Grafting competition 2011/2012

Recommended Posts

I have no peres! This is going to be tough, I'll be grafting onto Hylocereus undatus :/

Trialling some Trich grafts onto it at the moment to see if I can handle it.

PM'ed flora

I need some more Im down to 3 pieces,

some sort of black worm eat the middle of one of my stocks :ana:

on the other hand I have 50 or so seedlings popped, very good germ rate I must say (they're still popping).

also I have plenty of seeds and and seedlings left, so I will break 100 into 20 seed lots and send them to the first 5 people to say they want some in this thread then those five shoot me a PM with your addresses and I'll send them out

Ethos I'd love some! I only had 3/30 germinate and they don't look too snazzy.

I'd LOVE some peres but I am happy to let others take it...

Peace! I will PM you

None of my seed have sprouted either the last lot i sowed took 11 days to sprout but then had a great germination rate like 90 percent. It was a bit cooler tho i thought they would come up a bit quicker

Whoever sent me peres, I have bad news! It arrived in the mail with all the leaves crushed off and broken! I've put it in the ground but I don't know if it will survive. Thankyou for sending it so much though.

Peace.

Khala... the peres will be all good, they love a bit of bashing... that'll be your mother stock...

OK, well, my arios are up and booting along (prob about 40 up so far, in one week!), so i think my first grafting will be done tonight or tomorrow...

I gotta find my loph seeds to put down now...

If they are all middle pieces rolled in a tube they are probably from me

The older pieces don’t have many leaves just cut them up and plant them into pots if you can put them somewhere warm and humid ( in the shade ) they should get new shoots once they grow some roots. You can then keep a couple as mother plants and just keep cutting off the new tip growth when they get about 100mm long and plant them out.

Out of all of the pieces of pere that I have planted I have had none die or not take

For anybody that hasn’t grown pere before

1: Don’t treat them like a cacti

2: Do give them plenty of water

3: Do grow them in high humidity

4: Do grow them some were warm

5: Do grow them in part shade or under fluro’s

6: Treat them like a tropical and you can’t go wrong

Cheers

Irie,

So had 5 seeds pop, although I was expecting more?

I transplanted them as I was concerned about damp off.....

Giving the germ tray a few hours in the sun to see if that spurs any action....

Luckily I just got a few more seeds in the post today....so they'll be going down today!

Pics soon!

Respect,

Z

I think i stuffed my first planting none have come up but i put in a second lot on about the 5th and they've started sprouting. I don't know how i stuffed the first lot i used the same seed soil and conditions ? I did leave them in hot direct sun one day but i wouldn't imagine that would kill them

Irie,

Yeah you don't want to put the seedling in the full sun but the extra heat sometimes kick some seeds in to popping.

I've only seen one more so far!

Respect,

Z

Decided to upload some photos. This is my first time growing lophs and I'm ferting them WAY too hard, but I still think they aren't growing very fast. What are your opinions?

I'm going to attempt my first graft tonight my seedlings are tiny they only came up Saturday but it's turned green so I'll see how i go

I was thinking tho with such a tiny area joining to the stock do you think my button will be able to feed enough to grow fast

I guess we'll find out soon enough :)
