P.somniferum

Question

Hi, I found some seeds recently that I had saved from a previous house I lived in, I think that they are papaver somniferum but I'm not sure, found conflicting pictures on google search so thought I'd ask you guys here.

From memory the flowers were pink. Seed pods were like what i've seen on google search for p.somniferum seed pods.

Any ideas thanks

I originally planted heaps of seeds but only 3 survived, with my 2nd attempt to grow some more they all died  so I guessing I did something wrong. But anyway this is all I have left so Im hoping it is what I think it is and that its gonna survive

Awesome I hope you're right as I've been so excited since finding the seeds (which were lost in a container in a box in the shed for 5 years!).

yep looks som like. Probably won't get very big before it flowers being that big at this time of year. Dunno where you live but from what I have read and seen in the weedy wild ones, (and ones in old peoples gardens around here) they like to be sown mid to late winter, (this depends on where you live). They should produce some seed pods and hence more seed, for you though... even if they aren't massive.

It's about 4cm wide still tiny :) Thanks for that info, I didn't even think to check what season to plant them was too happy to find the seeds I just planted them straight away lol.

Yep, I would also agree it looks like a little p.som

I have heard if you want them to get to waist/chest height before they flower you can start them at the beginning of winter.
