been grafted a few months I have the date written down but not here. There is a bit of weirdness in this cross a fair bit of variegation in this particular seed batch, still a little small to tell if there is a lot of monstrose growth. I haven't really checked on them for a while will have a look today.

here's an update on the (sso2 x sso1)x (sso2 x sso1) seedling. Heavily variegated still looking to be monstrose in some way. This seedling never had a singular growth point. Its a very slow grower kind of driving me crazy because the bigger it gets the more yellow its becoming.

28th October I have removed the roots from the vine around the fruit in case it does get big, apparently the can snap the pumpkin off.
-
To get these plants to grow really big fruit you need to bury the vine as it grows to increase root mass. If you grow in a pot try and maybe set pots under each node and hook up an irrigation system, I reckon a hydroponics pumpkin could conceivably get very large in a very small space assuming it was given depth in pots for root development..

I have some seeds if you want to put some more down, I can't guarantee that they will grow super tall. But they came from a reputable supplier pm me and I will send you some on Monday. Ceres its not that I am a good gardener its just that I live in a place where things want to grow, I'm just putting them in the dirt.
-
were you feeding it any specific fertilisers? I was reading a bit about giant sunflowers, apparently they can be tricky thing to get big. High nitrogen all the way and a lot of water.
-
25th October could be set fruit here will know in ten days apparently.
-
mitre ten kids giant pumpkin comp. I read about this on the growing giant pumpkins NZ website.
-
I'm interested red.
-
Full moon was Friday I think. I always spin a bit on a full moon.
-
what did the seeds look like? Giants are striped generally. Sometimes its the time of year they are grown too. I by from Atlantic pumpkin seeds Australia. So far I have been very happy with the quality of what they sell.

First flower hand pollinated October 22. dunno if it will take. flower is 3.1 metres from the stump on the main vine. There aer little female flowers forming on most of the other vines but I will probably only try and set 1 more on the same vine this one is on and see which grows the fastest. get rid of the smallest down the track.
-
yeah I think bats eat them,
-
some of mine are starting to flower. if I get any seed this year I'll send you some.
-
21st October got my shade clothe cover for the female flower. This first female flower looks a bit shit (is spotty?) so it may terminate I reckon.
-
yeah water early for me and if I water in the arvo only into the ground not on the leaves.

The Japanese have a technique were they cut the tap root. and sit them in updside down pots until they root. Hanazono had a write up about it I think its on this page? http://frank-southofaridland.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/cactus-hanazono-kabuto.html
-
we had a bit of rain here today so that will help the big bugger root down its vines. If the kids don't wreck it I reckon it will go alright.
-
This one looks like it might crest

the line may be a by product of grafting I am not sure? Its weird but. These pupped very early I think peres may not be ideal for them as most of the big astro growers use dragon fruit or similar. I have some freaks amongst my Super Kabuto hybrids Not sure if this is due to the grafting of genetic this first one is really twisted, it doesn't seem to have a growth point at all. Its ugly lol. I'm hoping it will flower sometime next year and I can cross it back with the Super kabuto I have.
-
Hey Jox some updates of a couple of the Astrophytum myriostigma seed you gave me. They are still really small it appears most astros don't like peres as a stocjk that much. Check out the bars of colour they are getting, would be cool if it stayed in them as they matured. I have one 4 rib only 4 ribs so far not sure if it will develop another.

I have two female flowers on probably won't open for a few days I would think. Will attempt to pollinate both and probably keep the fastest growing pumpkin as the comp one....thats the plan lol

Nitrogen´s Connoisseur hybrids - pics and seed giveaway
Stillman replied to nitrogen's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I grafted about 30 (SS02 x pachanoi) x TPC All took then I had a slug out break from contaminated soil and I am left with 4. One looks like melted wax type mutation. The others seem "normal".
