Icaros - Magical Songs from Peru takes us on a journey deep into the heart of the Amazonian rainforest, travelling with Liz Thompson and Simon Green to meet shamanic healers or 'curanderos' as they generously share their 'icaros' or magical songs. Icaros have been used for millennia to cure and to curse, to hunt and to heal, to mediate between the world of the spirits and the world of humans. They are sung to this day for a multitude of purposes, and often in ceremony, to call in protective spirits, cure illness, activate the healing properties of medicinal plants, attract lovers, call spirits of the dead and alter the weather or, on occasion, for the more malicious purpose of brujeria (sorcery). Curandero Don Juan tells of icaros used to heal babies within the field of shamanic pediatrics. 'There are' he says, 'pediatric icaros, surgical icaros, dental icaros .... all icaros have a specific healing function or purpose. In the same way that allopathic medicine is specialised, so too is the science of icaros'. The songs might be taught by an elder 'shaman', but most often they come to the curandero from the spirit realm. Shamanic cosmology is grounded in a belief that plants have consciousness and particular knowledge they are able to communicate. 'I work with the vibration of the icaro , vibrate the sounds, that's where the energy is , it's in the vibration', says Mestizo curandero Don Lucho, 'When I'm in a trance, when I'm with the plant in trance, then I have this energy, this power, which is an exchange of energies between myself and the plant'. Whilst many icaros come from the plants, curanderos tell of songs received from mermaids and dolphins, from the rain mother, the animals, the snakes, the rivers and stars, in dreams or the waking state. These remarkable melodies have been woven into a compelling soundscape, an aural journey into the realms inhabited by the practitioners of this ancient art. Thanks go to Justin Touyz, Carlos Tanner and all the curanderos who shared their songs and knowledge for the creation of this program. Featuring curanderos Luis Culquiton, Guillermo Arevalo, Juan Tangoa Paima and Doña Otilia. Readers: Marcelo Ovington, Patricio Rodriguez, Matias James Stevens and Lucia Mastrantone. Translations by Justin Touyz. Texts by Stephan Bayer from his blog http://www.singingtotheplants.com/blog/. Written, narrated and produced by Liz Thompson and Simon Green. Sound engineer Judy Rapley. have wondered if 'painted caapi' was a variegated plant. saw one recently and that seems reasonable to me. was told that the effects of smoked leaf were different to usual.an oily creamyness to flavour with very bright long lasting visual effect[oev]. t s t . are variegated caapi plants very common? was told the leaves could come out green and get variegated later.

you may recall a one off report of smoking 2 whole fronds of cebil giving what seemed a fuzzy 5meo effect. i came across another report of good effects from less than this amt. a few years back guruna[sp?] nursery was offering colubrina plants.they were different from cebil. after half a frond produced clear spice type effects a closer look was had at the plant. small spines only a few mils had recently formed on a plant a little over half a metre high. t s t .

imho opinion this is an entheogenic quality product but i'll leave it to ph to move this thread. new to my tobacconist,an additive free rolling tobacco from germany. virtually 100% leaf ,even virtually free of midrib. looking further it does say chemical additive free. 'like preservatives, humectant agents or synthetic flavours' it seems totally additive free to me. comes in a mild or normal strength. i have the latter. all my friends love it. it is tobacco i can feel and it feels real good.a nice glow....even in my lungs!a feeling of goodness!i dont usually get much from commercial tobacco. have only had 'american spirit' in tailor form, this is similar but better. a bit dry,cos no additives. i paid about $22 for 35grams. if you are going to smoke, smoke the good stuff..... t s t .
