Hello, I am trying to repot mimosa hostilis in a clay based soil. The problem is I need to improve drainage in the clay soil, as the drainage is poor. Should I add gypsum? Would adding forest mulch or other organic matter help, without causing any problems with toxicity, like in acacia's with phosporus? What other thing's can be added to improve the soil (sand)?

I have a 70cm acacia acuminata growing in a smallish pot. Some of the phyllodes are starting to turn yellow at the tips. I've had a similar plant already turn yellow. What could cause this? What can I do to remedy this?

Hello, I was planning to use an oak barrel as a planter. I am concerned about rot. Would it be wise to use any preserving oils on the inside? I have been told that linseed oil is effective

Acacia Acuminata Transplantation
subaer replied to Alienteaparty's topic in Australian Native Plants
I was wondering I have this obtusifolia seedling here http://i40.tinypic.com/4vijr5.jpg The soil depth is 11 cm currently, it was a bit low as my expectations were uncertain. The pot width is 14 cm. When would be the best time to tranplant it an area with far more depth, and would it be safe to do so provided it is done in the shade, cooler conditions etc, and obviously being careful with its taproot and surrounding roots -

if I plant an acacia into a wine barrel would I need to untangle its root system or leave it as a root ball as it isnt going into the ground? Also, When is the best time of the year to transplant acacias in particular? -
PM'ed, very keen to have a go at this variety
