spooge Posted December 16, 2014 Pimento this is an awesome project mate. And it looks like an awesome spot too! Well done, that must have been some work to clean and plant all these... I think that 'beningo ben bridgesii' is a peruvianus though... Cheers for picking up the wrong name on the blue Peru Mutant, I've fucked up somewhere and miss labeled it, been through lots more in the last few days making sure all are tagged correctly so there are hopefully no more wrong names........ Messaged the very good member that I got the plant from and they have confirmed that it is a Peru from Dawsons in Bendigo. Edited the post. We get lotsa rain here in the hills and were in the shadow of a large hill South facing hillside with these conditions I thought it best after lotsa consultation with trich growers to plant them on a slope to allow for good drainage in the wet months. We also have limited flat land so the plants fit in just right here. Pimento, that's an amazing planting. Can't wait to see it in 20 years.I am not planning on moving anywhere, look forward to posting pics as it all grows in the years to come.I'll be proud as they get to the size and beuty of some of the plants we see on here.
incognito Posted December 17, 2014 Hiya backatcha Mutey old mate weird u where in my dream actually the other night well my minds concept of u anyways but that's a whole nother thread ;) To be totally honest I pee on my plants full strength about once every three months, and usually when I'm watering with my (other) hose. But then sometimes not while I'm watering but I'd rather do it while watering it in. All my plants are pretty healthy. Mind you I'm not emptying my full bladder on one plant. Pot size matters (no pun intended) some of my cacti in little pots get just a squirt. All gardeners know that running a hose and watering makes u wanna pee especially after u have had a longneck or so and I'm not ashamed to admit it! Well none have really died from it I think, Hoyas included. Anyways to make the post relevant today I stood and admired my lophs, little ones I got a decade a go are now huge I never expected to see them this big ever really I'll have to post pics when I get a real computer etc lame excuse lame excuse etc Also trichs are flowering of their nuts, I'm hoping to pollinate a large blue Peruvians with a bridg that flowers at the same time got a few to chose from, I'm leaning towards Kai. Will get em out cheap and plentiful to the community again, never got any pics of my last x's progeny :.( Over and out, Relax its only pee, use it! Somehow, anyhow, it's good shit.
incognito Posted December 17, 2014 Btw psilos that looks fricken sweet as mate. Space age indeed man hi-5 you for your effort I certainly wouldn't piss on them in there, but yeah man you keep posting stuff like that might miraculously get my finger out of my ass and set my rig up again I've got loph seed I've collected over the last 5 yrs mine hasn't been up and running, however mine is rather a Homer Simpson version of your space ageity shinyness I think your should play daft punk everytime you open the door like those Christmas cards with the electronic soundy thing in them.
Spanishfly Posted December 17, 2014 Urea is a well-used fertiliser - indeed it has supplanted ammonium nitrate in recent years. But urine is not used commercially - it contains far too much salt to be healthy for plants. Believe me, farmers collect MASSES of urine, and if they could use it as a free fertiliser, instead of paying for urea, they would. I would NEVER piss on my collection of endangered species, and would not advise anybody else to (on theirs, that is).
Philocacti Posted December 17, 2014 Apparently global warming has started to effect the weather here in a way that's very noticeable. It's mid December and 20 degrees Celsius is the average temperature. Last week of November in had some Lophophoras still flowering and usually they stay dormant and fruit by spring. This year the fruits are still emerging

Spanishfly Posted December 19, 2014 My plants spend the (mild and frost free) winter sheltering from the rain in cold frames - growth stops but the Lophs will still produce the odd flower in January.
mutant Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) so I did several shit for/with/to my cacti today, some of them with the father, it seems he is learning stuff and we're getting more along, gardening-wise , he doesn't work nowm and he is bored I think and he loves plants, he had a little cacti collection many years ago and I think my mother made him throw it away, heheh.... some of my ancestors were growers of citrus sp (lemon. orange, etc) around here.. I learnt that recently. I am like: well why the fuck hadn't you tell me this earlier... Copiapoa sp, one of them pupped, and also got burnt , they're one of them rare , ultra-slow and shit, I will probably tranplant them next year. got them over 5+ years. for those growing slow growing species like aztekium, this extra rib in this specimen is all it did for me in 5+ years... It did nothing in a more sandy, free draining substrate, and I "grew" several of them slow growers in a medium of cacti substrate with lots of sand, perlite, pebbles and little soil and they did shit. I guess it has widenened up its width a bit, and all... several other species of either Turbinicarpus or other genuses can be as slow as fuck... I think its funny... I mean us being anxious to grow such species. Its a big joke. Gosh, I love cacti. Anyways , free fraining substrates with 80 % perlite might work in finland, but not here! biggy Astro ornatums, you should really say something about those fuckers, one is almost nude and now its time for the 2 stars these are the real deal lophos I like, not pupping like maniacs, these are of course at the level of 10-11 cm wide for the main head. I also have them for 5-6 years and they are definately not for sale AKA mine till death, mine or them! lol These are the things that did nothing while I had them in dud substrate, for some 2 years or more, until I changed them into more soil and shit... my beauties, spotted and bought in a regular nursary. and this is how they look next to some caespitosa one that snailed munched on Edited December 21, 2014 by mutant
mutant Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) I also transplanted rahli today, this is such a kind man, that after an arguement, he felt like sending some loph seeds, this is the only time I have done from seed to maturity, , actually the only lopho I have grown from seed, excepting some seedlings that grew by them selves in the pot of some of my older ones and I took 'em to grow on, one headers too! this is actually a more blue than purpled specimen , very pretty and unique compared to my other specimens. It also seems to be a one header.. it has been through fire and ice too... and then you got two l. diffusas - one has puppped and these are ferocacti and for a change !!!! we got their exact species and location and also ...cuttings to root , they have to monitored, GH and all Edited December 21, 2014 by mutant

mutant Posted December 28, 2014 hahaha incognito, I LOLed... psilothunderhorse, its just coming to have some cold here, meaning a day or two of frost? they say snow too... who knows... thats really cold here... I am not really wintering most of my plants, I got a small GH now... I have a nice 16 m^2 transparent cover in my roof now, though I still have plants that might get damaged our winter, and I am "wintering" some cacti outside, actually a great variety of them , besides succulents... and when I say outside, I mean in a higher elevation were I am and where my second GH is at. pasacanas and ferocacti , among others, it seems , are gonna be challenged by cold... oh what I did to my cacti.. I went and cut a 90 cm cutting from my biggest Yowie motherplant to sell to that enthousiast member of sab and when we say enthousiast, its the defination of an underestimation I spotted some terscheckis I had grown from seed and took them too... I mean I spotted tham among the pasacanas ;) not immediately distinctable
