Medicine men and psychedelic therapy.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been interested in this for sometime but only recently reached a place where I feel this would be beneficial for me.

I'm interested mainly in ayahuasca and ibogaine therapy and would like to take part in this with an experienced shaman/medicine man. In a place where this could be legally done of course.

Given the nature of false teachers I wanted to enquire here as to how others have gone about this, recommendations, experiences. I'd love to hear about what others have learned.

What are you looking to get out of aya and ibogaine?
They are extremely powerful and there may be other sacraments that achieve what you are looking for.

I travelled to Peru, (and Columbia) about 2.5 years ago, to a health retreat in the Amazon jungle, l contacted 3 places, but was knocked back by 2 of them because I had just been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2!

The 3rd one said come on over, we have had success in curing that in the past and we can help you too.

This was the Ayahuasca Foundation, ran by an American, Carlos Tanner, who had went to Peru and drank Aya, and was told to create this foundation!

All I can say is It was the best 2 weeks of my life, and I am no longer Diabetic, the cure was the Gall Bladder of a jungle rat, called a Mahas!

Fantastic Experience, and would recommend the Ayahuasca Foundation to anyone!

Cheers Godiam.

I'm looking to heal my addiction issues and a mild psychotic disorder. I feel in sync on a higher level but there is a stress in between.

Given some deeper thought I believe the core processes lie in facing my shadow self. This has caused numerous upheavals in my life and I feel I am in need of support and guidance.

I can expand though on my intentions.

I do regardless also spend a lot of time on a range of spiritual practices.

Indeed to continue my journey healing is a must, but in a way I feel somewhat capable myself. My intentions for ayahuasca would be to stimulate a journey where I could experience and work with my already present spiritual connection, thus assisting in the healing of my human self.

However, the point I am at now I feel guidance and support is necessary and reaching out to those more experienced than me feels beneficial.

I'm not quite sure what I need, but if I was to journey on ayahuasca I feel certain I would need someone experienced in holding the space as I am not able and not experienced in doing that myself.

On the other hand if I found the correct healing for my issues, in particular psychosis and stabilising my core energy/boundaries, I may not need the help of an entheogen to continue working on this myself.

Spending thousands to receive healing does make me wonder of the integrity of such a practitioner. I should not write off as such however, thats just though as I have come across a genuine medicine men and despite teaching me things integral to my journey he was not willing to work with me further.

Hello,

first of all i like to say, that you should be very sceptical about whatever you are coming across on the internet regarding Ayahuasca and Ibogaine.

I believe it is of utmost importance to read about the origins of Ayahuasca and Ibogaine, to understand where it comes from and what it does.

I like to refer to the Authors like:

Richard Evans Schultes, Albert Hofmann, Christian Rätsch (Plants of the Gods,

Jeremy Narby (The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge),

James Fadiman (The Psychedelic Explorer's Guide),

Rick Strassman (The Spirit Molecule) and

Carlos Castaneda (Teachings of Juan)

Theses Authors wrote incredible books about “psychedelics”.

Read as well what the critics have to say about each of the individual authors. Keep an open mind and have your thoughts, build your own opinion around the topic.

There are many other publishings out there to use as reference.

I also like to point out, that psychedelics (Ayahuasca and Ibogaine) do not work like school medicine, like you get diagnosed then take the prescribed medicine and the problem/ disease is gone, on the contrary, it's the start of a journey. Ayahuasca and Ibogaine both have incredible healing power.

Ayahuasca is a very wise teacher. Ayahuasca is female spirit. I experienced her as the universal wisdom, as mother nature.

When I went for my first encounter with Ayahuasca, I had the impression that I go to Peru, do my 15 ceremonies in 30 days, then my therapy is over and I am healed. It was far from that. When I returned from Peru, I just had gained an insight about the divine Ayahuasca.

Healing takes time, personal change and (thats my own opinion) you have to return back to peace contemplation and consciousness.

My first ceremonies have been rather unspectacular then accompanied with visions and insights.

The Shaman who did the ceremonies was of great help and guided me through the ceremony. Every ceremony was different and brought personal issues into the light which I never had expected. I grew and experienced healing, which is still an ongoing phenomena.

Many people argue about if Ayahuasca or Ibogaine is the most potent psychedelic.

This is not up to me to judge, but I know one thing for sure. Both are the most potent psychedelics known to men.

I have deepest respect for both of them.

Ayahuasca doesn’t kill you and you can't overdose on it.

Which I can't say for Ibogaine. Ibogaine can be a killer.

In Europe Ibogaine is given, to people in a hospital like and very controlled setting because it can harm and kill you. Trust is the utmost importance when it comes to Ibogaine.

My shaman lives in Contamana in Peru and she is taught by shaman from the Shipibo people.

Contamana is approximately 2 hours flight time from Lima and one hour away from Iquitos. In the greater area around Iquitos, Ayahuasca is very commercialised.

Cheers

U

Do not dismiss the use of the sacred mushroom in your quest, whilst fun recreationally higher does in a wild peaceful setting can send you on a journey where you can reconnect with the teachings of old.

I second Etho's statement. And I feel that it is a far far safer path than ibogaine. Yes ibogaine has some documented cases of being effective but there are also numerous documented cases of "therapeutic doses" leading to fatal intoxication. There are too many differences between peoples physiology to assume that a helpful dose for one is helpful for another. And unless shamans have some magical ability to read the individual receptors and enzymes of individuals compared to the "average" then I don't see how they can honestly make a call about administering a potentially fatal substance to a vulnerable individual.
In a controlled medical setting it would be a whole different story. There are things that can be done to help you if ibogaine intoxication is expected, but it's not going to be helpful if you are in the middle of the bush and away from potential medical care.
