Philocacti Posted May 20, 2015 This germinated from pachanoi seeds bag from Koehres. It's 6 years old and it's an extremely slow grower. What does it resemble? Cuz it sure doesn't look like a pachanoi to me. Thanks a lot in advance.

0 Evil Genius Posted May 20, 2015 Weird plant. Old spine growth looks very unlike most Trichos, apart from Cuzcoensis. And it doesn´t really look like a typical cuzcoensis either. I guess we should wait and see how it looks when it´s bigger, because right now I am not sure about it. Keep the dark gray old spine growth and the yellow new spine growth in mind because that´s something that very few Trichocereus have. Did you grow other Pachanois from this seed batch?
0 Philocacti Posted May 20, 2015 I have few, some resemble this one, some resemble peruvianus and some resemble pachanoi/scop I'll take pics of every group and post them. Köhres seeds are like a riddle Thanks a lot EG.
0 Evil Genius Posted May 20, 2015 Yeah I don´t know what it is with their seed but somehow, most plants I´ve seen so far ended up being something else. But yeah, I assume it´s really hard for them because they probably have to trust the knowledge of the collector. And most of them are by no means experienced with cacti. They just happen to have the opportunity to collect seed. I am faced with the same obstacles sometimes and I wouldnt be surprised if some of the seeds I gave away will turn out to be something else too. That´s why I am always interested to keep my name attached with the seed I give away. In most cases, you never know what you have unless you grow them.
0 ebene Posted May 21, 2015 Keep the dark gray old spine growth and the yellow new spine growth in mind because that´s something that very few Trichocereus have. Hmm? Do you mean to say old and new spines coming out of the same opening or just as to be found on the same plant?
0 Philocacti Posted May 21, 2015 He means on the same plant
0 zelly Posted May 21, 2015 what we have here is one picture of a trich grown in some pretty harsh conditions (given philo's location & growing situation), from which we're supposed to ascertain a specific species, when in reality dozens of pictures would be much more helpful. Not to mention the one pic has some pretty harsh lighting, and who can really say what color the older spines really are, other than philo himself. Grown under more favorable conditions would the spines be in better shape in coloration? Would the plant be growing any faster? Are better pictures taken in diffused / filtered sunlight? A different program to process the original picture? CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 75 imho phio's plant resembles a plant AZS has recently shared pictures with me of, BK08611.4, a pachanoi
0 M S Smith Posted May 21, 2015 I'm with zelly. This things needs to come back into some better health, but I suspect it's T. peruvianus. Others can debate "clone," blah blah blah. ~Michael~
0 Philocacti Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Zelly I'm using my Xperia z2 camera....no editing .... Probably should learn how. Mike, I grew it from seed...so it's not a clone.....at least yet. Once I take a cutting in will become a clone (with no name) I took some more pics in the shade, hope these would be better. These are all from the same seed lot. The one in the 1st pic This a similar one with the same color, texture and growth rate These have bigger spines, and they grow way faster These look more like what I think a pachanoi looks like (I shaded them with my body to get less light) Edited May 23, 2015 by Philocacti
0 Evil Genius Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Lol, all different plants. Last one is a Scop, third one is a Peru with a whole lot of Cuzco in it, And the first two are very weird. With this gray old spine growth, I don´t think it´s a Pachanoi. Yes, the plant in the first pics is a bit roughed up but the old spine growth is so untypical that I´d be surprised if it will turn into a Pachanoi. I know Pachs with yellow spines but their old spine growth usually doesn´t look like that. It´s possible that this is just environmental but the fact that there already are some cuzco genes in this batch makes it possible, those are natural Cuzco/Pach hybrids or something like that. The first two are totally weird plants. Btw, looking at those pics makes me feel like Köhres are mixing up their seed.
