Mites are bad news and hard to eradicate completely - they return unless you keep up with the spraying . They were devastating for my young psychotrias , however , I tried Confidor spray which fucked them for a while , but they returned . Mites appear to become resistant to some less toxic sprays , and I was told to alternate with different sprays . Eventually I tried some Confidor tablets that you put in the soil [ sistemic ] that I found in Woolies . These work great , and no sign of any bugs the past two months . Only problem with these is they last so long , and have a long withholding period , but they are saving my small plants and I will stick with them until the plants are bigger , and better able to handle bugs . But I would not consume any produce until the bugs are back . I am more concerned for the health of the plants at present , rather than harvesting them atm , so the tabs suit my needs well because I am slack with regular spraying ... .. btw , it is okay to spray lophs with pyrethrin , but trichs are sensitive to it and can burn . I have a cacti book that advises to spray trichs shortly after with fresh water if spraying them with pyrethrin , but it won't hurt them in the soil . Apparently mites do not become resistant to pyrethrin , but you have to keep it up on a regular basis - some always survive , and they bust out again before long ..

16 year old is brain damaged from smoking "synthetic marijuana"

I doubt that these MANUFACTURED [ as opposed to bio-synthesis in the natural plant product ] pseudo cannabinoids [ and RCs ] have been clinically tested like all other medicinal - type compounds destined for human consumption . The actual molecular structure of this stuff bears no resemblance whatsoever to cannabinoids . The creeps peddling this garbage are able to do because of " not for consumption " disclaimers , and calling it " incense " , " fertilizer " , ' bath salts " , etc . . Perhaps tragedies such as this like this might be avoided if the drug laws were not so ludicrous and ineffective . After all , genuine cannabis has been used for thousands of years , and I am not aware of any serious or permanent problems caused by its use in moderation .... -
Many of the above posts have missed the point of the report . This disgusting company has been contravening food safety laws , and selling a contaminated product , and then caught out lying about it with their denials .

I have seen reports on " Landline " and elsewhere that the problem of increasing soil salinity is a result of rising ground-water levels , which bring brackish / salty water close to the surface where evaporation increases the salinity . It was reported that before invasion / colonisation / farming and land clearing , the ground water levels were much lower than they are today because the original native trees and vegetation transpired much groundwater , creating the lower water levels . Furthermore , irrigation is said to exacerbate the high levels of groundwater and salinty . . . Whenever I travel by air between Brisbane - Sydney - Melbourne - Adelaide I am astonished , appalled and saddened at the extent of the cleared bush land below . It seems that apart from a few mountainous regions , virtually all of S.E . Australia is paddocks and farm land . I am wondering now that if the de-foliation of Australia , and the rising groundwaters , are exacerbating the recent floods to any significant extent ??? ... Any ideas and / or opinions ??

Best crops for survival gardening
Heretic replied to nano's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
I once knew a guy in Darwin who was a kind of hermit - survivalist , who had a camp beside a creek on the edge of the mangroves . He had been sowing and harvesting some type of yam he was very enthusiastic about - I think he called it a " winged bean " because of the seed , but he had been harvesting and eating the tubers . Once established his plants grew without watering . I think aboriginal people also value this plant as a food source .... btw , Prickly Pear was a huge problem in Australia earlier last century , decimating huge areas of farmland , esp in Qld . I'm not certain of this , but seem to recall that all Opuntias are now prohibited in Qld . Anyway , P P eradication is one of the few successful biological pest control attempts - achieved by introducing an insect called " Cactoblasti " . [ wish they could find similar to eradicate cane toads ] . -
I unintentionally gave away the high -sugar drinks by starting to drink Sal Vital [ not exceeding recommendations ] , very diluted cordial , or plain water [ sometimes with a squeeze of lemon ] when thirsty . I had found that soft drinks were not thirst quenching at all , and the more I drank , the more I needed more ....Nevertheless , I still have a weakness for ginger beer , which has much sugar ...

Super Mega High Vitamin C - Terminalia ferdinandiana
Heretic replied to PositiveHAL's topic in Australian Native Plants
Very common tree around Darwin and some northern coastal areas , but imo unlikely to grow well [ or at all ] in cooler climates . About 10 -15 years ago there was much interest in this species , and it was being made into a jam by a native bush food company . [ at the time the jam was available from the Parap [ Darwin suburb ] supermaket - deli , and specialty food shops down south .] . The small green fruits are quite hard , and mostly seed , fairly tasteless but not inedible . I believe that aboriginal people ate / eat them . I am unsure if the jam is still being produced , but if so it should be in southern gourmet - deli type shops , and possibly the easiest way to sample the " billy goat plum " . [ It was re-named the " Kakadu Plum " presumably for marketing purposes ; perhaps to sound better than the " Billy goat Plum " . ] . -

Biological controls for spider mites
Heretic replied to DarkSpark's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
I am at war also with the bastards . I was told to collect ladybugs , and spray them with Coke or sugar water so they can't fly away , and release them on the infected plants . Lots of lady bugs atm on some badly chewed weeds nearby , so will give it a try ... however , I once asked the local nursery about ladybugs , and was told they won't work [ he tried to sell me something to spray - but I am a slack slob , and prefer the idea of lady bugs to regular spraying . The nursery guy mentioned " predator mites " also ]. I want to go away for a month or two soon , and want to find something to control the mites while not around ... -
I truly sympathize - my grandparents were farmers [ cattle not grains ] ; and often in despair and debt ; but there were some good years also , although not enough . Canola seems to be increasing in popularity , which may affect the prices negatively if too many bumper crops ensue . I'm guessing the Monsanto GM glyphosate resistant variety will have to be increasingly used nowadays - seems as if , as always , farmers are caught between a rock and a hard place , so to speak . I often don't realise how lucky I am at times , not to have such hassles ....

Mixed species stranding certainly indicates that something is seriously amiss . For decades we have been fed the [ bullshit , imo ] line that it is natural phenomena . Then told of the possibility of submarine sonar might be screwing up their sense of navigation ; or they become disorientated by storms , etc . These creatures are known to have acutely sensitive sonar and hearing . As I understand noise and / or vibrations can carry much further in water than on land . I also believe that oil and gas exploration use under sea bed seismic explosions , and clearly this is an area that needs more independent study to determine the impact it has on marine creatures . [ I would also like to know if such stranding has been occurring in the distant past , before sonar / seismic activity and in periods of geological stability ]

Transcendent Compounds - Hunger Strike for Religious and Spiritual Freedom - 2012
Heretic replied to GregKasarik's topic in News & Notices
I sincerely wish you success Greg , for the prohibition is wrong , and not only for religious reasons . Please be careful with this for health reasons . Perhaps consider Psylo's suggestion of glucose [ and maybe other ] supplements , because [ as I understand ] cognitive impairment can result from such actions . Others will disagree , but I believe you ought to consider some fruit juices if totally forsaking substantial foods . I personally do not feel that to do so would detract from your intent .- 184 replies

I worry about total extinction of all life on this planet if something really fucks up - so far we've been " lucky " : 3 Mile Island , Chernobyl , and the recent Japanese disaster , etc , could all have been much worse . I believe that we ought be searching for more sustainable and safer alternatives , even if they cost us more . Nothing , imo , is worth taking the risk of possible extinction of all life on Earth .

Hi Amz - I really admire your art indeed . Should you ever decide to take on " jobs " , I would very like to place an order for a simple pendant inscribed with a Celtic rune , as a gift for a friend .... [ please PM one day should it ever become possible ] -
Long ago when I was a kid , many mothers and grandmas had a " ginger beer plant " in their kitchen , often on top of the fridge , in a large jar from which the ginger beer was regularly decanted off . I recall that these " plants " were fed something ; sugar , I imagine . They would go all summer , and keep families supplied with superb ginger beer . But that is all I remember . Does anyone know of this recipe , or what this " plant " is ?

The Nazis were pretty much in universal agreement - [ dissent was not permitted ] . Saddam , Gadaffi , Syria , etc , despised dissent . So also Putin's regime [ eg , Pussy Riot ] ..... etc , etc , : " omnipresent bliss " ???

would not the world be so utterly mundane and boring if we were all in agreement on anything and everything ?

Btw , I support MAPS [ but not reptyle's dream ] . MAPS membership can be had for as little as a $ 20 contribution . I would urge reptyle and others to consider a donation to that most worthy organisation ... [ I do , however , doubt DMT" s usefulness as a therapeutic psychedelic under any form of administration , even ayahuasca - because of the intensity of the "purge" could be too much for many people ] .
