Seed Giveaway - Salvia apiana, Salvia viridis, Naga Jolokia
endorfinder replied to endorfinder's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
Just had some Salvia farinacea arrive, and I have a handful of freshly picked S. coccinea seed as well if anyone was after salvia varieties in particular. MountainGoat I'll send as best a range I can for you -
Does anyone have any ideas for host candidates other than pine?

My mother in law pruned my caapi :(
endorfinder replied to InnerPathsToOuterSpace's topic in Ethnobotany
Caapi won't just survive pruning, it loves it. If the main stem on the remaining foot or two is at least pencil thick I'd take the opportunity to cut a few more nodes off to make some T cuts. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26670 - ignore the debate over T vs L cuts, it makes very little practical difference. Just rough up the hardwood node with secateurs or your teeth before dipping in rooting hormone. I just moved, and have one caapi I hacked back hard, dug out of the ground after 2-3 years, and stuck in a pot to bring with me. (Never fear I still left one in the ground in the tropics When I first stuck caapi in the ground I planted multiples without realising just how unnecessary that is!). After repotting, it was maybe 40cm with no remaining side branches or foliage - a couple of months of bare minimum attention later and it's exploding again. Once it starts growing I recommend frequent tip pruning both to bush it up and to encourage the vine to thicken up I've heard of home grown caapi reaching 6"+ in diameter at the base when regularly pruned and fed well. -
Are you comparing to fresh damiana or dried packet stuff Roopey? They're like night and day for me, fresh (gently dried) is unquestionably active and powerfully aromatic, the mass produced product has never done squat, although I've never tried tea.

endorfinder replied to endorfinder's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
Right back atcha tarenna At this point I should have enough seed to cover all of you and anyone who posts in the next 40 minutes or so. PM me your postals and which seed you're after and I'll get them out next week when I can afford luxuries like stamps again ;) There'll be enough seed to split it so everyone gets a decent number of what they're after, cheers beautiful people -

zed240 they're yours mate, send me a PM with your addy. Since zed asked after only 2 mins I should probably make this a lottery. 8 seed packs to go, post your preference and after 24hrs I'll do the random number thing and pick the winners. cheers guys -ef -
Was disappointed not to meet up, red, good to hear you're around. Since it currently seems there's no schedule, wanna make it fortnightly?

Indian grocers, polynesian shops, online. If it's Fijian product, "waka" grade is the more desirable. If you've got enough time if may be worth shopping online to find a nice sounding variety rather than just buying whatever you can find. Kava ain't kava, the ratio of different actives is unique to each batch from each cultivar. Better to pay a small amount extra for a much better product. I see no reason according to the law why you can't bring kava in from any country, it's just that it's only commonly sold in the south pacific. Would "dried form" include freeze dried instant kava concentrate? That would be my ideal choice to bring back. Unfortunately I never got to try Klim's but many seem to still rave about it.

Ferret had some luck rooting A. colei (?) cuttings maybe six month ago, have a look for his thread.

Next time let's organise a bbq for next week, things were largely cut short by hunger and the setting sun.

I personally don't, there's plenty of room for them to run around and keep themselves busy.
