ID please for three sisters Caribbean plant magick herb

Best Answer Zaka , 30 March 2015 - 11:56 PM

Irie,

So got a reply from some buddies at an online group......

"Are we seeing several vascular cylinders in the cross sections, most noticeable in the piece on the right, all surrounded by a common periderm?

If so this is characteristic of Serjania (maybe other genera too) Sapindaceae. Serjania do seem to have Amerindian medicinal uses

Serjania mexicana is found in Jamaica (Acevedo seed catalog).
If there are three external vascular bundles in mature stems that would give three ribs perhaps leading to the local name!"

I think he's aced it!

Respect,
Z

Yesterday i found an ace new herb shop!
I ran my finger through the air infront of a tall rack
of many different plant medicine bags and this one herb
in particular drew me..
I will try to add pics if this android allows it.

It feels malpighiaceous to me so i smoked off a tiny amount as
incense :].. Wouldnt do it again but now we are aquainted.. I would
love to know anything anybody knows about this plants history and uses please.

Thanks in advance.
I also picked up some noni leaves and a different soursop leaf [duppy] and peteveria alliacea
for a friend who is battling cancer on their request.. And who seems to be doing well and refuses
reg medicine.

Its been awesome to see so many plants i never heard of so may post a few more Carribean herb IDs over this coming year.

Irie Brother,

Would like to see out of the bag.

Could be anything at this point...

Not heard of "three sisters" before....

Any chance of creole name or other language??

I have everything else you mentioned growing in abundance here.

Respect,

Z

Yes Zaka , thank you fella

.. I was hoping you would help on the subject and I always look forward to your posts anyway.

I just got back late so its not daylight for these pics that  I just took ...

but I tried to capture as much detail as possible in the focus.

I also took a pic of the shop flier with a list of their main herbs,

shop is called Tings Caribbean and the guy there is sound as a pound but could not divulge more

than the name "three sisters" unfortunately...

maybe the herb has a different and more used name?

He said he gets the three sisters from Jamaica specifically, and most of the others too..

anyway here's the pics

would very much love to know about the one called "strong back" too , that one had a pull to it but I had to move out of the way for some other customers since it's quite a small shop

...and forgot about it till now

I will go back soon , buy it and photograph that one too ...

I went in initially for cancer herbs for my "auntie" who im helping out..
Shes on terminal and i needed a roof and she needed an errand boy lol.
She only appreciates Caribbean herbal medicine and is a righteous but even still she
told me to keep the herbs i got her and told me just get the juice only next time. Lol.

But still, my first herbs collection from there is well exciting.

That flier with the list..
The ones with the markings were what the man penned down
after i had asked for herbs purely for cancer..

Three sisters were already in my hand by then after a browse while
he was serving another customer.. Seems nice and busy that shop.

I told him i studied witchery plant magick and growing many herbs from south america
and kinda just clicked on a level with him and told him how to find turkeytail n a few mushrooms
over this ends.

My auntie is family with jamaicans and they always visit on a random.
I was hoping soon one will recognise it and lend me some extra wisdom.
One knew nuni well so im sure we'll get there one way or other
i will ask the guy when i pick up the juice to see if he can find more names
via his source too.
Thanks again fella.

Irie,

Up-date

This is the latest from Pedro:

"There are three possibilities.

Serjania equestris, S. laevigata or S. nodosa. I would need to see the leaves to be able to tell the species."

Respect,

Z
