As an edible fruit enthusiast, I've been super keen on edible Tricho fruits for some time, but never really got anywhere with it. Over the years I remember some posts mentioning some awesome spachiana and some good quality icaro fruits. Well anyway never got hold of any cuts or anything, but finally I've stumbled upon some awesome fruits of my own and it has reignited my zeal to breed these fruits.

Mine are a peruviana type, and are quite large and sweet. Crunching up the seeds was not so good as they were a littler bit bitter. But I was surprised just how good these fruits were compared with the other tricho fruit I've tried over the years. If a good quality dragonfruit was a '10' for sweetness and flavor, these would be an '8'.

So anyway I'd love to hook up with any other like minded people to share these great genetics and hopefully do some hybridizing in the future to develop a superior fruiting tricho.

Lemme know if you have a good fruiter. I'd love to get a cut.

	Cheers!

Just over two years ago I planted OP Trichocereus Pachanoi Timewarp seeds from NZ.

They have really come picked up speed and their growth is vigorous as is supposedly expected from Timewarp.

I have noted two distinct spine form. About 3/4 have the usual short spine Pachanoi form, and then 1/4 show a far longer length and more numerous spines count, reminding me of a Peuruvianus.

According to a NZ seller Timewarp

 Quote

Trichocereus pachanoi “Time Warp” has mostly very short spines and is a fast grower.

The spine form is no related to maturity of the plant as both big and small plants show both forms.

Is this diversity usual and does anyone know what causes this variation?

Is it possible that some are following their mother the Timewarp and some are following the spine form of their father because they would have inherited both genes.

I have also noted that these are pupping machines. With several two year old plants throwing several pups. Teenage pregnancies I am calling them.

	These are the long spines

Hey everyone I have a massive problem and I don’t know where to start.

I’ve so far lost more than one plant to this simply by not paying attention to my cacti.

Seems to be some sort of of cacti borer which is eating the middle core of cacti.. No signs of pests but black marks have appeared in the side of one (suggesting some sort of fungal? Issue).

its seems to have eaten the core of 4 plants OVERNIGHT!

if anyone can assist in educating me on what this is and how to treat that would be fantastic.

	Thanks SAB fam,

I traded for two craft LW. I am however unsure how to water, nutrition and care of crafted LW.

	The root stock are Tricho.

The question is do I feed it like its a tricho, or do I feed it like a LW.

I can feed my tricho tons of water and fertilizer and it will go from strength to strength.

My un-grafted peyote, I care for by neglect. No fertilizers, No water for moths unless it is above 25ºc.

	What way do I go?

Everyone with access to flowering San Pedro Hybrids, please get in touch with me and i will hook you up with the seed of my own crosses of Trichocereus Hybrids that are flowering with a multicolored flower or with a flower in a color other than white.

I have selectively bred some Trichocereus Hybrids that flower EXTREMELY EARLY with a very small size. If you have some flowering trichos in your garden or collection, please let me know and i will send some of the seed to you! All i ask in return is that you please use the plants you raise from that seed to breed it with some San Pedro Cacti to create San Pedros with a colored flower! You can use them as mother or as father. Both directions will be badass!

I already grow five San Pedro Hybrids with colored flowers and I want to increase that number now! This year, I´ve given seed of them to some skilled growers and you will be able to get some cuttings as soon as it´s raised. I only had like 30 viable seeds so couldn´t give out more. But in the next years, we will have some badass flowers on your Plants!

Very Long Spine bridgesii ID

It has this very long spine in the middle of the areola, the areola is white fuzzy and protruding.

European wasps seem to go dormant over the colder months, I find them under rags, wood, tarps, pots, etc, they could probably still sting you, but do not wish to find out. A couple of years ago, I made up a mixture of borax and orange juice, as there was a nest near by, but I do not know where it is. For a year there were not any about and thought it had worked, but their back. I noticed them eating the pulp of Trichocereus fruit and am thinking of making up a mixture with the pulp and borax.

It is associated with the four directions, the winds or spirits that each direction houses, and that are always called upon during ceremony. The Incan empire was also divided into four regions of earth. From Cusco, a sacred city and the heart of the empire, a road departed in each direction (). The four-ribbed Huachuma is seen as the most sacred and magical of the cacti. These are very rare, and finding one is an auspicious act.

	Hello,

I have about eight very large specimens, from many years ago when I was interested in Ethnobotany. Sadly, I lost track of their names, origins, common names etc, but they all came from various sources via a friend at the time who was involved in this community.

These need to be harvested and 'processed', as I can no longer keep them. I may as well enjoy the outcome of the sacrifice !

To my untrained eye, they all loon quite similar, and traits between those even out of the same stump might even differ.

What are the most important things for consideration ? At least some of them should be either sp. pachanoi and (less likely) sp. bridgesii.

I'm an OK macro photographer, and happy to take shots for sharing here, of each specimen. What would folks like to see, in order to assist in identification ?

Number of ribs ?
The 'crown' of the column ?
The number of thorns in each cluster?
A dissection shot of the innards?

Some of them have flowered over the years, but not very often. And I don't remember which ones flowered at those times. The flower won't be an ID key

For everyone's viewing pleasure, here's a lovely one from a year ago, that I took as part of a 200-image time lapse over 12 hours.

I totally neglected looking into Carpobrotus sp. at all but wondering if they have been explored more recently by anyone?

Carpobrotus edulis has long been used as food and in traditional medicine in South Africa. This plant is used by the traditional healers to treat tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, sores, high blood pressure, intestinal worms and constipation.

I have a Trichocereus Pachanoi seedling that is about 5cm tall and about 12 months old.

It is interesting because it is showing some interesting morphology with an unstable rib count and spiraling growth.

However recently it grew a pup. An analogy is a 2 year old human give birth to a baby of its own.

My question is how common is pupping with seedlings?

What is believed to be the very first San Pedro cactus population?

How did San Pedro evolve or change from this to the forms we know today?

What is the difference between natural selection upon the alleles of San Pedro populations verses the effect of artificial selection upon said populations?

How might the variations in phenotype, chemotype and genotype that we know from present day populations of these cacti relate to their evolutionary history over time?

I wanted to share these questions about this evolutionary history and status of San Pedro cacti as an introduction to the consideration of an alternative theory of their evolution and taxonomic status.

I would like to suggest that the form of cactus widely known as Trichocereus pachanoi (or E. pachanoi, but I will largely use the Trichocereus genus for discussion) is a domesticated form of San Pedro cactus that has been shaped by human selection, propagation and distribution. This has resulted in a plant which I believe to be distinct from the original population of the plants. I believe the desirable traits selected for include short or nearly absent spines and high alkaloid content dominated by mescaline as the major alkaloid, as well as other aspects.

It is my belief that nature itself does not select for absent spines and high mescaline and that San Pedro populations, once established, if not subject to human selective pressure then gradually lose these traits, gaining increased alkaloid variation and increasing spine size, count and number.

Much as Zea or Corn originates as a hybrid between two distinct species, I suspect that San Pedro is a product of hybridization from an original population that was remarkably different than the cacti we call San Pedro today. I believe this ancient population was larger, wider, had more aggressive spines, a thicker and woodier vascular core and differences in alkaloid quality and quantity and that hybridization of this population with other plants occurred, which resulted in plants that were more desirable in terms of their traits, with these plants being selectively propagated over time in an ongoing process which gradually resulted in the production of San Pedro cacti, which were domesticated further by repeated selection over time.

When a population of these plants is allowed to naturally reproduce over time, they slowly change, and become mixed populations which exhibit variations including plants with longer spines, less alkaloid or different non-mescaline alkaloids becoming predominant as well as other changes. Over time populations slowly drift from active populations to populations with specimens including active and inactive forms and eventually giving rise to populations with few to no active forms.

This theory states that populations like T. cuzcoensis and it's allies, are not distinct species, but are rather populations of San Pedro cacti that have reverted over time because of natural selection, to feral forms. The idea is that various populations are in various stages of reversion and adaptation from their cultigenic domesticated forms. Each of these populations can be addressed specifically in terms of this and in relation to its variations, genetics and its cultural and environmental history, often over thousands of years.

Note that this theory is unknown online and disagrees strongly with the common consensus about the taxonomy and evolution of these plants, which I feel is highly confused and largely incoherent.

I strongly suspect that the ancestor of domesticated San Pedro was akin to Trichocereus atacamensis or Trichocereus terscheckii.

This is a cursory introduction to the theory, which I will address further as time and interest permits.

This thread of the same name, was posted by Evil Genuis in 2015 and searched, but could not find it. I thought this cactus was a Terscheckii, but was told it was a Trichocereus WK.

She said that it did not grow very tall and that it was like a watermelon inside, since it broke off, I know what she was talking about, as the core is very small. She could tell what it was

by looking at it, yet I do not know these traits and would like to know how to distinguish .

Just got given a pink flowering T.Scopulicola, that is about 18 inches high and don`t have much information about it, only that it maybe crossed with a Ecuadronan T.Pachanoi hybrid. So will have to wait awhile to be able to check out flowers, as the ones I have are all white flowers.

Pachanoi Pc, but they did not flower until the flower on T.Scopulicola were dead and shriveled. Maybe I got it wrong and there was a T. Pachanoi PC flowering..
