    Mycology discord chat rooms

*Bump* Also, anyone whos been over, got any recommendations for other topics you'd like to see on there? Chats just starting to catch on i think, at least during aussie daylight hours Also i want to mention, the server currently does not require discord registration/signup to access for the time being, so, if you havent signed up at all, youll be allowed to use the chat immediately anyway on a temporary account that dissapears as soon as you close the browser tab.

    Mycology discord chat rooms

Here are 2 discord channels Shaman Australis unofficial discord server https://discord.gg/UYaH6QT TripTeam https://discord.gg/PUvEpH6 Despite the name is all mushroom discussion, again, edibles and actives, supposedly created by willymyco, theres a lot of users but most are beginners unlike in fungus amongus. the servers share about 60% of the same users. This server though features a fairly stocked "show and tell" channel with now thousands of grow pictures. In tripteam, experimental methods are more tolerated than on shroomery and fungus amongus, deviation from the teks and such, but accuracy of information is still very much moderated. For those unaware, discord is like IRC but you can upload photos like in Facebook or skype, and also everything is saved up to a point i think, so you can always check back on stuff. In my opinion its way better than IRC. It also features voice channels, and soon will apparently have features for live streaming or screen sharing (it was originally built for gaming).

Peroxide agar in kitchen tek- huge success!

I had a 110% success rate adding 2ml during the open air boil (in a flask tho) then 3ml (both instances 6%) right before pouring. By 110% i mean that it was so effective that a couple cultures didnt even grow, they got killed by the shock, though i later discovered my oyster was actually fast growing mold. My cubensis however grew really slow. but a couple covered the plate which was neat. I tried again without using a SAB for the pour, half contaminated by germinating and expanding from the sides of the lid. it wont germinate off the agar but it can still colonize it
  5. Discussion is mostly cultivation of mushrooms, so basically cubes, pan cyans, and talks about wild psilocybes, but most are knowledgeable about a great many non actives, and it usually comes up once a week or so. https://discord.gg/Qh2V2rK Its called fungus amongus Shaman Australis Botanicals discord https://discord.gg/UYaH6QT discussion of mushrooms, plants, etc, any kind, active or non active, edible, etc Also has a picture gallery like tripteam There is also a sister server called tripteam https://discord.gg/PUvEpH6 Despite the name its serious discussions almost entirely about cubensis and nothing else as most of the users there are just starting out, fungus amongus has more educated or serious members, they do however share about 50% of their users, but no more than that because tripteam is quite tolerant of innovation, improvisation, creativity and in general deviating from the teks. In other words its a less serious otherwise identical server. Both are active all the time with at least 2-3 users actively talking somewhere, and tripteams gallery is full of grow pics entirely by the members, nobody really chats on voice chat in either. Also users are from all corners of the world so, theres generally no sleep periods. In perticular theres a good handful of australian members (including myself) who came over from shaman australis forums, if anyone wants to ask about locating resources in australia. So far ive found nearly everyone in either server who is growing from grain is willing to give anyone else a free print now and again to help them get started, though trades are more common (for prints or anything except money) everyone is really helpful. since the start of the year both servers have only been getting more members. Theres no signup requirements and no nsfw stuff outside the nsfw channels, actually everyone is pretty well mannered, i dont think the mods have ever had to kick anyone.

Psilocybin Mushrooms of SE QLD, Australia

the trippers have begun picking here in central, i think we got a bunch of cinctulus, unless of course all the cyans got picked, i got to the spot the day after it was picked.
  9. not straw, mulch, as in partially composted leftovers that have been run through a sugar mill several times. How do i go about cold pasteurizing it for use as a substrate for oyster?
  10. i was referring to the chemical method, using hydrated lime and detergent, im not sure anyone actually uses pascalication for mycology. hydrated lime is only usable for substrates your going to spawn to heavily or colonize with very fast growing mushrooms like oyster because it causes a PH shock which only temporarily inhibits many microorganisms which arent outright killed.
  11. added a news and music channel, naturally also we got a voice and images channel already
  12. made a SAB discord now, discuss plants, mushrooms, cacti, whichever https://discord.gg/UYaH6QT
  13. if nobody else will, ill set up a SAB discord, what channels should it have?
  14. btw, to avoid further confusion, dont call this forum SAB, that acronym is reserved for still air box, call it SA forums, or shaman forums, everyone will know what your talking about. Also, theres been some talks about making a shaman australis discord server, if nobody else wants to, ill take it upon myself to make an unofficial server for this place
  15. anyone joining up should mention if they are comming from here, or if you are aussie, its nice to know how many fellow australians are in chat.
  16. Like it says, im looking to buy spores, cultures, liquid cultures, etc of anything edible and interesting

encryption wise, they are all the same. But fungus amongus is moderated more than tripteam so, no trolling or misinformation.

    Edible/Medicinal culture seeking thread

Anyone have some even dirty prints or cultures to sell/swap for/give away? im trying to expand my range of edibles. Im especially interested in pioppino and lionsmane, but some non-white or weird oysters would be great too. Im handy enough with agar ill eventually pull something clean off it, if its dirty, just needs to be viable
  19. I have some cubensis spore prints (for microscopy use only), strain "creeper" which i would like to trade for any edibles anyone has, make an offer. Doesnt have to be a clean print or culture, just viable/cleanable on agar. The mushrooms im mainly after is; pioppiono , aka black poplar (Agrocybe Aegerita) any oyster variety aside from white/tree oyster, pearl is acceptable. lionsmane nameko and really anything that is interesting/collectable, healthy, unique/good taste and doesnt only have to be grown out of the ground outside like morels. mushrooms im not interested in are white button and shiitake, but pretty much anything else ill probably want, especially if its fast colonizing/ easy to grow. cultures, spores, even a little baggie or dish with a little bit of grain spawn, im after anything like that, and again, doesnt have to be perfectly clean.

    Flow Hood construction

Heres the thing. Car blower fans almost always use shaft couplings with a wide tolerance, because they never rely on the actual shaft insert, as the shaft has a flat side. It uses that + a special clip that keeps it in place. What this means is you can easily substitute the motor for something like an RC outrunner like this https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobbyking-donkey-st4010-820kv-brushless-motor.html Something nice and slow, and worst case requires minimal machining. A car RC blower costs about $10-30 ive found today at the wreckers. Car blowers are actually rather slow, it seems. Theres probably other more suitable motors however. Otherwise you can always double up too, its cheap as hell.

    Flow Hood construction

You can get a nice cheap blower from the wreckers, from a car AC unit, just saw it off and clean it up, maybe spray paint some white enamel or something. Construct a "fluid manometer " basically a clear hose with water in it, to tune the pressure, or test the fan blows your desired pressure. as for a hepa source https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Air-Filter-Good-Quality-laminar-air_60179232439.html Shipping is about $20 for a single HEPA, and price is pretty constant per area, a 12x12" (30.5cm) x 9cm hepa costs about $30 or so, and one twice as wide in H14 will cost about twice as much. each grade you go up the cost seems to be minor. Also they take paypal.
  22. when i say bad luck i mean sometimes it works flawlessly, other times, horrible. Also i hate working in the SAB anyway Its little things that can spoil everything, like a little slip or wrong movement and bam, everything is doomed. I just really, really dont like the SAB. In a flowhood, im guaranteed a sterile environment, so as long as i follow common sense, like asuming anything certain things are potentially dirty, which are the only sources of contamination, then i should get by fairly contaminant free. Still though, im moreso interested in hearing if anyone else has had much success? -edit I discovered that the filter recommended has 2 flaws. 1. Low surface area; its a shallow filter so will clog quickly 2. its H13 at best, according to the efficiency ratings, probably less, this is barely, but still is, considered acceptable. So, a decent pre-filter is a MUST, but otherwise, theres no issue here, however i found i could get a 12x12" H14 hepa 9cm deep, for about the same price incl shipping. As for a fan, im going with a cars aircon fan, cheaper and way more powerful. And tunable too since its DC
  23. Im buying one of those hepa filters but ill use a different fan. I really hope this works. Im having terrible luck with my still air box. Anyone else build one with the linked filter and have good results?
  24. My dad picked a mystery chilli from the garden thinking it was a cayenne pepper, since it branches out the same bush, but the shape was much much shorter and rounder. I figured maybe he accidentally picked a ghost pepper since he doesnt really know much or remember much between times i show him whats what. Anyway, he mixed into the mince for stuffed capsicums, and it wound up being very hot, almost unpleasant. So he showed me and it looked like it could be a malformed ghost pepper (or naga morich, i dont really know since the seed tags dissapeared after planting since the plant temporarily died, lost track). I just went into the garden and the new branch on the cayenne pepper bush caught my eye, turned out it was actually a whole new chilli plant, but it didnt make sense the leaves were identical but the fruits stubbier. Further more, the fruits are much hotter than cayenne peppers and they smell of death and doom, they have that pungent melavolent aroma a freshly split ghost pepper has, in the body of a stubby cayenne. the ghost pepper is upwind so im wondering if its possible this is a cross pollenation gone very right, i understand doing it this way can take many generations to get traits to pass on and its often unsuccessful, but ghost peppers are a magnitude stronger and many more magnitudes hotter for their mass, as well so maintaining those attributes with an increase of flesh and fruit size overall, would result in a much hotter chilli technically not that far changed. Anyway, lining them up, it literally looks like a half way morph, note though the ghost pepper/naga morich in the photo is half as big as usual, i picked small ones to compare the smell and look. the plant looks exactly like cayenne, but the fruits like half way like a ghost pepper. Cross pollenation was a possibility given the vicinity, though technically so too was with a habanero and fatali im just realizing now. Anyway, is this a cross breed? or is it a normal cayenne with abnormal first fruits? the plant is very healthy and already quite large. the fruits are already on smaller ones much wider than the widest ones on the mother plant. its absolute that the plant is an offspring of the cayenne, that i am sure, given the location and all. Also i dont think at the time i ever had any similar chillis that could have been dormant until now
