Trichocereus ID Please

Question

Hi all,

I'm after some opinions on this beautiful specimen. I bought it last December from a lovely young couple in Canberra who informed me that the plant was already there when they bought the house. It was about 12 feet tall, with multiple columns, and had exploded through the pot that it was originally in. As much as I wanted to keep it in one piece it just wasn't feasible, so I chopped it into the largest logs I could safely transport. Here are some pics and more info:

Aereoles/ribs (lots of variability):

Rib count ranges from 6-9. Some of the main columns had shifted from 6 to 9 ribs almost instantaneously and seemingly at the same time, leading to there being upwards of 50 buds/flowers on a couple of them.

Flower hair is black for the most part. Here is a comparison shot with a flowering scop.

This beast obviously has good genes. Firstly, it came from an area that has a short growing season and regular frosts, yet it managed to grow into a monster. Secondly, aside from a couple little spots of black rot the cuttings are all healthy and have taken off. Thirdly, all of the cuttings and the base have pupped like machines (I'll get some more pics in a few days). And fourthly, the cuttings continued to flower for months. At one stage there were about 30 flowers in bloom in a small area (my little shed / drying room) and the smell was amazing. A few pics:

Basically I'm wondering:

1. What would you guys label this plant as?

2. Does anyone recognise it as a particular clone? I'm not fussed either way, but it would be handy when I start spreading some cuts around.

I have my own opinion on the ID, and I can think of one clone that I think looks similar, but I would like to hear from others first.

Thanks. Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Looks like a nice true pachanoi to me. I'd tag it as pachanoi and with the last name of the lovely people who were so gracious to gift this beauty to you

Wow, what a nice looking plant. Can't say much regarding a particular "clone," but I'd tag it T. pachanoi.

This is a great example of the amount of detail people should be putting in when asking for a Tricho ID. good work :)

Thanks for the input everyone. I also believe this to be a pachanoi, and the closest clone I have matched it to is Field's pachanoi (good spot interbeing). Problem is I have never seen that clone in real life so I can't be sure.

I'll probably wait till Spring to put some cuts up as they have all started to slow down now. However, I did manage to get a fruit on the scop with this plant as the father so I'll do a seed giveaway soon. This pach is probably one of the fattest and heaviest I have ever seen, and the scop is huge, so the offspring should be interesting.
