Shark Attacks - why so many in recent times ?

I wonder if it may be a result of us harvesting too many fish ? . Is there less of their normal food about ?

Shark Attacks - why so many in recent times ?

There are definitely more reports of attacks in Australia over the past 5 years or so . Once it was quite a rare event , although I don't know where to find such statistics . I am guessing possibly a combo of factors : more sharks due to their protection , and more people in the water , and as Dead Star above notes more bait fish , etc ..... Certainly an utterly appalling tragedy , and my heart goes out to the victims and their families

    Outdoor Cubensis Cultivation

I just thought that I would mention that instead of buying expensive mason jars for growing the cakes , I found a tasty French jam at Coles and Woolies that are the perfect size and shape - just like Mason jars , cheaper , plus the jams as well . They have a simple black and white label , and a pinkish checkered lid ..... [ sorry , too much trouble to get up and check the brand atm ; maybe later if anyone wants to know ] .. I have also seen peanut butter jars of a perfect shape for removing the cakes when they're ready ...

    "Dob in a Dealer" Hotline

You may recall the cop who started off the Operation Noah farce - Barry Moyse , formerly the head of the S.A drug squad - was convicted and jailed for recycling drugs [ inc heroin , speed , and cannabis ] that were seized in the dob -ins ..... [ IIRC , he served 8 years , but had a much longer sentence . ]

    "Dob in a Dealer" Hotline

^^^ You're probably right in what you are saying about dobbing in dealers in your neighborhood , but in a perfect world there would not be any of these creeps dealing at all .... What I am saying is that drugs ought be available and regulated , with the focus being on harm minimzation . Nothing else can have a chance of success while such enormous profits can be made from drugs as at present . Anti - drug laws are simply a god - send to criminals , and in fact create the illicit markets and drug problems in our society .

    "Dob in a Dealer" Hotline

I don't like meth , or the illicit drug trade - [ all drugs should be decriminalized and available at reasonable cost for those who need them , without stigma ] Nevertheless , dobbing is un - Australian , and very , very dangerous indeed to the snitches ..... . [ dead finks don't talk too well ..... ]

    A Morally Bankrupt Society ???

Australia sure is a lucky country - we have a very high standard of living . [ But many indigenous people live in squalor with marginal health services . ] Our govts spend huge sums on advertising propaganda extolling their virtues and achievements , and millions on fireworks to celebrate dubious events , etc , etc , etc , Elsewhere across the world billions of people live in poverty , starving , drinking putrid water often lugged for miles by women or children , without any education or health care whatsoever .... But we are going to slash foreign aid to pay for our latest military campaign . In Iraq , and elsewhere - countries awash with oil revenue , or already spending big on war ... I often wonder if we are a morally bankrupt society .....

    A Morally Bankrupt Society ???

Jonathan Ott - [ imho , a very wise man ] - in the early 1990s suggested that if we are unable to change our western materialistic greed and consumption , we are destined for a global " biological and cultural holocaust " .... I think our taxes might be more wisely spent , instead of on extreme military violence .

    A Morally Bankrupt Society ???

Hi . I am inclined to agree with all of the above opinions , and like - YT - and others believe , perhaps there are better ways we could be spending money ; instead of making war and chasing " terrorists " [ and inevitably killing innocents in the process ] . Sure , the " terrorists " must have genuine grievances to so despise us , for them attempt to address these with their own " shock and awe " type actions .... Maybe , instead of ludicrously expensive extreme military violence , if we were to use that wasted money to attempt to help out with their problems instead of killing them and their neighbours , they might hate us a little less ? [ Whatever , benevolence rather than violence , could not be any worse than the situations we are constantly and presently creating ... ] Warfare , I believe , cannot solve the problems of today . Despair , suffering , hatred , misery , and more refugees fleeing our violence , I suspect , are more likely outcomes . History has shown us the insanity and utter futility of war , but it seems that we can't help ourselves ; and Australia [ for reasons I am unable to comprehend ] is always eager to join in the fight ; always one of the first nations to commit ... If our goal is to help create a harmonious world , I believe we are going about it the wrong way ....

Planting Acacia's out in the wild

Good idea , imo , but not in sensitive areas like National Parks . there is untold industrial wasteland that would benefit from this - you might even receive permission and financial help for improving industrial eye-sore land . Species like Acuminata , Floribunda , Maidenii , etc , are beautiful long living species and they should do well in damaged areas ; acacias being " pioneering " species .

    Australian terror raids

Yes , wise and sensible sentiments indeed ..... Possibly Abbott would not have been elected at all without the help of Rupert Murdoch and his massive media campaign prior to the last election . Nevertheless , the masses blindly swallowed it and Murdoch got his man into power ....

    Australian terror raids

9 / 11 was a god - send to George Bush { Jnr } ....without it he would not have had a hope of being re-elected for his second term in office . Similarly , Abbott has realized he is very unpopular with little chance of re-election , so he is scaremongering with his beating of the " terrorism " drum . Likely he will also resume his " stop the boats " invasion prior to the next election , or wind up another ludicrous fear crusade in an attempt to swing public opinion in his favour .
  20. Probably they are referring to one of the currently rampant NBOx compounds when speaking of " Synthetic LSD " - the NBOXs are in no way related whatsoever to LSD and are very dangerous drugs with extremely high LD50 toxicity . " synthetic LSD " is an unwise description in that it links dangerous substances to genuine LSD ; a drug of known extraordinary low toxicity .
  21. Likely here in Oz we are all under surveillance by the govt with every electronic communication device we use ... The spooks have software that is tuned to pick up key words among the barrage of electronic signals of the mass media we use ; thus they are able to zero in on " suspicious " activity . Proof that we are all under constant surveillance might be demonstrated in today's arrest of a young Muslim hot-head , alleged to be about to behead a random citizen and film this atrocity in the name of Allah and ISIL .... My guess is that this insane scheme was undone by electronic surveillance software .... Big Brother is indeed watching us all ...

    Help with Mould advice

Sounds like it was not dried out enough ... although it may look and feel dry , it should NOT be stored in air tight containers until the stems snap easily . Pliable stems indicate more drying is necessary , even though the buds may even feel dry and be smokable . mould is a bummer - might be best to chuck it out .
  23. Actually , because of intensive plant breeding the alkaloid content of the poppies has been altered significantly . They are no longer growing poppies with a high morphine content [ which is nowadays very low ] ; but instead , they are cultivating poppies with a very high thebaine content . Thebaine is useless as a recreational drug , but it is the starting precursor for oxycodone , and other synthesized opiates . Thebaine is also an extremely dangerous alkaloid to ingest , in any quantity . These " new " poppies are useless to people who want to steal a few and brew some poppy tea . They are extremely dangerous to do so , and have caused a number of deaths in recent years - [ I believe there exists a web site somewhere warning potential thieves of this danger . Leave the poppy fields be - nowadays the poppies are very bad news for teas... ]
  24. Supermarket cannabis is perhaps unlikely ; but countries such as USA , Spain , Portugal , Netherlands , etc , seem to be tackling the " problem " somewhat more sensibly than Australia .... Our politicians appear to be unable to comprehend that prohibition only serves to create and encourage the scourge of organized crime . Nevertheless , despite decades of prohibition and political promises to eradicate illicit drugs , crime is booming and the place is flooded with illegal drugs . Prohibition is a god-send to crime and criminals , creating the motivation by means of the massive profits from otherwise virtually worthless commodities . Thanks to our politicians organized crime , drug trafficking , obscenely wealthy gangsters , and untold victims continues to snowball . Drug trafficking and related crime is indeed a true Australian success story .
