Good luck with them mate, I notice in your photo your containers have coloured lids & are stacked on each other, is this how you normally germinate your seeds? I would of thought this would greatly reduce light & have never tried, I would be keen to hear your success rates. Cheers Jox

    Soaking Seeds

I once left some mashed up fruit from a Cereus in a cup of water, the seed started germinating after a few weeks & kept growing while floating around in the cup for an other two weeks. I just poured them out into a pot after that & cover with some soil, some of these are still growing. It was never my plan to germinate seeds this way, to be honest I had just forgot about them as I had so many Cereus seeds. Cheers Jox

se QLD and Nrth NSW meet ups

I am very keen for a gc meet, There are some nice spots at the comera river with electric bbq's that don't get to busy, I don't mind really & can travel. I seems that Sundays would be best for most but I won't have a free Sunday until the 27/4. If others are keen for a meet up on this date then count me in . Cheers Jox

Good vs shit store potting mixes?

^^LOL, I am renting & am hoping to renew my lease at the end of the month just so I don't have to move all my plants & the pallets of potting mix . I have about four pallets of cacti mix that have been kept dry undercover & are still like new & about one & a half pallets of cacti mix that has been out in the weather, these weathered ones would be great for someone who owns a house & wants to build a raised cactus garden. Cheers Jox

Good vs shit store potting mixes?

Yeah mate, they were selling a pallet at a time (pick up only) so I bought one they rang them at the debco office & offered them a price to take the lot ( about eight pallets), they said no but a week later rang me back & said I could buy them as long as I took everything & they were gone by the weekend . The story was Bunnings had ordered them up from Melbourne & they were waiting at a holding yard near Brisbane, Bunnings found out Debco were selling potting mix to Masters & cancelled there order. Debco thought it would be cheaper to sell it off than ship it back, the best part it was costing Debco to hold it at the yard near Brisbane so they told me if I wanted the cacti mix I had to take eight other pallets as well, these contained bonsai mix, azalea mix & premium potting mix which were free . Mind you I had to hire a truck to pick it all up & drop it at mine. Cheers Jox

    Rooting a single bromeliad "leaf"

EthnoGuy beat me to it, I would agree with everything he said. It looks like S. trifasciata, common name Mother in-laws tongue. Be careful if you plant it out in the garden as it can spread like crazy. Cheers Jox
  11. Hey mate, I have some fresh luffa seeds I can send you. I have grown some big ones this year. Cheers Jox

  16. Hey RC they were with in a few 100 meters of each other , I looked at your other post & saw you are new to picking up here, you seem to have found a nice local for blue meanies . I also saw some saying you might of had a mixed bag, I can tell you today I found three different Panaeolus sp growing out of cow shit, one was more red than the other two it did not stain blue & was easy to tell apart but the other two looked very similar & were growing only meters apart, the only way I could tell them apart was to wait for the P.cyans to stain blue. Cheers Jox
  17. Went walking today, picked up 30grams P. cyans & found my first few cubes for the season, only about 5grams. there were a lot of cube pins forming but if there is no more rain they will abort . Cubes Cyans Happy hunting everyone. Cheers Jox

    pere graft question

No worries mate, I took my kids to the doctors a few months ago with "suspected" chickenpox's & they put us in the back room to wait, lucky for me the back room was the store room & there was a box sitting open with 100's of disposable scalpels so I borrowed a hand full . These are great for chopping up seedlings but are little use at cutting into thick stock. Maybe you can buy scalpels from a medical supply somewhere? I think you will also need a good knife for bigger cuts. If you find a knife that is very sharp & comfortable to hold & use it will come in handy, the secrete is cleanliness, making sure your blade is kept sterile. Cheers Jox

    pere graft question

Hey mate, My answer would be ether or. I have had success grafting onto freshly cut peres & rooted peres, I have also had failures with both. The main things would be to use stock with fresh growth & get your alinement perfect. Good luck & remember the more grafts you try the better the success rate gets. Cheers Jox

    Terscheckii hybrids?

Here are some Terscheckii hybrids, These are T.terscheckii X T. pachanoi 'Huarazensis' & are just over three years old, been growing very slowly but are finally starting to show some growth & getting some nice spines. One of them is looking a bit different than the other two. Cheers Jox

  24. I was just trying to point out, that things can go wrong, lighter get wet/run out of gas electronic devices brake loss signal, water bladder tears etc. If these things happen would you know how to find water, find your way out, be able to keep warm. This was never trolling or being a smart ass, I have followed your post from the start & don't think you grasp that people are trying to help. I don't need to be corrected & never asked for your forgiveness. My points are very valid for people planning to spend time in the bush!! You can thank me latter.
