non opioid pharmaceutical pain killers.

Recommended Posts

As your probably familiarized by now it will be a short time before I am admitted into rehab.

During your stay at rehab no opioid medication is allowed.

This could be a problem as I suffer with cronic back pain from time to time...

And I'm sure during my stay it will flare up.

So I've been doing some research on non opioid pain relief to no avail. Thought maybe tramadol but it turns out that is is a mild opioid and ssri so probably no good.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a pharmaceutical med/drug that would relieve intence pain.

Again guys this is legit pharmaceutical products that can be prescribed by a doctor/gp.

No black magic or shaman cures will be tolerated in rehab either.

Any recommendations welcomed.

And I know I should be talking to my dr not the computer but just looking for heads up so I don't go to see my nice dr without a clue.

Will be getting x ray to find out exactly what the problem is.

Thank you.

Wert

Im not sure what type of back pain you have wert.

The only non opioid medication that gives me some kind of pain relief at the moment is celebex with panadol. This has worked somewhat for inflammation after back surgery.

Before i had surgery i was on regular lyrica for a prolapsed disc. This medication did wonders for nerve pain running down my lower back and leg.

Im not sure if this helps, im just chatting to my computer ;-)

Please don't take this the wrong way Wert, and of course I am not a doctor or anything, but you sound like you're on a shitload of pharma meds.

I can't help but think this is part of the problem.

Pharmaceutical meds are notorious, as is western 'modern medicine, for treating symptoms as if they are the cause.

The pain is not the cause; not your back, your mind or your heart. Something else is causing it, that more than likely won't be helped by liver-toxic pharmaceutical, never-get-off-and-only-increase-your-dose, dependancy-creating meds. They want your money, not you healthy mate.

Again I apologies if you find this offensive, and of course I have no idea of your pre-existing ailments, which may or may not have their roots in physical trauma.

I really want to see you posting up how you are progressing, but all I seem to see is your requests and receipt of more drugs. Someone out there you're seeing should surely be working to get you away from that poison imo that's all.

Good luck mate.

RC I found that a respectable way of getting your point across. No offense taken what so ever and I kind of agree with you.

But... if I go off antipsychotics I go a bit crazy, not normal crazy. Crazy crazy like paranoid delusional crazy.

The anti depressant I was placed on after we had our second child, I developed servere post natal depression and couldn't go near her.

The benzos im on are to aid the abstinence of alcohol.

I suffer from high blood pressure and hypertension. .. runs in the family.

After my mother passed away I was very phyisicaly nutty and the doc I saw at the time x ray my heart and diagnosed me with stress related hypertension (put me on valium for a couple of weeks) that was years ago.

Though he did point out at that time there was something going on with my back and said we'll worry about that down the track. Not sure what it was but I could see it plain as day on the x ray.

He gave me a peice of paper with stretching exercises to do but I was that drug fucked n drinking I just threw it out. But this back pain comes and goes. Haven't got the best posture in the world and sleep in awkward possitions sometimes then all of a sudden the pain is back. It can also correlate with pain in my chest part of my rib cage so don't know wtfs going on.

Going to doc to get referal to radiology, have another appointment with doc on wed so will know exactly whats up with my back.

And I'm only doing all this research atm because of the strict guidelines re: meds in rehab.

Cheers guys.

Wert.

Hey Wert,

I rolled a 12T truck and trailer back in 2006. Wasn't much fun to say the least.

Walked away from it (don't know how) but muscle pain in back and neck was a never ending nightmare, reoccurring for years. Still has its moments.

Anti inflam and other stuff took the edge off but found the most effective was routinely doing squats and other compound exercises. definitely better when lift regularly.

Sounds like some fitness bullshit but i guess it built up the other muscles around the damaged ones. Ask your doc before you go deadlifting the shit out of your pot plant collection.

Theres my two bob.

Wert,

I have back pain from an injury that appears in similar situations, sleeping in awkward positions, even just on my side will set it off.

It also left me with dodgy posture, so even standing or sitting for a while locked it up.

Celebrex and nurofen or panadol helps once its aggravated, but the only thing thats actually improved the state of my back has been yoga and pilates. Like SJack said, strengthening everything around that core area takes all the pressure off.

I never went to classes when I started either, just youtubed pilates for back pain. It made a huge difference for me after no time at all.

Hope you find something that helps mate.

ketamine comes in lozenge form for pain relief I think. And maybe even patches for slow release from memory. They have it in ambulances now I am led to believe for quick relief in emergency situations. It also improves mood after the fact and can have residual longer term benefits. Oh, and it's nice too. :P. Also not that addictive if at all.

Amitriptyline?

Pregabalin?

Baclofen?

Baclofen is a derivative of gamma-aminobutryic acid (GABA) and is believed to inhibit mono and polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal level. Treatment with baclofen was compared to placebo in a double blind, randomized study of 200 patients with acute low back pain. Patients with initially severe discomfort were found to benefit from baclofen, 30- to 80-mg daily, on days four and ten of follow up. Forty-nine percent of treatment patients complained of sleepiness, 38% of nausea, and 17% discontinued treatment.

Be careful, the withdrawal syndrome is nasty.

Duloxetine?

Yeah that sounds nasty as it's a mandatory requirement to participate in the programs schedules and undertake involvement in activitys/duties as specified.

I don't know what they are exactly but along the lines of if your a chef you work in the kitchen, if your a toolman you work in the garden... if your an unemployed alcoholic that loves to trip out on shit then I might be cleaning the shitters???

Ftr!

I'm a tradie I'll end up in the garden or fixing broken stuff... I fuckin hope cause I'm pretty useless at anything else apart from cooking 2 min noodles in d microwave, making a mess in the toilet and self medicating... witch apparently I'm not that good at either thats why I'm headed to rehab?
