Hey fiends,

I thought, since its nearly season, id ask a few questions I have myself and maybe itl answer future queries.

Okay, so you wana find some P.Cubensis or Sub. Cubensis because you like taking photos of them...........

You've learn t the basics, but the one there's one question you have that you desperately want answered....

WHERE THE FK ARE THEY ?!?!?

Id like to designate this post to that particular question because in the end it all doesn't matter if you dont find any and you dont wana hear "better luck year year mate" ever again.

So lets hear it, where did/do you find yours? Dont have to give away the exact spot

What was the conditions exactly leading up to this batch?

What type of environment was it? Damp, Wetlads, dried, urban, where they growing out of the heavily manured mulch at your local maccas

What are there location characteristics in your experience

Essentially id like to see a formula grow to aid all hunters

namaste peps

Once a couple of years ago, while waiting at a bus stop and having my winter ever searching on the ground eye I came accross a nice few subs just sitting there right next to the bus stop. Looked like they were just growing in the dirt, there was a little bit of old rotting veg though. Needless to say the bus ride into town was quite fun.

Not sure about cubes, they dont grow where I live but I know subs just love about any decomposing vegetation ie. pine forest, eucalypt forests where there is alot of leaf/wood matter breaking down on the forest floor.

i don't think you mean P.Cubensis dude..... as they fruit in warm and humid conditions, maybe google Psilocybe subaeruginosa, as they are also very photogenic and fruit in colder weather

Good on ya for getting into the mushroom hunting spirit. Its great fun but..............do some research man!!! For safetys sake if nothing else. We all gotta start somewhere (Im not that experienced myself) but if you dont even know the proper names, (its Psilocybe subaeruginosa, NOT Sub cubensis) then you probably dont know how to ID, and there are poisonous shrooms that look very similar to subs.

The best thing about doing the research for yourself rather than asking others to tell you everything, is its heaps more rewarding when you do actually find some.

For a start, try The Shroomery, its a gold mine of info, with some very knowledgable members, and you can post pics and get IDs pretty quickly to save you from eating a handful of poisonous Galerina's or something.

Your on the east coast, so you've already got them far more abundantly than us over west here, so do some research, get out there hunting, and you'll have success soon enough.

Best of luck for the season and stay safe

Happy hunting

If you are on the Central Coast of NSW I don't like your chances of finding cubes (P. Cubensis). Too cold.

Subs on the otherhand are a possibility, but only in the more elevated and colder climes of the state. Unless you have your own patch in your backyard, mulched with caapi leaves and bark, of course.

Spend the time researching and getting your knowledge up, particularly in terms of habitat, humidity, season, etc. and then get into it.

Good luck! :)

Cant help with subs, but up here in the tropics the cubes are very abundant! Unfortunately the season is coming to an end for us. A walk through a cow paddock after the rains on a warm day will prove results, my latest find was quite the surprise, were i live we have red mud / dirt.. ive got thick mycelium and cubes that popped up in the dirt in my backyard. Didnt think it was possible, almost supernatural..

Cubism said it.. research.. but then you want to take photos, so when you do sure someone here can id for you.

Goodluck!

Thanks for the info and advice everyone. Im very excited to be here on this fourm so thank you all for the kind informative direction.

Ill start researching Psilocybe subaeruginosa.

maybe a few of you can look at my other thread in the ID FUNGUS section, i found what a member thinks are Gymnopus luxurians..........could you knowledgeable people please put your two cents in.

Im taking your advices on doing my own research but i also take the advice of

mystical oyster in posting pics in the id.

could you please help with that ID?

Ive heard year back of "GYMS" and the word gymnopus ring a bell??? are these the them, do they contain psychoactive compounds ?

I hope you don't think im taking advantage of your knowledge by just blindly asking away. I taught myself mechanics by both by asking questions on the fourms and goggling articles/info. ( i promise i wont clogg the sections with to many daft questions)

thanks guys

you ;)

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier.

Gymnopus is NOT the same as Gymnopilus, which contains a few mildly psychoactive species. I think at least two of them grow in Australia, research their habits, now is the time to find them.

Btw, I was a 'trusted identifier' at another site, not that it means much, but just so you know I usually try to be at least somewhat accurate. ;)

this link is an oldie but a goodie:

https://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/magic_mushrooms_aunz/magic_mushrooms_aunz.shtml

cubensis season in nsw has pretty much ended now. when in season, these can be found in cow paddocks within 50-100km max of the coast.

as others have said, now would be a good time to start researching psilocybe subaeruginosa. they can be found in cooler forested areas growing on decomposing wood. i've found botanic gardens to be good places to look for these, lots of wood chipped garden beds.

good luck with your research!
