They will be able to survive that sort of temp if you can avoid getting their roots wet at these times. Keep them indoors for as long as you can so they can comfortably establish their swollen taproot then climatize them somewhere ideally away from the extremes of the weather, a green house is ideal.

Lots of drainage and a big pot is a must but you can afford to hold out a year or so after they are put outside, this way your not paying a fortune on materials for those that dislike your winter.

max my yopo tree is in the ground and is thriving at 2+ meters. Not long ago we had pounding rain for 3 days and winter temps have dipped below freezing. I've a P cartha in a 20 gallon pot & it sneers at anything winter temps here can throw at it. Its currently got a bunch of ripe berries and more flowers are blooming. It doesnt shed any leaves in the winter, even with a maximum nighttime low of 28F. pay for shipping & its yours. :)

the trees can take it, only worry is that they are fragile tiny seedlings. I never like doing them indoors for fear of rot/pathogens. they do die off soemtimes. if you can confidently avoid fungus, keep them indoors. others a coldframe or bright window might be better?

237 posts sounds like a nightmare to go undoing and deleting ..

but I've walked that path one or 2 times so know the score..

this forum is definitely a keeper as far as i could tell ....years in now..

while on the subject of editing posts and ruining threads ^^

message to new arrivals at this thread since the maxuality vanished:

so the initial op posted about yopo growing ... and the advice seems pretty cool
