Zelly's trich crosses, got pics? post here please
Kykeion replied to mushroomman's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I got one of these in some mixed seedlings I got from you. Still too small at this point to be worth a photo, but growing quickly. -
Those are some pretty awesome cultivars you have there Sabry. Hopefully that hybrid is real. I have a supposed LophxTubincarpus cross that I love. I'm not sure if it is real, but there are some rather unique characteristics. Also that Lophophora diffusa cv. Urtraman is bad ass! I'd really like to see some more examples of it, and what an older specimen looks like. Bummer google didn't turn up any results, so I guess it is "Super Super SUPER rare." Philo, as far as unintentional cross genus/species hybrids go I think you are in a position of little risk. It is my understanding that even when specifically attempting to create such crosses (especially inter-genus crosses) odds of successful pollination are fairly low, and beyond that the viability of the seed produced is fairly low. Obviously this is not the case with all genus/species (Trichocereus and Echinopsis for example), but I think Lophos tend to be less likely to hybridize freely.

Wow, I want to go to that gardening fair!

Thanks for the offer pimento, but Happyconcacti hooked me up so I am good to go. Who knows, maybe they will show up someday...
-
You are right, I don't have a post in the giveaway. Pimento had actually offered me some via pm. I suppose it is possible he forgot about me, but he had mentioned in our convos that they had been sent just over a month ago. I have not received a letter, but Aus is the only country I have ever had trouble receiving from so I put 2 and 2 together. I figured pimento has been more than generous enough already so I thought I'd see if someone else had a few they wouldn't mind sharing, rather than pestering pim or trying to nab one of the three spots left here.
-
I'm cross-posting here, but it looks like lost at customs roulette with the seeds pimento so generously shared. Is there anybody here in the US who got their seeds who is willing to part with a few of each type? I'm more than happy to compensate in some way if necessary.

Nice work! Looks great. Can't wait to see this again in a few years.

How do you consume raw garlic for antibiotic purposes?
Kykeion replied to gtarman's topic in Ethnobotany
I remember watching and episode of chopped or one of those cooking competition shows and the judge complained that too much garlic was used. I stopped watching right there, obviously the judges had no credibility. "Too much garlic" WTH? -
Glow in the dark Echinocactus grusonii "Glowing wonder"

Right? Although I have a greater disdain for the assholes that "own" the transgenic genes and sue out of existence farmers who's crops are polluted by these genes at no fault of their own. I really should sue my neighbors for stealing my apples when they fall off my trees and onto their side of the fence. Sorry to derail... so back on topic non-controversial glowing cacti! Here and Here -
Alright, who wants to throw down on these bad boys and start spreading them around the community? I realize the Aussies and Kiwis are out since your customs regs and inspections are pretty much impossible to deal with. My luck has been about 50/50 here in the US, so how about our friends in the Euro zone? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trichocereus-pachanoi-cv-PURPLE-STONE-monstruosus-NO-variegated-M71-/311364356960?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item487ec30b60 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trichocereus-pachanoi-NEW-MONSTRUOSUS-clone-100F-from-OSAKA-JAPAN-/191584659416?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c9b55e7d8

That's pretty cool that you just "found" those growing in your backyard! I remember trying one years ago and not being super impressed. I just saw some at the grocery store the other day and considered trying it again till I noticed they were selling them at $4 a pop.

Which continent are you on dood?

Not cool. I seem to recall someone else here having a similar problem and having to cut down the trees to solve it

Hard to say at this point (it is so tiny). It could be off of a monstrose specimen, possibly even a new cultivar. However it could just be a bit of funky growth (genetic or environmentally triggered) that someone removed and grafted and is trying to pass off as some new shiny freak. Some trichs seem to throw funky growth when they are growing under less than perfect conditions, then revert to normal growth when presented with more favorable growing conditions. Hopefully it really is something new and fancy. I love to know what it grows out like, but I don't wanna pay that much to find out ;)

Nitrogen´s Connoisseur hybrids - pics and seed giveaway
Kykeion replied to nitrogen's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Ohhhh! That last on is my favorite nitrogen, like a double crest or something. -
OT, sorry. But ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ, where did you find that mushroom stone in your first pic? I knew such repos had to be "out there" somewhere, I have just never come across any.

tips for dealing with variegated cacti
Kykeion replied to pinegapcontrol's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I have noticed with my hoya collection that the variegated plants tend to grow less variegated leaves when they are deprived of sunlight compared to when they are receiving proper lighting. I assume greater chlorophyll production to make up for less light is part of the cause. I have no idea if this would hold true for cacti or not. I have noticed anecdotally that variegated cacti seem more prone to sunburn if they are nor carefully transitioned to greater light levels. -
Nice score! I'm glad you were in the right place at the right time to eventually serve as the middle man between Mr. X's Secret Garden and the rest of us!

Monster and semi-monster bridgesii 's : general phenotype discussion
Kykeion replied to mutant's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I agree with nut, pimento that is a tbmc. I think if it were just a crested T. bridg it would look much more like zelly's crest. How many tbmc's are there? I'm not sure, but I know someone on another forum who believes he has three that he has collected. I agree with you zelly, there do seem to be at least 3 varieties of TBM. I certainly don't have the experience that zelly does, but what I have experienced with my own collection correlates well with zelly's statements above. I am heading out to my greenhouse tonight, so I with take some photos for y'all. -
Monster and semi-monster bridgesii 's : general phenotype discussion
Kykeion replied to mutant's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I'll contribute some photos here when I get the chance. Just went through an unexpected move and the greenhouse and plants are all temporally staying at a friends place. Please share the love!!! Who really needs a shitload anyway? Oh! I've got one of those to share too! -
I can understand that. Was mostly curious if someone had merely thinned the herd so to speak, or if they were totally getting out of the cactus game given the size of the haul. I can't even imagine what must have been there if this is just the seasonal clean up!

Good God! Some back story? Looks like you cleaned out a botanical garden!
