What did you do in your sacred garden today?

interesting! i have not tried rooting caapi leaves like that yet.... -
What do YOU think about the effects of kava extract on sex, desire and performance? I have heard conflicting stories. Also, do you think daily use kills libido/ performance , as some have suggested? That scares me a bit. Although, my Dad had severe health problems and a stroke, and lost his sex drive, he said. To me, this seemed like a huge tragedy. I asked him how he felt about that. He said...."oh, not too bad. Think of it like some sort of addiction you had most of your life, That just gave you no end to the trouble it caused..... And then, one day.....it just did not matter anymore!" "If it's not too personal......" (M. Python, life of Brian)

ok, maybe this should have been posted under 'degenerative' threads, sorry !

Hiaint, .........you made it here! Welcome! No luck on those seeds here either, however, they were appreciated as were all seeds/plants you sent.

Dang, NO ONE ever REALLY seems to have Diplopterys cabrerana......except that guy in South America....

I ordered some black caapi seeds, I hope I can get them to sprout! Black Caapi Matters!!!

Personally, I had one kava extract that seemed to enhance sex, and one that seemed to hinder it. Excellent combined with Kratom. Of course, only where legal and appropriate, And under the clinical supervision of a doctor. Or sex with a doctor.( female for me, thank you!) Butt (sic) I digress!

It would almost seem, that this enigmatic plant prefers to grow 'between a rock and a hard place'! Excellent photos, inspiring. Thanks all!

Very helpful, thanks! I appreciate this plant more for its archetypal enigmatic ethnobotanical history of use than its content.

Who knows how well the extract from China, was extracted.. Has anyone tried plants that they grew themselves? I wonder if it could be vaporized...... -

Very impressive! -
I have recently had the opportunity to try some LED growlights, that fit into regular T-8 florescent fixtures. must say, I like results. They are red light on one row, white light in the second row. (where ordinary bulbs would go) Not sure on price as this set was a gift, but I am mega impressed with how plants react to them so far. Will have to get more info on how long they are good, and cost to determine just how great they may or may not be all considered.

If you grow from seed, I suggest very sandy soil, do not transplant before they get a bit bigger.... -
These are disinfected madrake seeds in sterile agar, so there are some variables involved. I will do a search, -also have some Ginseng seeds that were not stratified...that I will stratify this winter. The 'instructions' that came with them said 'Just sow in a sunny window' Perhaps I do need bats drowned in cows milk on the full moon, to water these seeds with and some graveyard dust to work with this plant, as the ancient texts suggest!!

These seeds might not be viable maybe?? What if I put them in the freezer for a few days, do you think that would work?

Anodyne-That is what I was thinking of--the zombie catepillar fungs, so highly prized in Chinese Traditional medicine. Scarecrow--will have to look into that plant you mentioned. -

They will also root right from the vein if left not broken, or if cut in half, or if the vein is broken. Also rootable in a sterile closed jar of perlite. -

Cordyalis is a b^tch to cultivate in the USA.....no silkworms available!! Or I would, for sure. I has been/ is being done. The seeds I planted for Incarvella Sinensis ...a few survived, and have started growing faster. Got more seeds Lesson: Just do things the proven way/ follow instructions the first time, experiment later. -
everything does well outdoors in its native conditions. I am wanting to start some now, far from where it grows. Re creating good conditions. and so, I asked, what are temps/ conditions for mandrake seeds to sprout? I have some, none have sprouted. Haughty Culture - hawr-ti-kuhl-cher] noun 1. the cultivation of a garden, orchard, or nursery; the cultivation of flowers, fruits, vegetables, or ornamental plants. 2. the science and art of cultivating such plants.

Had to re pot large M speciosa trees someone planted in industrial sized garbage cans. These are fine to have here, and cause no one problems. Imagine, someone considering a plant...being evil? projection, perhaps? Still, we worship and obey all rules of our ingenious government overlords at all times here, OF COURSE!!!!! After all....its for our own good...what WOULD we do without them??? Trimmed the roots way back, planted in containers 1/3 rd the original size. Temps getting down to lower 40's here time to bring warm weather plants indoors for winter. -
Potting up plants...gradual pot sizes vs biggest pot
shonman replied to gtarman's topic in Ethnobotany
I like to step up gradually in pot size=better roots. Denser, I just transplanted two M Speciosa trees (ok the have here) out of large unwieldy industrial size garbage cans. Too big to deal with taking indoors for me, Someone else planted these a while ago. I am having to transplant them down in size to 1/3 their original container size. One looks like it was gradually stepped up into bigger containers, roots /size was dense. The other looked like it went right into the large container without gradually stepping up in size. The roots shot straight to the bottom of its container and got this without the same density. This one is having to adjust more. I have some experiencer and 'listen' to the plant, so I am pretty sure both will make it. Gradual up in pot size=better root system. Although, Mutant is correct about depends on what plant...example: Mandrake -

A couple of the ones I started from seed might make it....many did not. Some observations: Next time, I will plant them micropropagation style, as well as possibly plant them the usual way in soil that is either coir/perlite sand mix, heavier than usual on the sand side or maybe 50/50 potting soil/sand. Also, I will not try to transplant them or start them in an aquaponic system above damp perlite on felted grass...these like it dry. felted grass substrate is great for starting seeds and microgreens but can also be more inclined to get fungus if not in good light and damp. Try to plant in a manner that can transplanting until these get larger. Avoid 'damping off' ...keep dry but water....in the soil that drains well. Or, happy go lucky seemed to work for those doing it that way. outside in warmer months on the shade side of another plant Avoid excessive moisture bigtime -

very cool! man, starting these from seed is bogus...better to get a live plant. some might still make it though...next time I will disinfect and start in sterile conditions/micropropagate...then root cuttings
