Cactus rescue and bunnings find

Question

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone had any idea what this is?

I rescued it from my parents yard where it had been sat over in a dark corner for a number of years.

Not the most healthy looking plant but I figure if it survived all those years (I'm talking close to 10!) in that dark corner it must be pretty hardy!

Also, I trimmed a lot of spines off it before I moved it, some about 2 inches long.

Also,

I found this at bunnings.

It was labeled as a trichocereus peruvianus (peruvian torch) but it looks a lot different to my other peruvians, especially the big furry areoles.

Thanks in advance for any help!

First one is interesting. Could it be something along the lines of taquimbalensis?

I am happy for you to send it to me to love and care for and I'll report back to you when it has fresh growth. ;)

This is probably a Stetsonia coryne. It has the spines clipped, why it doesn´t look so typical. But I am pretty optimistic it will regrow some if you treat it nicely! ;)

Thanks Micoz!

They do look very similar don't they.

I'll gladly lock that one in, much better than I'd hoped for.

And sorry Zed, hah, I don't think he's well enough to travel.

Thanks Evil Genius, that'd what I thought but like to get a second opinion.

Well, I've repotted the poor thing and put it in a better spot.

Hopefully he gets better soon!

Thanks everyone!

The left is Trichocereus Peruvianus apparently, the right is Mystillocactus Geometrizans.

Psyentist

1st one is trichocereus taquimbalensis var wilkae (the nicest form) and definately NOT a Stetsonia

(just make sure its still alive!)

2nd one is probably trichocereus terscheckii

ebene, I doubt the left one is t.peruvianus... its something else

He did survive!

With a nice sunny new home and a bit of tender loving care he seems to have recovered quite well. Even started putting on some new growth now that spring has sprung.

Here's some pics...

You still think it's a taquimbalensis mutant? I wouldn't have a clue. Looks like he should be quite handsome when he's older though either way.

Also, speaking of handsome, the terschekii is perking up a bit too!

And yeah, Ebene.

I couldn't say what that first one is, still quite small to tell.

I wouldn't think peruvianus though.

Thanks mate, I try my best to give my babies nice clay homes. It's just not possible sometimes though.

And cheers for the id, that is what I'm hoping for obviously but I don't think I'll be able to confirm it for a year or two yet.

Also, I've have a few nice blue peru's. The three you see in that last photo are, left to right, grown from pachanoi seed off eBay (eBay pach), Len and Trent.

Then there's this lot...

Back row, left to right, icaro, jac001, another Trent, David and what was given to me as a macrogonus.

David is my bluest. At night in the torchlight he's as blue as my pilosocereus pachycladus!
