    earthcore 06

good question i think it wold be a good transitional experience half of last eartcore qld was just mainstream gloss yeah yeah kinda fun but not all it can be however there came a point :D then came happy exhaustion and just in time for a mellow mid morning set by shpongle amidst the glades go. its hard to know whne a party will be transcendental and when it will disappoint part of it is you and your attitude, part of it is everyone else. eiether way what you choose to feel is what makes it or breaks it when it works its extraordinary see whoevers going at earthcore Qld december 1-3 dont worry if im incomprehensible. thats a given

  3. There certainly are areas that need depopulating out there but if they move to the overcrowded cities how will that help? The very last people who should be bashing farmers though are propped up urbanites whoes involvemnet in domestic service industries actually contributes nothing to the GDP yet get all the tax funded services Im not against drought relief it should be bigger but should have more strings i mean if you cant plant wheat that year you should get assistance and debt relief - as food production is a measure of national security but it should be tied to a 'mutual obligation' of compulsory landcare targets if you cant plant wheat you should be removing weeds, fencing off creeklines, gullys and scalds etc. and preparing ground for windbreaks and shelterbelts we need people out there to look afte this large continent. if we desert it, the goats, weeds and other ferals will destroy it entirely

    normal pumpkins?

Darklight your pain is to do with the generic use of 'pumpkin' there are 3 major types in Australia C maxima - blues, pinks, ironbarks dry fleshed long keepers Round stems and petioles large fat seeds have a paper husk examples Qld or beausdesert blue, ironbark, jarrahdale these are the true pumpkins of Oz get seeds from inland SE qld ie beaudesert (darker with more ribs) or just from yates- they keep a good qld blue. Jarrahdale is a WA heritage variety maximas will not cross with the grammas! so if you desire you can grow both. if qld blue is too big for ya go to a rural store and get "baby blue' its a small version of qld blue - better for todays smaller households. C moschata - Grammas, Japs, butternuts sweeter thinner skinned 5 angled stems and petioles white blotches on leaves flat rough seed with rim Grammas are traditionally used for pie. only recently with the japs becoming popular have they shifted to the eat fresh section C pepo - summer squash, golden nugget, zuchetta, zuchinni, ornamnetal gourds similar to above. all but worthless as pumpkins so ill say no more

    normal pumpkins?

just order them in pumpkin seed and most veggie seed you can order from US seed suppliers no problem at all I do for example i just bypassed aussie retailers to get my gourd seed from the US dippers, cannon balls, bottles, eggs spoons you name it better variety and 1/3 the price! so try a few veg laces great varieties all the new one eden and others have in now are the ones ive been getting in for a couple years now from the US- the same sources they get their from now! go to the source i think i went here one time http://www.felcopruners.net/ personally i havent found a o/s pumpkin that beats an aussie one to eat in the styles we do Jap (kent), qld/beaudesert blue, jarrahdale and ironbark are the best roasting and soup pumpkins but the yanks have the better (summer ) squash and carving pumpkins and the italians the best zuchinnis and the mexicans use the seeds more than the flesh i have seeds of a US white pumpkin called cotton candy interesting but not much chop to eat - but then i guess its not meant for that i recommend importing some new varieties so much has been lost in australia and whilst seed saver networks do a great job there is so much missing! the seedsaving heirloom biz is so much more advanced in the US check out the felcopruners winter squash (pumpkin) and tomato section and thats just 2 sections of 1 company!

    Best Fruit Varieties-Gardening Practices

You can grow almost anything in coastal influenced NSW ive found working backwards works very well if you want to meet your needs then know your needs first do you like brazil cherries? i dont but i love avocadoes also think of how you will cook all the produce. for exampel a thai garden is an excellent investment lemon grass chillies ginger turmeric galangal (grafted) thai eggplant (grafted - trifolata) Kaffir lime Coriander very compact but will supply you with deliecious food likewise research what you need to make good mexican food, or mediterranean - or whatever whereas unless you want to raise rabbits be wary of filling your space with arrowroot and leucaena spend time buying and eating wierd things before you plant too many as you have limited room make sure you get ur citrus on flying dragon rootstock so they are dwarf trees u can get dwarf avocado, mango and mulberry as well And beware of taking most permaculture experts serioousl - theyl load u up with lots of shite plants youll never use!

    Good old Racism

Yeah we need to sort this native title thing asap and somehow make it merge into the realm of regular property and inheritance or trusts etc ie tribes become like family trusts based on inheritance with lands held as freehold - at least then aboriginal groups can have the freedom to buy more, sell off or even relocate! Tribal boundaries were always dynamic! setting them in stone is not a realistic expectationl or native title access granted to community groups/clubs when needed under the same legal framework as any other entity - like a fishing lease, or water rights. i do worry about the exclusions to the racial discrimination act that allow discrimination in favour of aboriginal people, and its open ended with no sunset clause, and no mechanisms to tell us if we are suceeding in levellinbg the playing field. we need to be acting like it wont be needed forever because if it is then our society has failed reconciliation. i dont think there can be 'good' racism, anymore than there ca be good wars, lies, torture or slavery, even when it has good intent it will always backfire because racism is an inherently malevolent ideology

    Eileen Cuttings

well, me, eventually but my priorities lie in servicing my collection and breeding efforts first and foremost That is id rather be first to offer seed and seedlings of Eileen x ecuador , Ecuador x juuls giant, or Eileen x SA scop etc when it comes to trich breeding the generation interval is so long, its like having children! im sure itll be a lifelong journey as the seed i grow now may not begin to flower for 15 years, but the fruits may bear for 10 000 years+! so what could be more worthwhile purpose for a fleeting human life? only the extras get sold and there wont be extras for a couple seasons yet. youd have to search elsewhere till then what im wondering is, like with eds massive original eileen, whos got the motherload of these others well actually i know who has some but im not going to dob them in i think id better start a new thread this evening with some pictures to see if we can cross match clones anyone and everyone is welcome to pitch in pictures of the most desirable clones

    papaver somniferum potency.

all states ive been in not as common as they once were but still about quite abundant in SE qld in particular there are significant differences in the seed colours of diff batches , from pure white/cream, through various proportions of red, brown and black seeds in the mix. side by side diff seed btaches are very obviously from diff sources / varieties A book on the matter indicates that india has many many landraces and varieties of poppy from which seed and opium are collected. No doubt with enough sampling youll get many of them some are better for opium and others for seed, but seed is collected from all as part of the harvest and woudl enter the marketplace The FOAF tells me they have grown out several flower types too pure whites, single ruffles, and this two tone pink one. Remember India and Turkey produce 80% of the worlds legal opium you used to be able to buy turkish seed too - it was blue grey but i havent seen that in years now i gues the whites might slip by in mixed shipmnets unnoticed or ignored??? just like Ephedra sinesisis still makes it to chinese herbalists personally my fave use for poppy seed is to roll salmon cutlets in before pan frying and dressing with the juice of a fresh sweet orange

    I like this "Los Gentiles"

Lol Michael I know what you meant. and i think the question is/was valid i just cant be arsed asking such questions i satisfy myself with the fact they had to write something to differentiate it, so they wrote that its obviously a sales ploy. but im not that bothered by it cos its not overly dishonest ...just irrelevant for all the reasons already brought forward its a moot point. untestable and ultimately irrelevant cos everytime you plant a trich seed you have a new hybrid of greater or lesser degree - as they are all outcrossers - and therefore we reset the cultivation date to year Zero! and though these vendors are said to be somehwat more 'ethical' than others , they are a business so we have to cut them some slack/poetic licence and use our critical thinking abilities to sift shit from sand. as for the rest of the thread - LOL i have a homer simpson style 'Gloss over' function when stuff gets argumentative. lets not worry about it too much fellas i think you were both correct in your initial appraisals - and not at all in conflict at least not really on this issue At least i hope we can all agree that you dont have to agree with someone to like them if you choose to disagree in good humour and mutual respect !

    Lophophora available!!!!

anyone from melbourne with tangible links to mexicalli anyway lets all give it time Mexicalli has left a bad taste in the mouth of many its bound to happen sooner or later most people here come looking for something and stay for the love of the people and the plants some do make an income from it too. Ive never seen that as a problem - obviously cos i do it too but i know my priorites are for the love of the plants and collecting them first and selling them is a far second Mex was our first major imposter. here to exploit a market first, and with no real interest or respect for us beyond being customers or for why most of us are interested in the plants appearing suddenly, doing a brisk trade, and then acting dishonourably and employing standover tactics to secure a market monopoly incl threatening to involve the fuzz as a scare tactic. Without getting into a debate on what exactly our 'community values' are - i think its safe to say that this behaviour contravenes what would be considered 'decent'. im not against selling lophs. ill trade a few myself in future as i know people want them and i love making them. but honestly ill caution you that you are always better off with seed! it takes longer but youll learn more and its much cheaper try www.earthalchemy.net. I get my seed there and all recent batches hae been excellent

Sorry to hijack the thread too Eileen must be the most famous named Aust clone around these parts but shes not the only extra special one i am aware of What about that 150g South aussie spined scop getting around or that <20cm ecuadorian pachanoi or the 50g bridge! i have heard of these, i have some, maybe even all? (matching synonymous clones from diff trades and tracking the p2p dispersal history takes some time and luck) To my knowledge there are at least 4 well known and traded 'super' clones around , and no doubt more unknown and undiscovered, or just closeted BTW i mean super like eileen - in the same way shes is an allround desirable cactus i certainly know im loathe to cut my eileens now. they look so good and i know if i cut too much they wont reach flowering size as fast! and thus i wont be able to make those superhybrids i dream of

    loph damage

None of this is unusual at least with teh peres damge you will quickly get muliple heads - so no loss at all several birds attack cacti like that sometimes the chuffs, or kookaburra or others dont know if its for grubs or because they are bored. either is possible if the bollworm is hammering your cacti remove long grass and weeds nearby and coat the tip with derris dust (rotenone)

    papaver somniferum potency.

A FOAF told me about the bulk seed packs available *still* from indian food wholesalers less than $3 for big packs. all viable white seed with odd brown and red seeds light green plants with these sorts of flowers latex pink straight after petal drop, white and copious thereafter latex eaten straight off 2 pods was noticeably euphoric thats all details shared. at least peeps arent lmited to modern 'norman' strain tassie seeds

    911 Eyewitness

yes humanity is always changing. i think 911 was a setup but what does it matter. the real tragedy is that no-one is accountable and they know it but i do think bush and all these really self destructive types are fantastic for humanity in the longer term 'good' presidents like clinton brought slow death, the world as it was mightve dragged on for decades while bush is bringing it all forward his and his contemporaries self destructiveness is our salvation dont know about you but i welcome global catastrophe. i welcome its novelty and the reemergence of an unchartered future. More of the same would be Hell on earth

So is there a hurry to use it? an expiry date? its good to have it there though whats been said is true we are only a small community. saturation is easy enough of supply and demand it needs promoting offsite to internationals i mean ebay is frikkin huge by comparison. and there i only buy non eb stuff anyway eg. alpaca jumpers ,wierd pineapple species and relatives,Murakami art, Huichol bead masks, Evangelion Hentai dolls LOL stuff i doubt any member could supply seems to me the eb market is too saturated already to rapidly respond like it once did i think its a good thing in general but not good for swap n sell
