A hidden garden of unearthly delights

Recommended Posts

I stumbled across a wonderful garden recently with what I would hazard a guess to be one of the best established Trichocereus collections going in Australia. The collector wasn't home but his wife was kind enough to let me wander around to my heart's content.

Here's some of the less common one's, more to follow.

That long spined ones is truly one of the most beautiful plants I have ever seen. It reminds me a bit of Faslimy's plant that has similar long spine...just not that long. Maybe it's the same plant grown under different environments as the body shape is quite identical.

Yes the long-spine was indeed special standing there all on it's loansome, just one simple beautiful column.

Here are 3 fatties. The first 2 are scop X's I guess and the 3rd & 4th I've seen before and called "Goliath". It is what my "fat pach" seed was X'd with and it has the most perfumed tricho flower's I've smelt so far.

Holy crap.

Those cacti are literally so fat they're bursting at the notches.

Dude.

How do you expect me to write code or hell, even go to sleep at night now?

I don't think I can help myself

What I love more than the plants themselves is the fact that there is scarcely a blemish on those plants!

I don't know how some growers achieve that since it's so common to see the scars of episodes of black rot, sunburn, and other trauma on the plants of so many collectors.

A real eye-opener and the gold standard as far as I'm concerned. Any tips on how to achieve this?

Starting from seedlings seems to be required for this sort of disease free outcome?

Try moving south, SA, western VIC and Southern WA are ideal conditions with low mold/fungi spore count, lower humidity and more ideal for cacti growth.
