etherealdrifter Posted June 18, 2015 ingog the lill fella is pretty deceptive. I saw niggles yesrday and the lill wombat was slowly moving around on the couch- until all of a sudden he hit turbo and began drying to burrow down into my balls or trying to scurry around the back of my trackies. It's absolutely amazing to see one up close. We fed him some carrot like he was a wee little baby. crazy how their feet look like paddles with claws.
niggles Posted June 18, 2015 wombat baby season can be anytime as far as i know - although right about now there are lots of babies between 4-10 months old turning up orphaned. he has not been particularly destructive, but he is usually supervised when not in the wombat safe areas. he loves to chew powercords and there are little chunks out of my laptop casing, but i dont mind if he chews it so long as hes not hurting himself - otherwise I Would keep it away from him. I have known someone who cared for wombats who had to steel plate the bottom of their door because the wombats would dig a hole through the wood to get inside. they would totally destroy your house if you let them have the run of the place I think. they love to dig and battle obstacles.. so they would reach a wall and try and get through it. the chew on anything interesting. .. so yeah.. destructive I think is probably accurate. but they are lovely about it.. just being a wombat! it would be illegal to keep a wombat as a pet - however I am hoping that i will soon be able to get some land in wombat territory and set it up as a bit of a sanctuary so i can have wombat friends to enjoy observing their lives.

niggles Posted September 1, 2015 So we visited little nigel last week. Hes on to nearly 9kgs and much more independent, nearly off the milk, but still loves human cuddles. He's a loner wombat though and doesnt appreciate other wombat company other than to bite them on the bum... but thats normal for wombats. The little wombats (there are 7 wombats in care on the property) have been growing up together so they get along with each other and will have buddys when they are released. Heres some nigel photos... and some baby wombat photos..
