups.

Not sure what this one is. I lost the label. I think it was TPC x something or other.

Then here are my nitrogen's seedlings on their own roots.
