Did this graft, i am surprised it survived. I forgot what the scion was called, it is fuzzy to touch http://i.imgur.com/vCw8KPW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/U7F9a3i.jpg

Anyone got lots of spare cactus seeds from one of their trichs or some other type of cactus?
-
Sooooooo, would it mean that the hairy clone and the non-hairy clone of pereskiopsis are genetically different enough not to be clones of each other? So they could cross pollinate each other?
-
Damn i really want a hairy clone now

trichocereus scopulicola - should I have purchased it?
gr33ntea replied to perelandra's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I am sure you do a lot of things for her that are not cool with your plans. Tell her you're buying a cactus not a puppy, chances are she won't even notice it. -
Can we see pictures? I am quite fond of pereskiopsis, they change their appearance drastically under different conditions. For me t5 fluro lights it becomes hairy. Full sun it becomes super spiky.

I tried searching for Woolunda Monster Pedro, didnt find anything, does it grow really fast?

I am doing some experiments to see which soil is the best for cacti seeds, I am hoping someone is selling lots of cactus seeds particularly trichocereus seeds Thanks for your time
-
Yeah they make yellow flowers,

For the love of god, if you have a glochidless pereskiopsis please distribute it to everyone else

My theory is that pereskiopsis is not self sterile and we can't cross pollinate because all our cuttings are from the same plant. The earliest mention of pereskiopsis sp. i have seen is by a shroomery user by the name Una around 10 years ago (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2899325/fpart/1/vc/1) What i am thinking is that one person (Una) got some cuttings from a plant and distributed it to everyone in America and eventually it went to Europe and Australia. So maybe all our pereskiopsis are genetically identical which means cross pollinating inst possible, Where does pereskiopsis grow in the wild?

I saw this around on Ebay, i have never seen something like this before. It would make such an useless grafting stock. Edit: Some guy in Poland is selling it

Perhaps you are shoving the very tip where it is full of new growth and other lovely hormones that help it root fast. Well that was my experience anyway

Usually if i do not connect the vascular rings of seedlings they shrivel and die while still attached to the scion. These ones haven't shriveled and died. They are still rock hard. And they have been in my greenhouse where it is hot and would certainly dehydrate it if the graft weren't successful. So i guess now i just wait for it. But it is possible so you should experiment as well if you curios.

Hello i remember asking and was told that Pereskia grafts are either not possible or there is no advantage to it. To test the theory I did some grafts a few days ago and to my surprise they did not shrivel and die. Pereskia is more ancient than pereskiopsis, it grows and looks like a tree and does not resemble a succulent or cactus at all I can't think of any advantages woody pereskia has over succulent pereskiopsis for grafting but I am curious of the growth rate. (Most likely will be slower than pereskiopsis. The pereskia here is Pereskia Aculeata Godseffiana and the scion is some trichocereus seedling

Any cactus i have that is slightly like a weed i keep in a pot. When i dispose of it i place it in black bag in the sun to be heated up and died. Thanks for the info.

I am looking for an established plant of this. Something that can produce offsets later on. I really like this plant i wish it came in a spineless variety. Thanks for your time. I uploaded some pictures below. I am looking for the normal form not the monstrose form where it has like an offset sticking out from every areole I live in Victoria, Melbourne in Northern Suburbs region in case you wondering.

That is what i am testing out. I already made some grafts, some say it is really bad, some say it is bad and some say it is pretty good. I think it depends on the scion used.

will scaly cuttings produce healthy pups?
gr33ntea replied to Chainsaw's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Does rust spread through the vascular rings? Is that what you meant by core? -

Mechanically brush them off with a toothbrush and i think peroxide or iso-alcohol kills iut -
I grew mine from a cutting, sound like a bad evolutionary for pereskia lol, have you tried cutting the leaves? I got my one under a grow light.

Ok well without a plastic bag they do better. The grafts 2 were successful while the big ones 1 were not successful. Thanks for the tips guys, i am glad i have a fighting chance now. 1. 2.

I made some grafts on very fresh tips, i sterilized and everything and when i placed the graft on it i taped it down but not too tightly I then put a plastic bag over it, sealed it up a little and placed in my shed in the shade. For some reason they have caved in, the scion is perfectly ok, i even regrafted them. But why did my grafting stock (Trichocereus Pachonoi) do this? Strangely i had opuntia grafts in the same conditions and they did not do the same. They were in the shed for 2 days.
