Cereus hildmannianus monstrose X Cereus ? seeds

Recommended Posts

Well I have finally picked the fruit from my C.hildmannianus monstrose, it was crossed with another Cereus ? (normal form). I was wondering if anyone would be interested in growing these seeds? I have put some aside for poisonshroom, cactuskate & stillman but have more here. I would imagine a lot of these seeds will carry the mothers monstrose traits but I have not grown these seeds myself yet so only time will tell. I would be happy to give these to members that have a genuine interest in cacti, trades are certainly welcome .

Another condition of getting these seeds will be adding comments & photos in a thread I will start, I am asking this because I am genuinely interested in what the ratio will be of monstrose & normal seedlings will be.

Here a some photos of the parents.

I know there not Tricho something monstrose, but I would of thought there would of been some cactus lovers out that would like to grow some seeds that will surly throw a few monstrose cacti :o. Or does everyone here own a Tricho monstrose & can't be bothered or have the room for Cereus? If thats the case I'm starting to fill left out  Haha.

I'm down! I've got 2 types of cereus, one with really long spines and one with barely any spines at all, I crossed them last year, got heaps of deliciously sticky, sugary fruit and heaps of the seeds germinated. Be interesting to see what they grow up to be. Be great to add a third set of genetics into the scene. I'll send you some stamps or various seeds in return?

Heya buddy,

I've got some TPQC x TPM (Nitrogen's trichocereus pachanoi quazi crestate x trichocereus Peruvians monstrose) here for ya if you want them?

I've sown plenty and sorted out my local cacti-nerds. All yours if you are keen.

:worship: :worship: Oh Bogfrog, I would be honoured to get a chance to grow these seeds & get into Nitrogen's crestate club :P. I will send you a PM soon. :worship:

@ Gunfighter, that second one (short spined) looks very similar to the one I got, that I took the pollen from.

@Quantum & Stillman, I will need you to PM me your addy's again as I don't keep them.

Have a good night all :)

I've got 2 opuntias that I intend on crossing too. A really slow growing one that has tiny white furry prickles that hurt like buggery, that you can't EVER get out and the classic invasive prickly pear (never fear local government, it's in a big pot). Hybrid of terror!!

cool gunfighter are you planning on trying the opuntia fruit, some are delicious. Heres a link to that thread.

Its harder to id these then it looks plus lots of hybrids about too. I'll get some pics of my hybrid seedlings soon, I grafted a few to peres but they just don't seem to be as vigorous as trichos or other stock, its weird.

Hey Jox

I would like to try a few seeds please

I put down some a few months a go I think they were from 2deep's cross. They have stalled a bit and at this point there is no sign of any freaky growth.

Cheers

Yup! Prickly pears are delicious! (and rumored to be one of the most therapeutic fruits on the planet) We own land in the northern darling downs and despite the governments best efforts, they are EVERYWHERE. I've seen one that's at least 15ft tall. I wonder how well grafting onto an established opuntia would go?
