Looking for Nymphaea caerulea - blue lotus(seed preferably)

Recommended Posts

Title says it all really, I'm kind of desperate to find seed of blue lotus to grow, it's way to expensive to buy in quantity in NZ and it might help save my marriage . . .

Happy to pay a reasonable price for some seed, or trade for some enthno/medical herb seeds, or heirloom corn or bean seed.

Can anyone help me out?

I have a decent quantity of Nelumbo nucifera seeds if they are of use to you. I think the ones I have are blue but they're only newly bought and I've never had them flower, could be pink or white too. If you're interested, PM me roughly how many you're after with your address, if you take less than half my stash you can have 'em.

You really don't need that many seeds though. I've never grown Nymphaea spp but you usually don't want to plant more than one Nelumbo seed for every 1-2m^2 of pond. I have 3 planted in a ~100L vessel that's around 1m diameter at the top and they're competing to the point where I'll have no choice but to yank 2 out so they don't all die although this is a much warmer part of the world...

The maf web site tells me that both are approved imports as seed though. So you could always just import your own (http://herbalistics.com.au/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=228 $4 for 50+, http://www.rarexoticseeds.com/en/nymphaea-caerulea-seeds-blue-lotus.html $19 for 500, http://www.ebay.com/itm/500-Nymphaea-Caerulea-SACRED-WATERLILY-SEEDS-Blue-Lotus-/140951776296 $15 or so for 500 from ebay with shipping)?
