    sick cactus

Second plant has scale too. Same treatment, Neem, Azamax, Spinosad etc.

    sick cactus

The original plant suffers from scale, which then again causes substantial scarring. Look into pesticides against Scale, e.g. Azamax or something similar.

    Tiny tricho flower

Hey mate, not sure what flower it is but it definitely isn't a Trichocereus flower. The whole flower development cycle on Trichocereus is totally different to that of the plants who have these flowers. It might be an aborted flower bud from a very early stage, but with how this looks it is honestly highly unlikely. It seems to sit on the areoles, but not in a natural way that flowers emerge from Trichocereus areoles. I am really sceptical of this, and I think it might've got stuck there by accident. But yeah, if this plant should flower at one point you know for sure. Do you have other pics of this clone? There are some cacti that flower like this, but they are other genera and this looks like Trichocereus bridgesii or something similar.

    PC Pach

These are PC by the way.

    PC Pach

Hey mate, there's all kinds of Trichocereus around and not all are PC. If in doubt just post them here and we're happy to help with the identification. Close up photos are important though. Blurry group pics are usually not good enough. Ps: no discussion about alkaloids please.

    Id please

First one is probably Neoraimondia herzogiana and the second one is Echinocactus grusonii. Definitely no Trichocereus, but nice plants. The Neoraimondia are just beautiful in Peru.

Hey mate, what error do you get?

    Alien Cactus

First one is a Myrtillocactus geometrizans and the second one is a Trichocereus terscheckii.

    Alien Cactus

Nope, it is definitely a Ferocactus. Google Images is a very bad tool to identify cacti. This rib structure is only present on Ferocactus and Gymnocalycium look totally different at this size.

Sorry, discussing ingestion of cacti isn't allowed here.

    Alien Cactus

It's a Ferocactus. Could be Ferocactus glaucus, but not entirely sure which one it is.

Hey mate, first one is Stenocereus pruinosus, second one is Myrtillocactus geometrizans.

    Bridgesii, qld winters and repotting

Dormancy is something that you get below 10° Celsius. Everything above isn´t really something I´d be worried about. The colder it gets, the slower these plants grow, but if your climate supports it you can still repot or root cuttings. Personally, I only use sand for rooting because it dries very fast and doesn´t cause problems with humidity below the cuts. If you have a rather organic soil, it will always trap humidity at the surface where your cut touches the soil. But yeah, other than this I wouldn´t worry a lot. Just make sure they stay dry and don´t get wet feet when it´s really cold.

    Is this a PC Pachanoi?

Hi Hendry, very, very likely a PC. Don´t think it´s a Scop because the ribs arent bloated enough, and the overall spination just doesnt fit either. This is very close to PC and it´s a very variable plant that can look just like this. Would keep an eye on it and post it again when it´s bigger. Never say never, but everything other than PC would be surprising.

    Huachuma - San Pedro Issue

Almost certainly chemical burns. Did you use fertilizer, pesticides, oil, alcohol or anything similar on this plant? I´ve only seen this damage from Chemicals and mostly from oils and Neem.

    Garden centre ID

Yeah, TBM, Pachycereus marginatus and Pilosocereus azureus.

    ID Please.

Hey mate, this is a Trichocereus hybrid. It´ll probably not be possible to identify the full parentage because there are just too many of them. The body looks like it involves Trichocereus schickendnatzii or Trichocereus bruchii. For example, the Trichocereus hybrids Märchenfee is very similar. There are many others too. Just one example. But yeah, beautiful flower and I also like the body.

    Trichocereus identification

There are definitely similarities to PC. Might very well be one, or offspring of it. The latter would be a lot more variable, which could explain the subtle differences to PC. That said, I would observe this clone over time and see how it develops. There are clones which appear to be PC at first, but eventually turn out normal Trichocereus pachanoi.
  20. Alright guys, just want to share tech that can be used to fertilize the flower of a cactus that usually needs pollen from another one to develope seed: 1. Get yourself some Cement from the DIY Store. Very fine pulver. The finer the better. But the typical Commercial grade works fine as well. 2. Get yourself a small brush and apply some of the cement dust on the Stigma of the flower on the plant that you want to produce seeds with. Also try to blow a little bit of the dust inside the flower. 3. Cement works as some kind of irritator what makes the flower create some Anti-Bodies that enable her to accept her own pollen. 4. Then wait for half an hour and brush some of the own pollen on the flower and repeat this numerous times. Now heres some additional info: Usually, there is only very few seed to be harvested but it works and the seeds are usually viable. The reason why this works is that cement consists of highly basic calciumsillicates that tremendeously raise the ph of the flower. Because there also are aminoclusters on a pollencorn that are also responsible for raising the ph, the cement has the very same effect. Because of his highly basic potential, cement is even way more effective. Basic niveau reduces the ability of the flower to abort the pollen so it accepts it. IT ALSO ENABLES YOU TO CROSS CACTI THAT ARE INCOMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER! Like LOPHOPHORA x GYMNOCALYCIUM, MAMMILLARIA, TURBINICARPUS ETC. Its not guaranteed that it works all the time and you have to experiment a lot but i know that it worked in some cases. Another Advantage is that genetecially, defects will be passed down to the offspring so this would be very interesting for pollen from Cristates and other mutants. But in some cases, plants can be weak or not healthy and may need additional generations of breeding in other cacti. The produced Offspring thats created with this tech is not to be seen as clones as there is a recombination of DNA going on, what enables them to cross them in with the motherplant as well. Alright guys, this is no bullshit, its working so use this info to your Advantage and create some fucking freaks. ;) EDIT: I think this Post about encluding electricity is pretty much related so i wanted to merge it with this one but it would be too messy so i just add a link to the Topic. Its called Intergeneric Breeding with Electricity http://shaman-austra...showtopic=30745

The Great Global Warming/Cooling Thread Part 2

Alright, this is it! We do not tolerate such insults and I´ve removed a few posts in this thread. We´ll discuss this internally among the mod team and it´s possible that there will be additional warning points for one particular post that we find really appalling. I have no problem with people disagreeing, even if it´s vehemently and passionately, but this was just over the line. Consider this a courtesy warning, but if we see something like this again we´re instantly done talking. And again, we´ll still have to discuss this internally and there may very well be already consequences. This kind of hate speech is just the lowest form of conversation and we want no part in this. If you can´t disagree respectfully, you better do not post at all. We´re better than this.

    The Sowing Out Thread

Hi Guys! I just realised that i enjoy reading about which cactus seeds other people are sowing out! How about we use this Thread to journalize the seeds that we plant out! Pics are always welcome! It would be also very cool if we could pin the thread! Ok, i´ll start! This week i planted some Seeds from Knize! These are the few seeds that i received from my big Knize order! As mentioned before, the rest didnt arrive! I decided that its time to plant them now because they have such a shitty viability anyways and i didnt want to wait even longer! I planted out: 919 Trichocereus Bridgesii 920 Trichocereus Bridgesii 1688 Trichocereus Peruvianus 338 trichocereus Peruvianus 242 trichocereus Peruvianus 2151 Trichocereus Peruvianus 2152 Trichocereus Peruvianus 2147 Trichocereus Peruvianus 923 Trichocereus Macrogonus 1422 Trichocereus Macrogonus 2150 trichocereus Pachanoi 339 Trichocereus Pachanoi 1421 Trichocereus Cephalomacrostibas Now its one week after i sown out and its like i expected! The only 2 type of seeds that showed germinations are KK919 and KK920! Both are Trichocereus Bridgesii! Seems like the Bridgesii stay viable longer! Or they are just fresher! I will update later! bye Eg
  23. At that size, qualified identification is rather pointless. Some strains only show their typical traits later on, and it´s just very prone to error commenting at that size. Most of what you got there probably belongs to T. pachanoi and I also think there´s some PC in between, but you will need to grow them out before we can say anything reliable.

    Gymnocalycium hybridization

There are quite a few hybrids involving Gymnocalycium and IIRC I posted some photos some years ago. Definitely an interesting subject and there´s huge potential in that genus. It takes a few worldclass breeders that just spend a decade improving on the quality of the flowers. I am sure we´ll see a lot more of them in the future. I personally gave away all my Gymnocalycium because I had to focus on the genera that interest me more, but they are fantastic and I still appreciate seeing them. Here´s an example from the internet.

    Macro or pachanoi?

Looks like the PC clone, which is one of the most common Trichocereus clones in some parts of the world.
