Help me save my Khat plant!

Recommended Posts

I was brush cutting and got distracted and chopped the plant at the base completely. Ive placed it in water and then I was going to add it to some propagation mix (well my wife was actually) - think it will be ok? Will it shoot roots in the water?

Is it a big plant?

No experience here... but it's it's fairly small you should be able to root it out again?

Oops that has got to suck

Khat are hard to root if it is small I would recut it , dip it in rooting powder and plant in propagating mix. Because of the lenght of time they can take to root I would also put it in humdity.

I would also clean around the stump as it could send out suckers from the stump itself or from the roots. I would also give it a feed of seasol

Cheers

hi!

the plant will re shoot from the base, so no problem.

the parts you chopped off, cut in 3 node lengh's, remove 70% of the leaves, dip in hormone, place into a soft drink bottle glass house. but it's too late in the season to strike without bottom heat.

hello i don't know what a khat is but i might be able to help just dip it to some rooting powder (it's said) and maybe mist it to prevent too much water loss, otherwise, i doubt it'll root. maybe cover it cellophane and mist it? i don't know if shrooms or fungi ill grow there though

I have had most success with rooting Khat over winter, so your timing couldn't be better. Keep damp over winter and so long as it keeps its leaves on don't move it or check for roots until spring.

I reckon the mother plant will reshoot from the base, it seems like they evolved to handle grazing animals.
