    Oreck Air Filtration

I could'nt find the remote and up watching an infomercial for the Oreck air filtration device . Some impressive claims were made about this machine - said to be able to remove bacteria , fungi ,viruses , etc , from the air ; and the filter is washable and re-usable . By the look of the thing it would be quite easy to turn it into an affordable laminar flow hood .

    Perennial trees for edible leaves

I have wondered if Albizia Lebbeck foliage might be edible if cooked as a vegie . Buffalo love it if they can get at it .

    mimosa bending. ? " caatinga " ??

Thanks for the advice everyone .I should have added that neither my mate or me are physically capable of digging up trees ,both due to motorcycle " accidents " long ago . { both caused by oncoming cars doing right-hand turns in front of us .] I start off most plants on my balcony until they are established , then we move them to Pete's rural property . Most species that we've tried are doing okay so far . We've planted 100s of wattles - 7 species of significance around his house area ; and plan on using indigenous types elsewhere on his land to assist re-growth where it has been previously cleared . As for the mimosa , because of increasing difficulty to import, and ease of use [ pre-powdered for us ] , we thought of trying to grow our own mhrb . We had planned on putting them in 100 litre plant bags , to avoid digging , and experimenting with techniques on a couple of them .e.g addig indole-napth acetic acid to water , to see if root growth can be increased . BTW , we use Bill Mollison's " chicken tractor system " to do the hard work when preparing or cleaning up the vegie garden beds ; ducks helping the chooks . Tom

    smoking mixtures

DIED ???!! this has really shocked me . do you know if they were smoking seed ? I've only smoked foliage or bark scraping . I honestly feel the leaf is OK - but this is NOT an endorsement for others to do likewise . Tiny steps obviously are the way to experiment .

    Papaver somniferum seed swap?

good call Naja - makes sense as a by -product . Thanks . Never bothered to milk them , just toss em in the garden . I read somewhere that the Tassie type is bred for thebaine alks , and is otherwise useless . Is that correct ? Nice in the garden though .

    trespassing on victrack property

I was in Vic a few years ago , and not used to the machines and system I bought the wrong ticket . The ticket I bought actually cost more than the one I should have got because I did'nt get a concession entitlement . Trouble was it was for the wrong zone . I could'nt believe how those guys terrorized me over such a trivial matter : threatening fines , etc . They're such good little robots . . Also borrowed a car while there [ Vic ]. I am a careful driver , and very rarely get booked for traffic offences - but those cameras sure collected a lot of revenue from me for virtually nothing over the limit . Was glad to leave a police state - used to be Qld , but now Vic gets my vote for hassles .

    Papaver somniferum seed swap?

I get my seed from the local bakery each year . They usually give me a pie - bag full for a dollar or two . They grow huge pods , with a white flower and a lilac fleck on the petals . I suspect they are the " Persian White " variety , but uncertain of this ID . Tom

    WTB Trich cuttings

Hi T.E , thanks for re-arranging my notice . I actually typed it out like that, but when I posted it my computer condensed it into the form shown when I posted. I am new to computers and have so much to learn about them. I have no idea why my computer edits things for me, without asking it to do so.Originally I had composed a list, like you have done for me , but when posted the result is as shown. I am old , and in school in those days we were taught to do calculations by hand or with a slide-rule. Electronic pocket calculaters were around by the time I left school, but PCs were unheard of. I would like to do a course to learn how to use my PC with a liitle competence, instead of trial-and-error. Again T.E, thanks , Tom

    mimosa bending. ? " caatinga " ??

Good advice , thanks guys . I especially like the idea of trimming the tops to prevent flowering . At present they are on an urban balcony ; I usually raise the young plants of various species until they're big enough to transplant out on a mate's rural property . Very wary of MH as i have seen the wall of MP in NT - water buffalo cannot even penetrate the thickets , seriously . We also have had experience with getting rid of M.Pudica , and had to resort to glyphosate ; fortunatly we won a major battle . Trouble is MHRB [from USA ] is so nice to work with and so easy to refine to snow white xtals using the STB tek. My mate is keen to plant it out , but he has'nt seen the NT MP . Lopping them to prevent seedig is a great idea - I had not thought of that . AQIS have begun to hassle re U.S imports , and we had to pay extra for them to radiate the previous shipment . In comparison to MHRB acacia can be a real bastard to extract, especially bark . We have yet to find an easy way to powder up acacia bark, and the yields vary greatly in individual plants and also seasonally . My mate has lost his right arm so pre-powdered MHRB is perfect for him to provide an interest and cope with depression .A pity the govt is cracking down on MHRB . BTW , we source our acacia from his land sustainably, not from bush raiding .

    KK339 seedlings

Hi Gunther , I also have had similar germination problems , and so too have mates who also experience the same hassles . We truthfully have no idea as to why Trich seeds can be erratic re germination . Some believe their seed is possibly old and losing viability , but that they can fire months later after neglect suggests to me that they do so when they're ready ; or perhaps there are required conditions we are not aware of . I have no trouble at all with lophs , but have given up lately trying to raise trichs from seed . You're not the only one with trich germination hassles ; and if any one out there has advice , I too would like to learn more . regards , Tom .

    Acacia identification.

According to the Christian Ratch encyclopedia A. Baileyana contains tetrahydroharmane. I recall reading somewhere of speculation that an ayahuasca analogue might be possible using just acacias - one species to provide the MAOI, the other the DMT. Would be interesting to hear if any body has tried it.
