shonman Posted August 1, 2015 Water, aside from being absolutely essential for life itself, if highly under rated as a solvent. It is also a very cosmic 'element' in the old sense of the term and, has intense physical properties. Don't forget, we, too are made mostly of water.... search Wikipedia superheated water if interested, I cant seem to cut and paste the url
paradox Posted August 1, 2015 they don't call it 'the universal solvent' for nothing. cause a hugely broad range of chemicals will dissolve in it, which is why life is possible at all.. so it's not that underrated really.. except perhaps amongst backyard chemists.. because of these properties it's use in chemical purification seems limited.. Sallubrious Posted August 1, 2015 When I was in year nine I asked my science teacher how two gasses (Hydrogen &Oxygen) combine at room temp. to create a liquid and he couldn't tell me. The bastard had it in for me after that.
DELETED ACCOUNT Posted August 2, 2015 I agree, its good stuff the ol water. I'm not so sure... so-called 'water' molecules are actually made up of two (di-) hydrogen atoms with an (monoxide) oxygen = dihydrogen monoxide.
