And my wife is an adopted child, and it was something we have seriously considered doing when we have enough funds. From where, and what colour, I don't really care. So please try to remain pleasant when discussing these things, because it really makes you look like a dick when you get it wrong..

What am I getting wrong ? Do you have adopted kids presently? Words are cheap.

Or have you procreated ? Do you get any government handoutsas a result of your choice? Have you ever received goverment handouts for your choice inn the past?

Presently i think I'm right on the money with my evaluations.

And I can not speak out when its my tax money being used for such extravagances? Or am I supposed to pay my tithe like a good citizen and trust in the goverments judgement to do whats best?

^^ How the fuck could I possibly prove that I have never received government handouts? Your imagination is running really fucking riot on this one. Take a step back, brother, and have a smoke or something.

And I can not speak out when its my tax money being used for such extravagances? Or am I supposed to pay my tithe like a good citizen and trust in the goverments judgement to do whats best?

Whatever, Psylo, you can of course have your say, it's a free fucking country, or so they tell me. If I could prevent my taxes going on weapons and to fund the fossil fuel industry, I would, and instead I would ensure that home-makers get paid to rear kids instead. But hey, who's listening to me?

Psylo I think you are very capable of intellectual debate but you spend alot of time being a cunt just for the sake of getting a rise out of people. Its a bad habit you should try and not be like it all the time.

No, I am a cunt whose words inadvertently get a rise out of people because they dont agree. You are overstating the intention. I'm merely speaking my thoughts, its up to others to decide how they are going to take them on board.

Hmmm, not sure if this is really something I need to intervene in. Whitewind opened the can of worms in post #16 in regards to the parental payments and I am not surprised psylo objects to that. I am also not surprised that incog sees this as a personal attack. The tone of this thread was set with the first post - you can't piss psylo off in your first and not expect him to take an interest in the thread. The topic was derailed by the OP in post 16. As long as you guys keep it civil I don't see how this is a mod's job to sort out. Mind you there are plenty of comments that are not entirely civil, but most of them aren't psylo's.

Personally I agree that parents should take responsibility for their own kids. Why should a person/couple who chose not to add to the overpopulation burden of the world be financially penalised with taxes being handed out to parents who for the most part pop out kids because of lack of self control, religious conviction, or stupidity? On the other hand, I don't necessarily agree with paying for overseas adoptees either for a variety of reasons, eg it is MUCH cheaper looking after them in their own region, a cultural identity is important for kids, and most of the overpopulation in those areas has the same root causes that overbreeding has in this country: lack of self control, religious conviction, or stupidity.
If Pacman had affected us as kids we'd be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

it';s interesting you say "slave" - the fact that we don't get paid directly for this indicates to me that there is something intrinsically wrong with the economy and the way we run it. It's based on old-fashioned ideas of a married couple being the "norm" with breadwinner and a home-maker, whereas in reality this just isn't the case any more. Capitalism doesn't see the home-maker as a useful "productive" job in any way, and so something essential to our society (and the economy!) is unpaid.

okay ive read and re-read this 5 times now. I see NOTHING in there asking for govt handouts.
iside from the capitalism bit that i dont understand fully i can see sense in the rest of the comment.
.
maybee this discussion is what started the derailment but really the rest was nasty bullshit.

but hey whatever floats ur boat.

who for the most part pop out kids because of lack of self control, religious conviction, or stupidity?

Psylo isn't being a cunt, a troll a racist or any other of these attempts of belittling his character - to detract from his argument/point of view... To me at least, Pyslo is pushing a very valid point, and that I'm a little surprised that its only being interpreted as an act to 'get a rise out of people'. Surely the base logic of why funding people who had/have the resources to make an informed choice about having kids is a poor decision, and is self evident after a tiny bit of extrapolating what would happen if people are paid to have kids... But you know..Whatever

Derailed? A bit heavy that, I was just commenting on how it was a serious job that was unpaid. Like growing food, parenting is one of the core productivities of our civilization, we don't have one without it. I fail to see why it is considered a personal matter and not one for the community as a whole, and therefore should be treated with a hell of a lot more respect than it is. In fact, if society gave a shit about this more, then parents would be under a lot more pressure not to be so slack with looking after their kids. We've got things all shits up in our economy, and no-one can see it because parenting decisions are left entirely to the individual / couple, and because profit is valued above all else. No wonder our planet is overpopulated and environmental destruction is spinning out of control.

Yeah, and the goberment edumackating people's children for free too. It's a disgrace. If you can't afford to edumackate your own kids you shouldn't have them, or they can just work in a factory or sumphong.

On topic :)

There was a thread a few years ago that was much the same as this one I actually went looking for it the other day but never found it, I usely find threads like this really interesting as it shows how diverse the members lives are which in my opinion makes this place so special. What we do sometimes lack is the ability to accept people for who they are and for their beliefs and way they wish to live their lives.

I own a small engineering company which I have run with my wife for twelve years. At this point of time we employ seven people which is about the size that we want to be.
My wife works three days a week and we have two daughters one 15 is the other is 6. We do what we have to keep the business going to earn a buck and to do the best for our children and to try and have some fun along the way.

Cheers
Got

Derailed? A bit heavy that

sorry, should have said you 'opened the door to the derailment' ratehr than derailing it yourself. Sometimes innocent comments can cause this and wasn't a reflection on you.

I was just commenting on how it was a serious job that was unpaid.

I fully agree that it is a serious job and should get paid. That's why there are TWO parents.

If you want the community to take responsibility for your kids then the community should also have a say in whether you get to have kids. I'd be quite happy for my taxes to be used to fund a negative population program for example. Let the community pay for your first child as long as that's all you can have. probably even more controversial than the rest of this discussion, but personally I find the concept of rewarding the process of contributing to the demise of the planet even more controversial.

Okay, it was meant as a joke (incog saw that and I was way more offensive towards him than Psylo) and I'm pretty sure Marcel will chuckle too. In any event, I deeply apologise for causing offense to Psylo.

Bah! He can take it. I wasn't complaining that you insulted him in a humorous manner, but was just pointing out that the pussies who keep whinging about how bad this thread has gotten need to remember that the tone was set by the OP.

Rahli, I see edumacation as a necessary process to make sure the child I didn't ask for is not going to be a continued burden on society. ie, once a problem is here let's make the best of it. I also have no problem with a stable population or a slight reduction. That still means lots of kids - just not as many. if we had less kids we might be able to do a better job on them becuase we have more resources to throw at them. The fact is that people who can't fund their own kids [even with govvy help] usually do produce factory workers. I know you only said that in jest to illustrate YOUR point, but in fact you illustrated mine.
If Pacman had affected us as kids we'd be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

Some interesting results in

Governments be warned, policies you make aren't even favourable to everyone in your employ, let alone the population at large. Quite a few students and self employed people too. A nice rounded number of people, not enough home-makers for my liking, though. Probably too busy looking after the kids at the weekend to get on to the forums, would be my guess.

And interesting results in the fields, too. High proportion of people in Agriculture, Education and Science, only a few in Arts / Entertainment! I was wrong, unless the artists have only just woken up and are about to vote, of course.

34 members have cast votes so far.. keep it coming
