So was T pachanoi the father or the mother?

So was T pachanoi the father or the mother?

Cereus peruvianus x Trichocereus pachanoi

Trichocereus pachanoi Mother

I also have 2 fruits maturing on 2 Cereus mothers, same clone (opposite x)......they seem to be hanging in there...too early to know if they will make it...last fruit of last season..

Plant A x Plant B means Plant A is the mother. Also I always assumed C peruvianus is self-fertile, not sure though.

that's Sexist! :o

shame on you.... :)

actually I didn't know there were such hybridisation rules...so its

Trichocereus pachanoi x Cereus peruvianus ....hmmm so the women's on top...nice..easier that way...

As far as I know there is no such thing as C peruvianus...its generic...for cereus I don't know....commonly used, even by the experts.

I have c Jam...C Val... and a couple of hybrids (loads of other types as seedlings)...I have tried self fertilising them all with their own pollen ...even using cement....got absolutely nothing...same story with the san p....most search's seem to confirm they do not self fertilise, regrettably...

marathon packing session...ready for Mondays post........(still waiting on 1 address...next weekend)

EDITED....Its Monday....

So your seeds were sent off today.....the trich x cereus is labelled as Echinopsis pachanoi x

or Echinopsis pachanoi x cereus..........I planted some in my propagator ~20c soil temp..They grow up ok ..but preferred the edge area's....cooler, I guess. central/warmer areas more prone to rot .

Can you let me know as soon as they arrive? ...thanks

Also apparently I may have mislabelled some of the seeds....in the mailout

..I screwed up ...it should read pachanoi. (not peruviana)

so E. peruviana is Trichocereus pachanoi

and E. peruviana crossed cereus is the Cereus peruvianus x Trichocereus pachanoi

late night packeting ...lol

I'm having a real hard time keeping the trich x cereus hybrids alive.....easy to propagate....they grow to 10mm...& then faultier...sure sign they are hybrids...trichs are usually so easy to grow..........any suggestion's welcomed.

Have you tried any grafts to peres by any chance? I'll be trying a graft once mine germ I reckon.

they look more like cereus seedlings, oddly,

its getting them to be big enough to graft.. or if your skilled to get them early....but grafting is the way to go I think.

especially the albino's........get loads of them....not sure if they would stay albino?.....but they seem the 1st to depart....

My only survivor, from 42 seeds about 3 popped and 2 promptly died leaving this one, even though it's small it's 10 months old, shitty conditions will do that, hey?

I'm scared to move it even though it's in a fetid little container of pure propagating sand and some fertilizer that was watered in once.... :BANGHEAD2:

Also, it's a pity that Dreamwalker doesn't seem to be around these days. Always had great pics and grafting skills. Come back some day.

Would be cool to get seeds like this down in vitro if they ever pop up again. Way higher chance of surviving even if there are some kind of genetic defects going on causing the high mortality rates.
If they do pop up again let me know and I'll get them in vitro.

Thanks for the update Zed. Fingers crossed it survives. I reckon even if it was somehow self pollinated it would be just as amazing.

I just wanted to do an update on this cross and since there are already other pics in here I figured it was the best place to put it......

This might be my last update as I finally re-potted it last night, (so it'll probably die on me now!! haha! :P ) If I had more than 1 seedling still alive I would have grafted it, but since this is the only one I didn't want to risk it just yet. It's definitely starting to look a bit monstrose and weird.
