Hello I have recently discovered reddish purple cauliflower type growths on some acacias in my area. They are commonly called 'rust' or 'galls' . I have taken samples to the herbarium at the botanic gardens and also the museum, entomology (insect) dept of the state museum, and no-one can tell me 'exactly' what they are or what forms them.
The research i have done indicates that they could be caused by fungi or insects.
