Question

Hi! This is a great website and forum, thank you.

img1030small.jpg

I live in QLD, south east coast. These little fellows arrived in a unused garden bed after a few days of rain. The bed is broken soil with a layer of cow manure topped with cane mulch. Any ideas? The spore print was blackish. Caps about 20-25mm diameter.

Also, my cat (his name is mushroom jones) found this guest under my basil bush near the tap. Lightly manured garden bed with cane mulch topping also. Any ideas? It is about the height of a coffee cup, with the cap about the size of a cup also.

Thank you.

1st

Panaeolus sp

That second one...

Don't suppose it bruised blue? The colour from the photo isn't the same as a cube but it has the same sorta shape.

However it's much much more likely to be a Stopharia semiglobata

beautiful photos hav, welcome to the forum!

my opinions:

the first photo is possibly a variety of panaeolus cyanescens, I have come across similar specimens with redish stems in SE asia. below are some photos for comparison. note some have whitish stems, others have a redish tint.

the second photo is almost certainly psilocybe cubensis, unmistakable. but to make sure, take a spore sprint and check for the purple black colour, and pinch the stem and check for the blue oxidation reaction.

the first pic definately doesnt look like cyanescens to me, the shape and color look wrong even though the caps can change color the stems give them away. im with myco on the id of both

actually you can see the black spores still on the annulus on the second pic

I'm jumping on the bandwagon and saying 90% it's a cube.
