Hey guys I'm currently enjoying Ross River Fever along with 6000 or so other Australians... various things led me towards "Gumbi Gumbi" as a potential treatment. The plant is Pittosporum phylliraeoides (there are a few synonyms). I'm told it's hemiparasitic, and that the host tree is an Aboriginal secret of some description, these were obtained through the wife of an elder/trusted person. I've heard there is a lot of bunk stuff going around that isn't grown on the same host, but I was directed to this my a trusted forum member who assured me it was authentic. So... I'm posting a daily diary on FB about my experiences, I thought I'd duplicate it here for posterity and general interest. Here goes: Day 1 Yesterday I received my package of Gumbi Gumbi to try and treat my Ross River Virus infection. I was told it was about a month's supply, and weighed the fairly small, bone dry leaves in at a bit over 60g, so figured on 2g as a daily dose. I made a tea using a coffee plunger and a big of honey, left for more than 5 minutes to infuse. I'm drinking it while I write this, it's actually quite pleasant and very "oz" tasting, the flavour is kind of what I imagine eucalyptus would be like without the menthol; it could easily become an acquired taste. I've been told to expect results after 10-14 days which seems optimistic... will soon find out!

Hey guys I harvested seed from this magnificent fellow today, I'd say I have about 50 to spare. I'm told the colouring of the leaves and variegation is unpredictable and that a wide variety of phenotypes can result from the seed. Quite a rare one from what I can gather, and personally one of my favourite ornamentals. First person to name the species gets 20 seeds. Once I confirm somebody has correctly guessed, the next 5 posters will get 6 seeds each. If nobody gets it by Tuesday night I'll change the rules! (I've let the seeds dry out partially but will bag them up in the morning since I think freshness is a factor in viability, so be prepared to get them in dirt quick!) godspeed y'all -ef

Why not lanolin? It makes it very easy to apply.

I'd agree with thunderhorse about not growing Solanums near poisonous ones, i.e. datura brugmansias nicotianas etc. That said I've grown nicotianas and daturas near tomatoes and chillis with no ill effects. Or maybe I don't remember them? ;) A fence isn't going to stop anything miss-meandor88. The possums... well I wouldn't mind culling a few to be perfectly honest, they eat all my edibles here. You'd want to use a different area of the garden or a different bed altogether. Aconite and mandrake are some of the few VERY toxic ones I'd be somewhat concerned about. Just don't keep them too close to any edibles/medicinals you plan on consuming. But by that I mean not directly beside them, the chances of soil leaching are pretty damn slim unless you're planting in dense clay. (Which in Brisbane is not out of the question!)

toé? i.e. tropanes (scopolamine etc or datura/brugmansia) added to the mix? or simultaneous sly use of stimulants? seems like very odd behaviour for someone on straight aya. -

Trichs & Gypsum? Lime? Avoiding Stretch When Rooting Cuts?
endorfinder replied to Derkshaman's topic in Cacti & Succulents
If you want to adjust pH then dusting sulphur isn't a bad option, not too brutal. My understanding is that it is slowly converted by soil microbes into sulfuric acid over the course of a couple of weeks. Meters are cheap and much easier to use than those silly test kits. There's a lot of cheap gardening stuff on AliExpress if you're happy to wait a couple of weeks for delivery from Asia. You can also just piss in your pots to good effect. Plants that truly care about soil pH are pretty few and far between though. -
Cheers sharxy I'll have my central line out Saturday and be done treatment fingers crossed, should make it fine on Sunday.

I second Sally especially on the clay breaking - I've never found it useful in this regard period, even though that's often what its principally marketed for. Great for mushroom grain spawn though.. -
Thanks bro! Sharxx will be visiting Sunday or Tuesday most likely if you want to line up with that, or from Tuesday or Wednesday I'll be alone mostly that'd be the best time if you wanna make your own way over, if I roughly remember where you live it's easy to get where I will be just a short walk off Coro. Cheers to the well wishes from all again.

I've only been a couple of times myself, Sharxx hasn't lived in brissie that long either. Shit I've never met red and we live walking distance apart. Would love to see ya there mate.

In hospital with staph from gardening and grafting with open cuts... Yeah it happens kids. My parents knew a lady who died doing the same thing years ago. Can't make it this weekend but wanna catch up while you're over this side of town Sharxx? Be sitting in Auchenflower with my mama for a week on a drip after I get out of hospital, basically apartment bound.

Find a friend overseas if you have one, or get a remailer service as zelly said, use a gmail.com or similar email, if possible make sure seeds and labels fit requirements before their final leg. Small amounts of contaminants can be a death knoll. Double packaging is good for small orders from commercial vendors particular if opaque.
