can you tell the difference? macros, Len,

Question

both of these came from trypsis probably 2008/2009.

the first came labelled Len, and the second simply macrogonus, i have named it trypsis macro.

i always thought they were very similar but i kept them seperate because they both came from the same seller with different IDs.

im not the best with IDs, other people see things i miss. im good with identifying others plants that i own myself but beyond that im usually not the greatest.

now i look at the photos i can maybe see some differences but i have spent many an hour looking at them in real life and find it very hard to tell the difference, maybe im just tripping.

so this is Len

and this is trypsis macrogonus

Maybe tripsis macro is seed grown from len seed?

Did you ask him if he remembers the origin of it? i think there was a bit of len seed around back then, cant remember if it was toby or incognito that distributed it.

Very nice plants Pinegap.

The Len's here seems to be less spikey than the Tripsis macros or any macros that are in this collection.

It appears the other way round with yours.

I find the Len's to be more Glaukus than the macros also - maybe it's just the growing conditions here that make it so.

If there is differences I can't see it, looks like the same plant to me apart from maybe the spine length ?

Very nice looking cacti, Len is a beauty : )

Here is my Len from a few angles. Cacus in my garden seem to like to grow long spines......

And I got the below one as a "Tripsis Peruvianus" but I think it looks very different to yours, Pinegap, and also I would say this one looks more like a macrogonus due to the denser spination and closer areoles. Thoughts?

I reckon your Tripsis looks a fair bit different to pinecapcontrol's but who knows could be an environmental thing.

If I had a tripsis I would post a pic to compare but anyhow here is some pics of my Len : )

I think the cacti in the OP look very similar... beautiful phenotype (not sure I would call it macro, but what the heck?)

zed, yr tripsis peruvianus looks like probably more like my los gentiles peruvianus..

Pinegap, I am pretty sure both were grown from Matucana seeds. Good eye. They are not the same but this is roughly the same type.
