Blood Type Diet

Recommended Posts

I recently read about blood type diets, you know, eating specific foods for your blood type, and I am wondering if any one here has tried it, or what are your thoughts on it.

I did do a wee bit of reading on it, and there are nay sayers, and yay sayers...in other words, some web sites say its good, and some say its crap.

All the foods i love and eat often, are listed as not suitable for my blood type...(this cant be right, lol) .

not a believer personally

i do believe we have evolved depending where your genetic heritage came from, as we evolved to eat those types of foods (eg aboriginal australians didnt evolve with alcohol enzymes in the liver the same way europeans did, as an example

well similarly some deal well with starchy carbs and gluten, some dont

what i do believe in, is eating whole foods

michael pollan, robb wolf, mike dolce are the people i listen to the most in respect to food

mike dolce has a great ideal, its called living lean, its basically, earth grown nutrients, eat every 2 to 4hrs, depending what you just did and what your about to do, eating till your satisfied not until your full, BOOM! checkout his podcasts, great inspiration and tips to keep you on track

@ blowng... your video is dead, lol. It sounds interesting though.

@ CT, thanks for your input, i will check out Mike Dolce's podcast, thanks.

I usually feel lethargic after eating, even if its just a salad. I guess i am just lazy, lol. I am looking for a diet to give me more life, and energy. I know juiced vegies will help, so i really should invest in a decent juicer (yes, i still haven't upgraded).

It would be great to go off to a retreat in the forest for 6 months, and have people make nutritious foods for me, and massage me, and i can bathe in hot springs, and just detox....and be lazy-er. :)

I have been trying to have a warm lemon drink in the morning, but it doesn't stack up next to coffee, lol.

Were always trying to improve our well being hey, so when i read about the blood group diet, i thought...hmm, maybe. *looks for next fad....

Not being too sure exactly on what constituted different blood types - I looked it up. Basically it's just where your antigens are. I can see no plausible reason to believe that the macro-diet would need to change to suit a blood-type (all other things equal). In saying that - there are possibly certain diseases with a higher rate of occurence with a certain blood type, and a diet might be affecting those diseases.

One of my biggest advices to feel woken up is to drink a lot of water (I think it helps the blood to become thinner, as I suspect it gets syrupy after a meal and that contributes to tiredness). If I eat a heavy meal, my eyes get sore and I will fall into a kind of food coma if there's nothing to stop me. If I have caffeine the effect is also magnified. But drinking enough water wakes me up and gives me a lot of energy. The other huge one is exercise - I keep some small hand-weights in my room, and whenever I'm drying off from a shower, or got a spare 30 seconds - I'll do some exercises (10 squats, bicep curls, or overhead press usually) - and that wakes me right up. It's even more reliable than the water. It also gives me an absolutely huge lift to my mood - and I just wish I was more consistent in exercising (how my subconscious manages to trick myself into not exercising I don't understand).

My absolute hugest tip of all - is to actually seek the hardest way in life. Deliberately avoiding the methods that lack a hard-work component - as they will usually leave you dissatisfied. I probably haven't phrased this quite the right way, but I fully believe it.

I understand that everyone gets lethargic after eating because the body concentrates energy on digesting the food you just ate. I imagine lighter and smaller meals would minimise the effect. Drinking water as suggested probably speeds up digestion too.

If i was in Mexico, i would fit right in, cause a siesta after a meal is the best thing, lol.

The blood type diet caught my attention as it says... "Type Os thrive on intense physical exercise and animal protein." ( i am blood type O by the way). I am a vegetarian, and most of my protein comes from dairy and eggs. The blood type diet also says... "Type Os should severely restrict the use of dairy products". So i was thinking i have it may have some merit?!. Plus my exercise consists of a 40 minute bush walk twice a day... far from intense, lol.

I was eating a small amount of fish occasionally up until about 18 months ago, and find my body still craves it (though i didn't feel any more energetic back then). I am not going to take up eating meat because of what some blood group diet says, but i thought there may be a connection.

I guess it is also to do with your frame of mind , you need to THINK HEALTHY / ALIVE / ENERGETIC to become healthy / alive / energetic.

Biggest thing for me is an alkaline diet low in preservatives.,

As soon as I start ingesting acidic food or drink my system goes haywire with the main thing being a reduction in how well my methadone and other drugs works plus stomach problems and an increase in anxiety and hyperactivity. The effects quick and powerful..

I dont mind the taste of an ice cold coke from a glass bottle but if I drink it Ill be paying for it within about 45mins and then for the next 36hrs or more.

On the flip side when my diet is nice and alkaline or Im consuming regular doses or Mylanta or something I feel so much better, my dose works a lot better and I feel clear headed and less anxious,

Similar things with the preservitives and food dyes, preserved tomatoes seem to be the worst of all things.. a pinch too much and they ruin me.

Didnt realise any of this until the last few years and by crikey what a difference its made to my life.
Its hard keeping from consuming things on the No No list though.Particularly the tomatoes because its used in everything and Im a tomato sauce fiend and always have been.

There's no scientific evidence to support blood-type diets, and even strong scientific arguments against the claims made by it.

These kinds of things simply seem like money-makers for their authors. I wouldn't be surprised to see a race-specific diet or an iris-color-specific diet next, and they'll probably sell equally as many books for their authors! ( hmmm, maybe I should get to writing... $$ $$)

All that aside, I do know someone who likes the blood-type diet and says it makes them feel good. Each to their own, especially if it makes them happy. While the premise of the blood-type diet might be flawed, whatever it proposes as a way to eat seems to work, for at least one.

I think Chief Wiggum said it best:
