big bang...a theory or horseshit?

Recommended Posts

If nothing travels faster than light for instance... how can we determine the size of the universe?

Call me crazy, but I'm actually sceptical that ANY supposed 'facts' we are fed regarding creation, the fabric of reality and the universe are based in truth...

well that's just it we cant determine the size of the zooniverse because of that exact quandary with the speed of light. The region visible from Earth (the observable universe) is a sphere with a radius of about 46 billion light years,[35] based on where the expansion of space has taken the most distant objects observed.

Is the universe not infinite in infinite dimensions???

Doesn't matter anyway because I am just using words which meanings were taught to me which have infinite interpretations ;)

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/astronomy/bigbang.html

the big bang isn't definite, but we can measure that something very close to our model happened. this isn't a positive assertion, but an interpretation of observable and measurable facts. theorizing what came before the big bang or what exists outside our viewable range is absurd, there is no way for us to quantify this so anything we say or discuss on the topic is redundant.

responsible choice, don't take peoples word for it, do some reading for yourself. go and take some measurements. if you can somehow demonstrate that our current model for physics is not based in truth, you will win a Nobel prize. i somehow doubt this will happen... because you used the word 'creation', read over this site http://wiki.ironchariots.org/index.php?title=Main_Page , creation is definitely not based in truth.

edit: just read this over again, responsible choice know that i don't think you believe in creation, but thought you might like to see some of the lies involved in the creation story :) .

Everyone knows we were sneezed into existence by the Great Green Arkleseizure - Beware the coming of the handkerchief!

I've come to believe that time is the finiky quantity causing all the troubles. If you pop into a different time frame you're looking at a whole new world, There's probably some relationship with good ol' Planck in there to stop the rather embarrassing collision that might occur if 2 different time frames tried to overlap. And a 'big bang' so to speak could easily be interpreted as such if you were watching all the time that's passed as a compressed stream that looks really fast from your point of view. Either that or it's not the time that's compressed, its the fact that you're elongated due to your extreme velocity though space compared to the bit you're trying to look at...

It's a winky wonky universe, and sometimes I think if you knew how it worked, it would lose it's charm.

If something did travel at the speed of light ie: light, then measuring the speed of light at that velocity will render more light traveling at the speed of light... this could be reapeated many times over indicating to stupid me that actual speed of light could be an infinte to quantize.

Space-time is expanding and objects on the outer edge of the visible universe are reaching the speed of light (travelling in opposite directions) and disappearing from sight because the light cannot catch up to the speed the universes are moving away from each other. The universes are not moving at the speed of light but the space between them is simply expanding at such a rate that the distance is getting larger at a rate faster than the speed of light. The further an object is away from you, the more space-time in between the two objects, the more expansion, the more relative speed away from each other until it becomes faster than the speed of light, and they vanish from each other's view.

The theory is based on much observation and is easily the most plausible. But it could be wrong, and if new evidence or a better theory emerges then people and scientists should be willing to at least consider the new theory with an open, unbiased mind.

It seems pretty water-tight so far.

Think about fungi and mushroom cultivation. Germination of a spore on Agar = Big Bang. Arent we all large talking fungi of some sort?

I sometimes ponder the idea that planets, stars and other space shit is just a scale above our sub atomic degree of knolledge and wonder if earth is observed by other sentient beings a a sub atomic particle... perhaps were not the only ones studing protons n neutrinos if ya get my drift... maybe out there some einstin is cracking our solar code....and maybe that continues in an infinite manner also. But remember guys im stupid.

I think it's pretty clear that the 4 dimensions of space and time that we experience orignated from a very small and dense "point". This can be discerned by measuring the temperature of the cosmic microwave background, the relative Doppler shift of bodies in the universe and working out how long the universe must have been expanding for for these observations to make sense. But as far as where the material for the Big Bang came from, whether or not there are other universes and why life should be a product of an expanding ball of space-time, these are wide open questions that we should all ponder!

Can we prove that space is not an incredibly complex 2-d surface?

If we could prove that space was 2d, then we would have a complete theory of quantum gravity. See Smolin

except america we're triple D baby DO IT BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGG lol

im just kidding

I haven't read all the posts yet but I think of the big bang theory as the lazy way out...

I really think we had to avoid thinking about something, in order to come up with that theory

but I just can't put a finger on it... hrm well after thinking a bit I think the big bang theory

is a decent starting point and probably wasnt intended to be more than that at first

maybe light only travels because of our perception of space, and fits conveniently into

our mathematical concepts cause our dna built it eh.... thus deeming superposition

an (third eye) optical illusion... eh pretty much all crazy science has to be dumbed down

to some extent so that the average joe can comprehend it, and the preacher man is

entitled to his opinions.... but its funny to hear like country ass people debating the economy

and world affairs, and especilly stuff like creation of the universe.... laff (I mean like ppl here

in Texas not anyone on the net eh)

yeah big bang? could have just as easily been a big bang that destroyed all the evidence

of what we coulda known... or even a series of big bangs... maybe life goes back and

forth through dimensions by way of banging? i mean theres just so many variables

Whats in the mind is whats on the outside... this pretty much indicates a vast variety of dimentions.
